Trinishpere and Chalice

If I play Trinisphere and I Chalice for three, does that mean all spells that cost three or less are countered or does Trinisphere act more like Sphere of Resistance where the mana cost is just simply added on like a static ability?

Chalice for 3 only stops spells with a converted mana cost of three--ie ones where the mana symbols on the card actually add up to three. Trinisphere works like Sphere of Resistance, making certain spells cost more to play, but not raising their actual converted mana cost.
