Hello community, one of our own needs your help: [url https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/78s4/mariah-s-medical-fund/url]

Mariah's family and friends are uniting to raise money to help her with her medical battles from her accident on 5/29/14 - Thank you
On 5/29/14 my daughter Mariah was struck by a car while she walking from home after taking her year end Biology test. She was brought to the hospital with internal bleeding, multiple fractures, and needed immediate surgery. The surgeries on her back, spine, legs, and shin are going to be numerous, and her recovery is going to be even longer. It is unknown how long she is going to be in the hospital - but its going to be a very long time, and then require extensive post hospital therapy and treatment. Also this means we're going to have to re-engineer the house now to be accessible for her.

Because of this - the doctors have told us Mariah is NOT going to walk again

Right now what we know is she has:
- 2 broken legs
- 1 broken shin
- 2 broken vertebrae
- Internal bleeding that has been stabilized
- Massive spinal damage at the lower base

That is just what we know - there are still MANY unanswered questions.

Its tough to sit here and type this because Mariah has an amazing network of close friends that love her dearly and are equally as shocked by this news as her family is. The amount of support we have seen so far has literally shocked me.

Mariah is going to continue to live an amazing life, she is going to do all the things she wants in life, she is just going to do it differently now - we will work together, we will fight together, and we will not let the actions of one horrible careless person break us or bring us down. We are too strong for that and we are winners in the end.

If you ever have met Mariah, played Magic: the Gathering with her, or even met her once, you know what an awesome person she is. This is really just tearing me up inside. She's my little Panda.

We've had numerous inquiries about where people can help support or donate to help Mariah out - which is why this was created - so we could give this link out to people who ask how they can help or where to send support for this horrible tragedy.

Thank you , I may edit this a couple of more times because typing this with emotion isnt the best idea heh. Thanks everyone we love you all.

It's surprising that Hasbro's employees need to beg for proper healthcare treatment. One would expect them to give proper health insurance to their employees.

While the immediate medical bills may be covered by insurance, I would expect that the additional equipment and modifications required to make the house fully handicap accessible would not be.  Physical training and other treatment outside of the emergency would likely run out at some point.

If she is wheelchair bound for life, that would likely require a new van with a powered lifter along with a powered wheelchair.  Some of that might be covered, but I would expect that it would still have a significant impact.

Ideally they would catch the hit and run driver and take their assets in civil court but that is unlikely if they haven't found the culprit yet.

You're right. I'm not used to the at-fault system. If the driver was known, the damages would be paid by its insurance company, unless the liability limit is ridiculously low in Washington, some places are below than $50 000. Is she really out of luck with no indemnity fund or universal insurance for victims of hit and run?

It's scary to know that you're life can be screwed in a flash by a driver and that you're not covered at all even if insurance is mandatory.
