With Waterbury being a week ago and Ray always encouraging everyone to post reports about how they did at his tourney, I've decided to say what the hell and post my experience. Anyways, heres the deck I wound up playing:

GAT, South-Central CT Style:

The Mana:
4 Underground Sea
3 Tropical Island
1 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Library of Alexandria
2 Island
3 Polluted Delta
2 Flooded Strand
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Sapphire

The Beats:
4 Quirion Dryad
2 Pyschatog

The Stuff that gets me to the Beats:
4 Accumulated Knowledge
4 Brainstorm
1 Ancestral Recall
2 Cunning Wish
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Time Walk
1 Regrowth
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Gush

The Disruption
4 Duress
2 Pernicious Deed
4 Force of Will
4 Counterspell
2 Stifle

The Sideboard:
1 Berserk
2 Coffin Purge
1 Annul
1 Hurkyl's Recall
2 Smother
1 Diabolic Edict
1 Blue Elemental Blast
2 Pernicious Deed
2 Ground Seal
2 Naturalize

Prelude to the Big Show:

So I wake up around 8am and decide to shower and head out to get some breakfast and then head to the tourney. So I get gas and stop off at Wendy's to pick up breakfast burgers. I go to open the door and go inside, and the door is locked. no one is at the drive through, so I look inside to see to employees sitting there and eating. I bang on the window and tell them to let me in and they say no and one flips me off. So I launch into a 10 minute description of they're family tree and probable sexual preference until I say to hell with it and decide to just go to Waturbury and get food there. The drive is uneventful, and I walk into the room where everyone is milling about, amazed at the turn out already an hour before the tourney is going to start. So I wander over to the venders to eye their wares and spend a minute talking to Jarad who was helping set-up and helping Ray run the show. My usual friends show up and I wind up changing my sideboard because Ben (the guy who took 2nd the last time with a similar deck) talked me into changing it. Whatever, lose the null rods I had in the board and put in Ground Seals, and hung out until it was time to play.

Round 1:
Me versus a guy playing 3 color Trix ( I think his name is Molo-det on this place, sorry if I'm wrong)

Game 1: I keep a hand with minimal card draw and a couple dryads. He winds up having more counters in hand than me and I fail to resolve either drayd. Then he gos AK into AK, then AK into double AK. WTF?! So I try and go for an AK for 5, and me mana drains it. Sad turn of events, but hes was drawing cards like a madman and I was pretty much boned at this point. He drops Illusions, casts Donate, which resolves. I pay for a couple turns and scoop when I draw nothing.

Boarding: -1 Gush, -1 Vampiric Tutor, +2 Naturalize

Game 2: Its just as bad as Game 1. I mainly remember having Will in hand all game and nothing useful in my yard.  Deed on board keeps him off my back until he casts Will, does crazy stuff, like Stroking himself for 8, and kills me with 3 cards left in deck. Fun start.
0-2, 0-1

Round 2:
Some guy with a TnT variant

Game 1: He resolves an early Juggenaut and rides it too victory. I attempt to do stuff, but he resolves Blood Moon, and I cry all the way to 0.

Boarding, -Stuff, + Naturalize and Deed.

Game 2: I play a fetchland and pass the turn. Hes goes land, Ruby, Lotus, Blood Moon. I brainstorm in response and peel a Force off the top. I force pitching counterspell, and he Red Blasts my force. WTF? Of course, I though my Force would resolve, so I fetch for a dual like a dumbass, instead of an Island. I die to Duplicant and Robo-Jens beats with 2 Cunning Wish in hand that could have easily gotten Blue Blast and saved me.
0-4, 0-2

Round 3
A really whiny, bitchy guy playing a Sneak attack deck.

Game 1: Sneak attack in T1. Welcome to the Loser's Lounge ladies and gents, where crazy stuff happens. I keep on multiple forces and a strip mine. I strip his land and go into a search for land for 4 turns. Meanwhile, he resolves 4 Orcish Lumberjacks and beats me down to 4. I top deck Lotus after couple turns and drop triple dryad, and then force his Living Wish. My army kills his army and I ride this crazy dryads to the win.

Boarding: I don't remember.

Game 2: He gets a Baloth in play. I get a turn 1 dryad which goes crazy and gets berserked for a fast win. Game ended around turn 6. The guy procedes to whine and bitch for 10 minutes about his luck and storms off. Whatever.
2-4, 1-2 I'm winning!

Round 4: Some guy with R/G Zoo.

Game 1: He drops an early double Hidden Gibbons along with a Rancored Mox Monkey and smashes my face old school. Damn, that sucked.

Boarding: - Gush and Vamp, and other stuff, + Deeds and Smothers.

Game 2: Turn 1 Dryad, turn 2 Deed, clear his board a couple turns laters and the dryad scores the KO.

Game 3: I have to deed several times and he lays in the beats with some rancored guys. He goes into top decking more while I finally dig up a Tog and start beating him down. He top decks his 4th Chain Lightning the turn before I kill him. Major misage.
3-6, 1-3

Round 5: A guy from mtgnews.com playing Parfait.

Game 1: I get a great start and beat him down with a pair of dryads that wind up becoming 6/6s. Turn before I kill him, he top decks a Balance, I've got no counters in hand. I lose land, my dryads, and all my cards. The game slows down and he eventually gets 2 Orim's Chant on a stick and a StP on a stick. He sits there and wonders why I have scooped yet and I tell him he'll see. Eventually I've got plenty of counters in hand and I draw into a deed. I counter both his Chants he attempts on my upkeep and his Abeyance. I then deed his board away, cast Tog and cast Time Walk. Next turn, I cast Yawg Will, go crazy and kill him with a berserked tog. Svg stuff.

Boarding: - Stuff, + Deeds and Naturalize.

Game 2:  I keep deedsing his board of his sticks and Moat, but he keeps resolving Replenish, making me scream. Eventually, I cast Will get a tog, Time Walk, make Mr. teeth big and make him go crazy for the win.

5-6, 2-3

Round 6: A guy playing B/G Nether Void.

Game 1: He rapes my hand of Ancestral and Will on turn 1, keeps my land down sinkholes and wastes, and Negator does the dirty work.

Boarding: - Stuff, + Deeds and Smothers.

Game 2: I strip his hand time and time again, counter and kill his threats, and eventually regrowth the Will he duressed out of my opening draw AGAIN, finally dig a Mr. Teeth and make him go crazy for the win.

Game 3: He duresses Will out of hand for the 3rd time (all 3 games I hand Ancestral and Will in my opening 7, and he cut my deck several times). We trade threats for a while and he rides a pair of Mishra's Factories to victory. Svg trades ensue after the match where I pick up a Masticore and other stuff while unloading my spare Chalices.

Round 7: Some guy that didn't show up.

I sit at my table waiting for him, decide to say to hell with it and start trading with people left and right, unloading Masticores and picking up various goodies that I needed. Good stuff. I then go up to Ray and drop from the last round so I can keep trading. I wind up trading with like another 20 people, discuss the impact of darksteel on magic, and throw together a Madness list with the help of some people so I can start testing it. Overall, a very good time indeed.

Afterglow analysis:

After 7 rounds of poor draws and watching opponents doing crazy stuff, I managed to draw a couple conclusions about my GAT deck.

No. 1: Counterspell belongs in the deck over Mana Drain. I'm well aware of the fact that the guy who won the tourney had drains in his deck, but there just aren't enough places to sink your mana from the drains. Maybe pre-restriction of Gush, Drain was fine to run, but now Counterspell in superior to Drain in GAT.

No. 2: Deed is a weapon of unbelieveable destruction. All day long, I was never unhappy to see a Deed. It takes care of every deck in the format when they have board advantage, and it sits there waiting to back you up when you're in control. I'd say a minimum of 1 main and 2 in the board are critical.

No. 3: Wendys is full poser bitches. I know this has nothing to do with my deck, but it has to be said. Screw those bastards.

Props:
Ray for having a kick ass tourney. Can't wait for the next one.

Tim for hooking me up with cards I needed for the tourney.

Jarad for hooking me up and being a good friend and playtesting partner.

Ben for helping me fix my board, even though I played against 0 Dragon and Tog decks all day in the Loser's Lounge.

The guys from Sam's Comics in Meriden, CT (Cheap advertisement), for helping me test.

Slops:

The whiny guy from round 3. Nobody likes a sore loser, and you're no exception.

Wendys's  for sucking major ass.

Actually the name is MolotDET but you can call me Mo.

And... the stroke was for 12 which could have been more but I only had 15 cards in my library and I was worried about you hitting me with Ancestral... lol

but thanks for the games

They were good games, but you dominated them the whole way through. I drew nothing and you combo'd out with ease. But it was still a good time nonetheless.

You have GOTTA love this game.

And yeh Deed is the SHIZZIT.  I say two main.  My friend plays GAT as his main deck and has 2 main 2 board.  Don't know how he finds room but it does SOOOOO well.  Knocks down my Sligh deck time and time again >Sad.  It gives him the edge over keeper and Stax.  Just amazing.  I want to add 4xStifle to my Sligh just because of deed.

Deed is my 2nd most hated card, right behind Chalice.  This is of course not because they are bad, but hurt my Sligh Wink.

I'm totally opposite about No. 1 than you.  If it ever was a time to run counterspell over drain, it was pre-restriction.  Pre-restriction ran Opt/Sleight of Hand instead of Accumulated Knowledge.  AK at least allows for a little sink.  Especially with deeds, drain gives the mana to activate...Anyway...

How were the duress's?  I failed to see them mentioned at all which makes me think they weren't the best.

Did you run Mana Drains or Counterspell?  Your list says counterspell, but I thought you mentioned Drain.

I can't say i agree with the decision to run counterspell over mana drain, but if you do decide to and have some drains up for trade let me know Smile
