We will be running one event each month at Top Deck Games, and participating in these events will earn you points towards 1 and 2 round byes at the 2014 Winter Open (Top 4 overall points earners get 2 byes, and 5th-8th get 1 bye). Additionally, the eight players who have earned the most points over the course of 2014 will be invited to compete in a single-elimination 8-man event at the Winter Open where the winner takes home $500 in Top Deck Games store credit. How do you earn points? Simple, you win matches. Let's say you play in an event where you go 4-2 in the Swiss rounds, win in the Top 8, and lose in the Top 4. You would earn 12 points for your Swiss performance (3 points per win, 1 point per draw, and 0 points per loss) and an additional 3 points for winning in the Top 8, for a total of 15 points! Also, any events that Top Deck Games runs that is a "larger" event (the Summer Open, for example) will be a 2x multiplier! Here's to more Vintage; I'm certainly looking forward to seeing everyone in 2014!
The Fifth Event!
Date: Saturday, May 31st 2014 Location: Top Deck Games! Address: 55 Haddon Ave, Haddon Township, NJ 08108
Registration: 11:00 AM Play Begins: 12:00 PM Format: Vintage Entry Fee: $25 K-Value: 10-proxy unsanctioned REL: Competitive, decklists required and penalized for errors
We all know that many Magic players have some time management issues. To reward a random player who shows up early, at every Vintage event I run, if you register before 11:30, you will be entered into a drawing for a free booster pack! Who doesn't like free stuff?! Also, as always, we do allow late entries, but with a Round 1 loss.
Prizes! 1st: $400 Store Credit AND a free entry into the NYSE Open II coming up in a few weeks! 2nd: $200 Store Credit 3rd: $100 Store Credit 4th: $100 Store Credit 5th-8th: $50 Store Credit

Just to verify - this event is a NYSE open 2 qualifier for top finisher in addition to other prizes - correct?
I ask because post makes no mention of this, but title says "qualifier".
if true, this would pull me away from sanctioned vintage in Brooklyn, NY with lesser prizes (given the much shorter commute for myself and that they scheduled may 31st nearly a month ago) for the shot to win in at NYSE open 2 and generally better prize pool and community at Nick Coss party despite the longer commute.
thanks.

These events being posted 2 weeks prior to the event date does not help for people with busy schedules...js

thanks Nick D.
I'll definitely be going to this, barring any more carpool shenanigans.
though I gotta agree that late notice is not the best - especially when it's 5-6 hours' round trip for some. but with the incentives and prize pool, and that it's Nick Coss - it can be overlooked.

looks like Samoht's car might already be full. anyone passing through NY, that I could catch a ride with? I promise gas and toll $, as well as good personal hygiene and pleasant conversation.
fingers crossed as I usually get zero replies when I out the request ... please don't make me have to go play sanctioned vintage for a guru island when I could play proxies for NYSE q and better prizes!

Legacy at Blue Bell and Vintage at TDG on the same day... you're killing me, Smalls! Eh I've been running pretty good lately so Vintage it is! See everybody there! P.S. I will probably do a John's Roast Pork run the morning of. Do your research here then PM/text/Facebook/Twitter/carrier pigeon/smoke signal me your requests. (FWIW prices on the site are probably out-of-date, and I don't deal in jingles so I round up to the next dollar.)

Pretty sure I don't have family commitments on tournament day, for once, so I'll be there to keep the 1-2 drop bracket steady. Every team needs a punter, right?

Round one, game one, Greg Fenton beats me by keeping a mull to 3 with no lands or Mox.
Goes on to win the tournament.
Can't stop the beep beep boop.
Congrats, Greg!

I heard John Jones Top4d and that Brad Jarman made the finals. Who and what else rounded out the Top8?

'Twas a pretty miserable day for the hatebear squad. To wit: Loss 0-2 vs. Espresso (blown out) Loss 0-2 vs. Jace Control (blown out) Win 2-1 vs. Oath (...though I should have lost. The pilot, whose name I am withholding to save him further embarrassment , had me dead on board if he had tutored for the right card.) Win 2-0 vs. Affinity Shops (my only blowout on the day. Spirit of the Labyrinth and Skullclamp are not BFFs.) Loss 0-2 vs. Metalworker Shops (blown out). I lost Game 2 to a hardcast Blightsteel Colossus wearing boots. Yeah, it was that kind of day.

Rd 3 was me. No need to withhold my name. Wasn't thinking about my total board state and got Oath instead of Vault to go with the Key. Of course, you drew the perfect Aegis of the Gods to punish me for my misplay.

Congrats to the top 8 - especially Jarman, and Jones for cracking top four with the Last Minute Special. Hope revoke did something ever.
For what it's worth, totally nailed the 1-2 record. So I have that, at least.
Can't wait for the next one of these!
