March 23rd marks the first Vintage Event of Top Deck Games' 2013 Eternal Series; are you ready?

Where:
Top Deck Games
55 Haddon Ave (East Albertson Ave and Haddon Ave for your GPS)

We will be running a Vintage tournament for $2,000!

Registration starts at 11:00 am, Round 1 starts promptly at Noon (latecomers can be enrolled with a Round 1 loss)

Format: Vintage!  10 proxies will be allowed.

We will be running this with an appropriate number of Swiss rounds, with a cut to Top 8.  We use the play/draw rule in our Vintage tournaments, which means that the higher seeded player has the choice of whether to play or draw.

2nd: $360
3rd: $150
4th: $150
5th - 8th: $80

It probably won't matter, but if I ended up in top 32 and couldn't play in the event at the end of the year (due to not having cards for modern or legacy) could I vacate my spot for someone else if I chose to? Also, out of curiosity, I'm assuming modern and legacy events will be held on different Saturdays than the vintage events?

Any invites would pass down.  Say only 30 people of the top 32 show up.  #33 and #34 would be able to play.

Your new series is nuts. Its two of my three favorite formats, plus Legacy, for all of the monies forever. I'll be there. I hope turnout reflects how fucking awesome this series, the payout, and the endgame tournament is.

I'm really looking forward to this event. I'm hoping to go 2 for 2 in vintage and then use the credit to pick up some modern cards.

I'm in for this, I used credit from my last month 2nd place showing towards the purchase of a modern deck. Guess I need to get a burn legacy deck

I will be attending this. Only a few days to go! (Hopefully GP Pittsburgh does not affect attendance too much.)

Who/what deck won?

Martello and 5c chopped in the finals, with the win going to 5c.

Joe Brown and Rob Edwards.

I really wish I had been able to make it to this event, my Water Polo coach didn't tell me that I had to work on Saturday until Friday night and I couldn't find someone to work for me.

The top 8 was pretty diverse. There were four shops decks (all different varieties), two Landstill decks (UW and UR), a Baleful Strix control deck, and UW Bomberman.

I think the standings ended up like this:

1st Joe Brown with 5C Stax
2nd Rob Edwards with Martello Shops
(Joe & Rob split the finals)

3rd Justin Kohler with UW Bomberman
4th Mark Kinney with Grixis Baleful Strix Control

5th-8th (not sure of the exact order) were:
Myself with UR Landstill
Seth Zulinski with UW Manstill
Shawn Griffiths with Terra Nova
Chris Kelsey with Marinara Shops

It's a shame that more people weren't able to come out, but it was a fun event regardless!

Too many robots on the dance floor, there's (there's) too many robots on the dance floor.

Metamorph continues its reign of terror over me in top 8s. I'm pretty sure it's secretly the best mech.

Props:
Izzet Charm - I came up against this card in two different rounds. I won those, but it seemed legit anyway.
Elspeth, for letting me kill someone from 18 on t4 with Landstill. That was my favorite moment.
The 21/22 people that came to battle at a ridiculously prized event.

Slops:
Everyone that could have come and didn't. Did you read the prize support on this thing?
Metamorph, again. F*ck you, robot. F*ck you.
Mishra's Factory, because I always hate that card. It's a necessary evil, but a necessary evil is still evil.
Four robots hitting the top 8 when only like five robots were in the room. God damn. I thought blue was the best color in Vintage?
Josh Butker, for playing that terrible, terrible deck. Seriously man, should've Serum Powdered x5 g3.

Honorable Mention - Berserker Ghost. Jon, get on that shit.

See everyone at the next one of these, hopefully.

You guys got the point. Coss is awesome. Vintage is awesome. Come play Magic.

EDIT: I split with Joe in the finals and gave him the Eternal Series points. I know the matchup is in my favor, and I was the higher seed. But I'm not interested in other formats, the difference in 530 and 700 credit wasn't worth it, and I really wanted to get home.

I hope attendance picks up for the next one.  I really wanted to play yesterday, but some last-second work commitments came up.  It was good to stop by the store and see everyone, even if just briefly, and getting in some games of Magic was good fun... first time playing in 11 weeks or so.

If the next one is 4/20, I may have a scheduling conflict.  Some day, I will play again...

There was a lot more than 5 people on Shops, it was more like 10+.
