Well, we’ve got another event in the books!  While Workshops did seem to dominate another event, this time around the victor is Scott Hughes, with his Mono Red Workshop build!  Congrats, Scott!

Full Metagame Breakdown:

Drains:

Slaverless Slaver: 1
Remora Gush: 1
Empty Gush: 1
Show & Oath: 2
U/B Tezzeret: 1
Snapcaster Control: 1
4 Color Control: 1
East Coast Wins: 1
Gro: 1

Shops:

Mono Red Workshops: 1
Espresso Stax: 7
Metalworker MUD: 2
Aggro MUD: 1

Bazaars:

3 Decks, 1 Box: 1
Iona Dredge: 1
Cagebreaker Dredge: 1

Null Rods:

Christmas Beatings: 2
SFM Noble Fish: 1
Noble Fish: 3
U/B Wizards: 1
U/W/B Wizards: 1
Mono White Abolisher Control: 1 (no Null Rods)
R/W SFM Aggro: 1
G/W Beats: 1
4 Color Beats: 1

Rituals:

TPS: 1

The most popular pillar at this event was the creature based Null Rod pillar.  Creatures felt like they were everywhere yesterday, with Magus of the Moon and Noble Hierarch being very popular choices amongst those decks.

Workshops, however, have been an increasing problem lately.  I believe this is the second NEV event in a row where Shop decks have outnumbered the power blue decks.  At a stunning seven copies, Espresso Stax was the most played deck.  Still, of the seven pilots, only two managed to make top eight.

Top 8 Pairings and Results:

Scott Hughes vs. Mickey Mahr – Hughes wins
Brian Reilly vs. Lance Ballester – Reilly wins
Rob Edwards vs. Shawn Griffiths – Edwards wins
Tom Dixon vs. Justin Kohler – Dixon wins

Top 4 Pairings and Results:

Tom Dixon vs. Rob Edwards – Dixon wins
Scott Hughes vs. Brian Reilly – Hughes wins

Finals:

Scott Hughes vs. Tom Dixon – Hughes wins

Congratulations to Scott Hughes, Tom Dixon, and all my top eight competitors!

9th Place Prize:

The 9th place prize was an oversized Mother’s Day card, signed by the top eight…

This is a real board state in a Vintage match...

What's the over/under on Paul's age right now?  Cause if it's 15, I'm taking the under.

Chris Hanson was a little excited to get his 9th place prize...

Nick Coss loves you

THIS MUCH!!!

In Conclusion:

It was a great event at Brothers Grim because of the people who were there.  Thank you to Gil, Frank, Steve, Joe and all the Brothers Grim staff.  Thank you to Nick Coss, dealer extraordinaire, who goes above and beyond in order to ensure that these events are successful.  I don’t know what I’d do without you.

And, mostly, thanks to you, the players.  You are what make this format great.

Brians deck is called "an original creation"? That list looks almost card for card like Joshes old NW gush deck.

Anyways this tournament was a ton of fun. From looking around seeing numerous rg beats mirrors to a koth deck, to just hanging out and chillin with everyone that comes to these things.

Congrats to the entire top 8.

Yeah, it wasn't original at all, which is why it was called 'An Original Creation'.

Many, many thanks to the Brothers Grim, Nick C., and of course Nick D. for running an awesome event. I was really glad I found a way to make it to LI. Big thanks to Justin for driving 10 hours.

I saw more Magus than I saw Drain, Confidant, and Snapcaster combined.

Vintage Rankings and the NEV Standings will be updated this week!  The Vintage Rankings will include NY NEV 3 and the most recent FoW Games event.

It was much appreciated that you guys took the drive out yesterday.  It was great to see all of you.  Thanks.

I am confused about how the Workshop decks are being tallied. The 6th place deck  called "Red Deck Wins" which is actually a Forgemaster MUD build does not seem to be represented.

Metalworker MUD: 2

Pretty sure Nick put it there as it runs four Metalworkers.

I am confused about how the Workshop decks are being tallied. The 6th place deck  called "Red Deck Wins" which is actually a Forgemaster MUD build does not seem to be represented.

It was listed as a Metalworker deck, of which there were two at the event.

There is a metagame breakdown that is done, in which I look over the lists for the defining characteristics of the list before I list the deck, in three words or less.  It is impossible to full characterize a deck with three words, so there may be differences of opinion regarding how a deck is defined.

The deck is named 'Red Deck Wins' because that's what Justin Kohler named it.  The deck name that the top eight pilots gave their decks is reflected in the listing of the top eight decklists.  Some are intended to be humorous, as this one was.

Tom Dixon, congrats!! This is like your fifteenth placing in recent weeks, nice work.
Also, that picture of Paul (including the caption) is simply hilarious

Tom's deck misses 2 cards. Trivia open!

Ah, damn.  I've been double checking them for a while, thought I'd gotten them all correct.

Samoht, if you could, please confirm that the two missing cards are:

1 Flusterstorm
1 Mana Drain

I won't be able to check the lists again until much, much later tonight.

You have both listed.

Should be 2 Island and 3 Tropical Island, not 1  and 2. Did I write it wrong? Ugh.
