Tormenting Voice
1R
Sorcery
As an additional cost to cast Tormenting Voice, discard a card.

Draw two cards.

It's a kind of red Night's Whisper, although I could only think of Slaver decks really profiting from it.

Maybe this could make Rich Shay's Slaver lean more on red than black, which would be good for the mana base.

This card saw no play when it was named Wild Guess and it will see no play now.

Dangerous Wager does look worse and worse with every new red card printed though, huh?

Yeah, and the discard is part of the cost and that's bad as well. I believe Izzet Charm would be more useful for Slaver than this.

To be fair there's a huge difference between RR and 1R. This card is significantly better than Wild Guess.

Speaking of red spells with drawbacks, I think Gamble is severely underrated.

This card is better than Wild Guess for sure. Unfortunately, this has a significant disadvantage over Night's Whisper -- this doesn't actually net you any cards. Night's Whisper is great with Dack, because Dack lets you turn excess cards into the cards you need, while also being a discard outlet. This card, while certainly going in a better direction, isn't the card-advantage resource that Control Slaver needs to be effective. The fact that the discard is part of the cost is even worse -- your opponent's Mana Drain now gets even more value.

Dangerous Wager is better than this. Just play it as your last card in hand and it's discard 0, draw 2. This card is better than Wild guess, but still unplayable.

This in a madness shell?  You get to pick what's discarded.

I used to play See Beyond in Vintage a few years back. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. It was certainly useful to be able to reshuffle Tinker targets and Oath of Druids targets, alongside oddities like Gaea's Blessing and Dragon Breath. See Beyond being blue is a nice bonus, too.

I can potentially see how Tormenting Voice could be more useful than See Beyond in a deck based around Goblin Welder, but not being able to pitch it to Force of Will is somewhat of a downside. It's too bad that the discard portion is an "additional cost," otherwise an individual could cast it with no cards in their hand and just draw 2 cards with no downside.

I think that, currently, Night's Whisper is still more useful than either of these cards, though.

Judging from the fact that Wild Guess is out of use,if there're decks play Tormenting Voice, they probably...
1)can't play night whisper(no B or certain reason to save 2 life)
2)include R
3)don't play R mainly(Otherwise they would run Wild Guess already)
For example ANT and Mono Red Stax fulfill those conditions.

See Beyond is better because you draw first. If this was "draw 2, then discard 1" it would have been great.

But I don't see why you guys are comparing the playability of this with Wild Guess. This is clearly better, by a far margin, just by being splashable.

Now, I agree this isn't a draw engine like Night's Whisper and that Whisper makes Dack work better. I wouldn't call this playable too. I guess it stays in the same place as See Beyond and Perilous Research.
