Hi,

I just wanted to get people's opinion on what is better in the current meta-game 2xPlanar Void or 2xTormod's Crypt in the sideboard, i'm already playing 3xWithered Wretch in the MD.

Thanks.

You need to specify what deck we're talking about. I assume some kind of Sui/Chalice Black/Void build, but you don't say. Also, not enough discussion for this forum. Moved.

Sorry, it was just a general question.

I'm not playing sui or void.  I'm trying to build a black land destruction deck using Sinkhole/Rancid Earth/Braids.  It's a deck I use to play but I tore it apart and now i'm trying to build it again and updating it.

Here's my current decklist (Braids land destruction):

Creatures (12):
3xPhyrexian Scuta (I'll explain this later.)
3xBraids
3xHypnotic Specter (might switch for something else to improve mana curve)
3xWithered Wretch

Land Destruction (7):
4xSinkhole
3xRancid Earth

Hand Disruption (8):
4xDuress
4xHymn to Tourach

Other Spells (5):
2xPowder Keg/2xNull Rod (a group of my friends have power but another group doesn't so I switch depending who I play, for tournaments I'll proabably play Rods)
1xDemonic Tutor
1xDemonic Consultation
1xYawgmoth's Will

Mana (28):
4xDark Ritual
1xLotus Pedal
1xMana Vault
1xSol Ring
1xStrip Mine
4xWasteland
16xSwamp

Current Sideboard (15):
3xPhyrexian War Beast (I don't have Masticores, might cut all together since the only reason I would use them are against Keeper)
1xPowder Keg/1xNull Rod
3xDystopia
3xContagion
3xDiabolic Edict
2xPlanar Void

As you can see this is a budget deck, I don't have moxes or Black Lotus, I don't even have Pernacious Deeds.

First off, you guys are probably saying, "What?  No one plays with Phyrexian Scuta anymore."  But I think in this deck it's a better choice over Phyrexian Negator because I'm playing Braids so I can't afford to lose permanents to the Negator, plus aggro is starting to make a showing again in T1 and Scuta is a lot better against aggro than Negator.  However, using Scuta really destroys my mana curve, that's why I have a Mana Vault and a Lotus Pedal in there, to help cast Braids and Scuta, and if I use Vault to cast Braids I can sack it to Braids next turn.  To help the mana curve I might take out Hypnotic Specter for another lower cast cost creature, if someone have any ideas let me know.  I have Nantuko Shades but I think it's too mana intensive to be much of a use in this deck.

Well, the premise of this deck is pretty simple, using land destruction to slow your opponent down and beat him/her with your creatures.  Braids is key in this deck acting as additional land destruction to keep the pressure on and sometimes it even acts as creature kill if they have no more lands left.

I guess I should mention the original question I was asking, Planar Void or Tormod's Crypt in the sideboard?

Thanks.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I realize if I drop Null Rod down, it'll make my Sol Ring and Mana Vault useless but if I'm also able to stop the opponents moxes and Black Lotus I'm willing to make the sacrifice and I can always sac the ring and vault to Braids if they're useless.

Null Rod also kills your Crypts (but Planar Void kills your Will--six of one, half dozen of the other).  I'd go with Tormod's Crypt since Planar Void isn't terribly effective against Tog and some builds of Dragon.

Combine Tormod's Crypt with Coffin Purge. They have different cc's and Coffin Purge can work around Hurkyl's Recall, which is played by some Rector-Tendrils as a mana-accelerator/answer to possible Tormod's Crypts.

I think it really just depends on your preferences. I, as I am sure many other people, have had great success with crypt. It doesn't matter when you drop it, cause you will always remove their entire graveyard. Planar void on the other hand is dependent on how early you drop it. I've seen both work, but I believe that crypt would be more effective as a 2-of while planar void my require a 3-of for it to hit play turn 1-2-3. You are already packing 3x Wretch, which would be removing cards here and there. I think it depends on null rod, and whether or not you would be siding it out agianst those decks which you would be bringing in the graveyard hate for. If it is the case where you want null rod + graveyard hate, try out planar void. If you don't need the rod, try crypt. After a few runs of both, you'll find out which one you like best.
