This looks like something that should see play

Relevant targets it kills where the uncounterable clause matters includes Clique, Snapcaster, Monastery Master, Delver, Thalia (maybe), and I suspect a few hate bears that may come up like eidolon of Rhetoric.

I am guessing strictly sideboard, but this seems very relevant to me.

Being uncounterable is really nice, but I don't think it's enough to justify playing this over bolt unless bomberman is very played in your meta.

Sudden shock, despite costing 1 more, kills nearly all of those creatures (but eidolon) and others like confidant, drs or revoker, besides players and planeswalkers. An cannot be misdirected or answered (restoration angel, more instants to grow mentor over 4...)

But other cards like Electrickery have seen play, so I cannot dismiss completely this...

Other than possibly delver all the things this kills have already generated some effect when you use this. Monastery Mentor may not have, but they can cast an instant (even misstep this) to get a token. I don't see this being worth it.

I do not know what the meta will be, but I think this is more so a tool that players probably just want a playset of in their vintage collection than anything that will reshape the meta or anything like that.

Keep in mind merfolk was a deck once, could always come back and this is a great card to beat that. It also stops salvagers in a big way which is a good reason all the more to play it. Obviously as a color hoser it is going to wax and wane, but it already is a very good answer to problem cards that didn't have a good answer in red before. This is an absolute bang up option for Delver to beat salvagers with if they land a cavern.

That card is so narrow that even Misdirection sucks against it.

That card is so narrow that even if it Lols straight at Chalice, it actually does strictly nothing against Chalice decks.

Yeah, while I think this card is "playable," it is only in the same sense that Autumn's Veil is playable.  It's not hard to imagine scenarios where it is pretty boss, but it's like carbon nanotube narrow.

And, if we want to kill weenies like Mentor, Sudden Shock still gets the job done with less fuss than this does.

My rule for maindeck creature removal is that it must hit Lodestone. So this must be relegated to the SB.

At that point, I have to believe there are better SB options against Mentor. I don't exactly know what those options are yet though. Still looking.

This fits perfectly in painter tho. Name blue and you can even kill a lodestone under chalice.

Serra: good point!!!

The question in a Painter shell, then, is the marginal utility of the Nth Red Blast vs the first Volley both with and without Painter in play.

I do like your point about how Volley laughs at Chalice under Painter. That's pretty important I would think.
