TMDers:

I think it's fairly safe to assume that of all the current functioning Magic fora out there, we are the longest in the tooth when it come to time spent playing the game. However, I was wondering if anyone out there (perhaps even a lapsed user such as Zherbus or Crazy Carl) was actually at Gencon '93 when Magic was unleashed on the world? I'm doing some research on the history of the game for a writing project (previous articles by me here: http://bit.ly/nepJvP) and would love to interview anyone who got their hands on packs or even just witnessed the buzz around the game at that fateful event. If not you, then perhaps a friend who has long since stopped playing/posting - any lead gratefully received!

Similarly, on a related note, one person I am also trying to track down is Oscar Tan. I can't remember if he was ever actually a user on here (or indeed Beyond Dominia back in the day) but if anyone knows what he's up to these days (presumably busy being a lawyer in the Philippines?) or how to reach him, again I would be super grateful!

Cheers,

Titus

Oscar was a member of the old tmd boards, and bd, but I never saw him post after the crash. Maybe check with Pete from scg, out back track through the old paragon team members?

I would  love to hear what he is up to these days.as far as articles, reach, and meta game influence, he was the original Steve.

Thanks for the tip - and I will no doubt contact SCG. Just thought he might even be an occasional lurker on here - Vintage is a hard habit to kick! And yup, his dedication to writing about the format and the quality of his theorising was awesome - it's a shame to think that Vintage writing, however good, is reaching an increasingly tiny amount of players. Will let you know how my search goes! Smile

Jeff Annand (Samite Healer) is also a longtime GenCon'er, tho I don't know if he was at '93.

I would put the members of the forum at Mtglibrarities as the "longest in the tooth" since many of them, including Peter Adinson's dad, have been in the game since the very beginning.

Sadly gaining membership there has become a process in itself.
