Thanks to some eager new Vintage players, Fog of Dusk in Columbus, Ohio will host a $5, unlimited proxy tournament! This should be a great opportunity to learn the format, test a new deck, and make some new friends. Please invite friends an let everyone know. Midwest Vintage is growing, and this is the kind of grass-roots effort that will help!
Where Fog of Dusk 1057 Bethel Rd Columbus, OH 43220 (614) 900-1209
When Monday, September 10 7:30 p.m. start time
What $5 entry fee Unlimited proxies
I will post soon with more information about prizes.
About proxies Since there will be newer players, I highly recommend having the complete Oracle text written out neatly for any cards. Revised lands make this fairly easy since the printing is so light. We have several players who have been using printouts backed by cards in a sleeve. These look nice and work especially well if the entire deck is done this way (so that all cards have uniform thickness). If you have questions, let me know. I don't think anyone will be very picky, but good proxy habits are worth getting into.

I can't believe this is starting up literally on the same street I used to live on just two months ago. It's unreal that I move, and Magic store opens up down the block...
I hope you guys get things rolling. There are a ton of folks in that area who could be tapped into playing. Matt Kranstruber lives just down the street, and there are a bunch of guys who haven't played Vintage recently, like Justin Schisler or Joe Bushman, who might be wiling to show up if you send them info, but havne't played in a tourney in years...

I'm not exactly sure how all of this happened. Sam Krohlow (sillysam71) moved to Columbus and mentioned Fog of Dusk in his introductory post here. None of the older(?), other(?) Columbus Vintage players (Hazard, Theo or me) had even heard of the store. Apparently it opened in May. Sam and I met there and talked to some of the other players at the store, like Riley Curran (the guy who plays Elves! at a lot of the TSOs and Meandeck Opens), who were interested in playing Vintage. A few other people came in through other channels, like Jeremy and Beth Smith, who were pointed to us by Geoff Moes. Now we have an email list of 12 people, of which about half are at Fog of Dusk on Mondays. Do you have their contact information that you could PM me? Or would you be willing to point them here yourself? It would be awesome to get them involved as well.

I'll email you their contact info... Just make sure the place stays open so that when I visit in the holidays we can game.

I'll be up in Milwaukee for the weekend, but I shouldn't have a problem getting back in time.

We had 17 people! This was very exciting.
Charles Rolko finished 4-0 with MUD Nat Moes (me) finished 4-0 with Workshop Combo
... And I will find out who finished third and fourth.
This tournament has also been scheduled biweekly. Next event is Monday, Sept. 24. We'll start earlier next time, so try to be there by 7 p.m. sharp.
Thanks to everyone who came out. This was a ton of fun!
