Building a post restriction gauntlet

As anyone who’s been around for a while will remember I start a gauntlet thread every 4 to 5 months. The goal is to get good quality deck lists from every major archetype into one thread so that people have an easy way to see what’s out there and what they should test against. The other benefit is that it makes deck list requests unnecessary because people can get everything in one place. (of course since these decks are from places with different meta games then where you might live you are still advised to tune them rather than just jack them)

Anyway, I think enough time has passed since the restrictions and enough major events have now posted results and deck lists that a post restriction gauntlet can be built.

Decks that I think should be in the gauntlet.

Combo:
Dragon for sure.

Spoils mask because its out there and unique.

Some kind of storm/draw 7 based combo deck. This could be deathlong or neo academy or tps.

I’m not sure if rector based decks should be in here. I’ve said in other threads that I don’t really think these belong in today’s metagame, but some people may still play them… thoughts?

Agro control:

Fish. Should I use fish or gay ur or should they each get their own slot?

Suicide. Its not at its height now, but its budget and is somewhat common in many places.

GAT. Its been winning things these days and has been un underrated deck for a while, with renewed interest this will see more play.

Not sure if stacker should get a place here, since TNT will make the list. Do we need list for 2 separate artifact based aggro decks. They are quite different so it may be a good idea.

Agro:

Sligh There are a lot of new lists out there. Slith sligh, iso sligh, gobbo sligh, gobbo combo, old school ankh ect. I have no real idea which one is best or which to include. Any experts want to chime in here?

TNT this belongs in with no discussion. I think the trend is to more main deck disruption so I would probably use a build with pillars.

Madness

O Stompy

Those seem different enough to each be listed.

Control:

Tog. A tog list is needed, it seems like the trend is towards more mana denial so I might use one of the 3 colored lists to represent this. Do people have thoughts on which of these is best?

Slavery. It seems like drain slavery is putting up more consistent results than mean deck slavery (even though I really liked the article) but that’s just an impression I have without real number crunching yet. Again the question is both or just pick one.

Keeper. Some 4 color control deck not based on ISO should be included.

Chronic or some scepter based control should also be in.

Landstill. Last time around I decided to leave this out since it was still a fringe deck. It has now come into its own and is frequently played and produces results. Good job coming up with and promoting this deck guys!

I’ll have this up for a few days so we can figure out what archetypes should be in it then once that’s settled I’ll go find deck lists for them and open that for comment as well.

I took the liberty of editing your Gauntlet threat into a gauntlet thread Smile

On Sligh: Gobbo Sligh or Food Chain Gobbos are probably the best possibilities. I also think Patrick Fransen's Green LD is very viable in the control-filled meta. (with some adjustments ofcourse).

Gay/ r and Gay Fish are two different decks, and should be categorized as such.

I think Welder Mud Should be added to the list, It shows up often and it's going be showing up more after Darksteel anyways. Also, if you want a combo deck, you should post LongDeath.dec, it seems to have more positive results then TPS. As Sligh goes, you could try IsoSligh/Sligh with Sliths etc., both should be considered. For Goblins/Food Chains, its really up to you, I think Normal Goblins is better because it doesn't die to FoW. Stacker being included is completely up to you, It might be good idea Post-DarkSteel however. U/r Fish and Mono-Blue Fish should be considered as different decks, but maybe Landstill has made one of those decks unneeded?

I see slavery, but with these new cards continously popping up, I am wondeirng why there is a lack of Stax, and in aggro a lack of stacker.. Also, I expect to see hurkyl/retract abuse storm more then a draw 7 engine.. or perhaps a mix of both.
