Quote Gluttonous Zombie 4B Creature - Zombie Uncommon Fear (This creature can’t be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or black creatures.) Greed and gluttony led him to death. Now they are his greatest assets. 3/3 Thomas M. Baxa 151/350
So.....it's now official that "Fear" is a mechanic? Does that mean white gets "Doesn't tap to attack" ? Cards I find have decent potential : Voidmage yup Style points : Dragon Roost. Just like in WarcraftIII. Drafting and sealed with this set is gonna be nuts, I'll tell ya that. But I really don't see much that will have any constructed potential JP : Chain of Acid is 3G and a sorcery There go the dreams of a G/B Void deck. Dragon Roost!

I don't know about warcraft 3, didn't play it, but I remember that Dragon Roosts first appeared on warcraft 2;)
Let's face it, this set actually sucks and hasn't brought really nothing new to type 1. Other constructed formats, mainly standard, will get something to play with: grinning demon, exalted angel...
But I can't really see any decent card for type 1 other than the new fetchlands or wretched anurid, but otherwise... it was a big disapointment:(\n\n

I really think future sight is being over-estimated. It's pretty much Recycle's poor cousin, and we all know how much play that sees....

it is one cheaper tho, doesn't have the annoying 2 card skip your draw problem, and isn't in the crappiest color. Big improvement. Big.

The "skip a draw to generate an effect" cards are a big boon to enchantress. As worded on the spoiler, the cards generate replacement effects, so they combo with Sylvan Library to generate no drawback.
i.e, Words of Worship generates 15 life per turn. Strong.
Words of Waste means they discard 3 cards per turn. Strong.
Words of War means deal 6 damage to target creature or player every turn. Strong.
Words of Wilding puts lots of 2/2 creatures into play each turn. Sylvan Library + Words of Wilding = 3 free 2/2 creatures every turn. Makes Sacred Mesa look like crap.
Multiple Sylvan Libraries stack to generate this effect. I see the possibility of Enchantress moving into Tier 1, or at least improving greatly. Can you imagine 4 Sylvan Libraries + Words of Wilding? I combo kill you next turn...

"Kaboom!"?
Right.
I guess I'll just quit this ******* game again. More than anything else, having an Unglued name on a non-Unglued card undisputably proves that MtG has gone to hell and wants to stay there.
So what's next? "Yoink"? "Aaargh!"? "Assmaster"?

"no uncounterables"
this is half true, but check out the wording on the blue and red cycling cards. When you cycle them, you are not playing a spell, so they can't counter the effect with a 'counter target spell' card.

Quote Did anyone else notice that WotC should just admit they failed when they removed dual lands? As long as there are good cards from multiple colors that make good decks when placed together, people will use pain lands just as often as they used original duals. The new saclands actually prove their decision to remove duals was fully planned and correct - they would be too good in extended. The duals weren't removed because they're too good or because WotC wants less colors in decks (they've kept CoB and BoP for a -long- time), but because they are too rare and too costly for players outside US/Europe. (and WotC doesn't see any of the money). A dealer I know sold out all his duals at a PT in Japan for $25 a piece etc. Imagine you live in Asia and want to play in a 1.x PTQ. If you don't have internet or pay ridiculous amounts of money, you're screwed.

The Red and especially Green Words cards seem to have stupid interaction with Sylvan:
Words of Wilding 2G Enchantment R 1: The next time you would draw a card this turn, put a 2/2 green Bear creature token into play instead.
Words of War 2R Enchantment R 1: The next time you would draw a card this turn, Words of War deals 2 damage to target creature or player instead.
Maybe not specifically in Stompy, but a slightly higher cc deck could have a great midgame with those and Cursed Scroll.

What do you guys think of Blackmail in Suicide Black or Nether Void? It seems like really cheap land kill (early on) and it seems to be quite strong for the late game. It should also work well with Cabal Therapy and Duress.
Blackmail B Sorcery Uncommon Target player reveals three cards from his or her hand and you choose one of them. That player discards that card. Even the most virtuous person is only one secret away from being owned by the Cabal. Christopher Moeller 127/350

But what disruption would you take out to fit this in?
I do like that there are bacicly 4 Duress cards to choose from now, though (Duress, Unmask, Cabal Therapy, and this one)

This is a really good grandson of Duress. I think, for a discard deck, it might be the best one yet. For small hand sizes it is better then duress(gets any card, i.e. land). But you definatly have to point out when your hand size is small you usually have already played your land. It still is a 1 for 1 trade for a large portion on the hand. On the down side, if you force someone to discard a card they will always discard the worse card(exempt madness), so you are instead forceing them to discard their 3rd worst card. If their handside is say 5 then you are only not getting the top 2 cards in thier hand. Overall for type 2 this card is great for all the creatures in the enviroment. In type 1, I think it might just not make it. I don't think people really want to run 12 discard spells. But might be a real option sideboard card vs control.

First time posting here. I've lurked a ton so far, and have been bringing myself up to speed on the "new" T1. I'm an older T1 player with a decent rating (Top 25 in Ohio Vintage), and I've been playing "catch-up" on competitive play. So there's my intro. In any case, I've got a couple of pennies / thoughts to toss around on the new set: Quote Ebonblade Reaper 2B Creature - Cleric Rare Whenever Ebonblade Reaper attacks, you lose half your life, rounded up. Whenever Ebonblade Reaper deals combat damage to a player, that player loses half his or her life, rounded up. Morph 3BB (You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.) 1/1 Wayne England 141/350 Ignore the morph nonsense. Could be a contender for MD Suicide (or in side vs. control)? Turn one this guy, Turn two attack for 11, Turn three beats for 5, they're at 4, CoP be damned! I really don't know, I'm not a Suicide player, but this raised an eyebrow when I read it. Maybe Pox? I haven’t read/found a primer on Pox yet, so again, I can’t speak to its merits. Quote Headhunter 1B Creature - Cleric Uncommon Whenever Headhunter deals combat damage to a player, that player discards a card from his or her hand. Morph B (You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.) 1/1 Matt Cavotta 156/350 Ok, he's no Hypno. Ok he's not even close. But if you're really desperate... I guess I'd have to try him. Quote Words of Waste 2B Enchantment Rare 1: The next time you would draw a card this turn, each opponent discards a card from his or her hand instead. ?Terror corrupts order and paralyzes instinct.? -Volume III, The Book of Decay Jerry Tiritilli 182/350 This is interesting because it can cause a soft lock. I really have no idea what home this card would have in current decks, but it turns all your cantrips into discards. Quote Naturalize 1G Instant C Destroy target artifact or enchantment. ?From here, let the world be reborn.? Ron Spears 275/350 Hey now -- Disenchant for green? That's not too shabby. Could be sideboard in the right deck. Quote Enchantress’s Presence 2G Enchantment R Whenever you play an enchantment spell, draw a card. ?The wise learn from successes as well as mistakes.? Rebecca Guay 261/350 I think this is already being discussed in another post, but there's obviously some chance here in Enchantress. Quote Future Sight 2UUU Enchantment R Play with the top card of your library revealed. You may play the top card of your library as though it were in your hand. “My past holds only pain and loss. I will conquer it by creating the perfect future.” —Ixidor, reality sculptor Matt Cavotta 84/350 H-e-l-l-o. Aluren? Free toss bait for FoW or Mis-D? This thing has some definite testing required. Sure, it doesn't do anything by itself, and you're not presenting any surprises, but the ability to blow through your deck is no time is pretty amazing. Casting cost is scary, which is unfortunate, because I'd love to try this in Gro. Sinbad? Oh wait -- Petra Sphinx, right? Besides these, I'm really disappointed with the list. There's a couple of cards I plan on monkeying around with (Complicate), but there's not a whole lot of meat in this set. Tim

The ebonblade creature could go into the suicide. That was my first thought as well, but what would you take out? Negators? The reapers won't kill the opponent by themselves not to mention they make you lose A LOT of life.
Suicide has better choices and nothing to take out for these.
Other than the rare fetchlands, which I can see being played in type 1, the set was veryyyyyyyyy disappointing. It brings something for the other formats, but just some lands to our own...

The reaper has potential but is both flimsy and risky. If I played him, I would probably splash some burn too to finish the job. Headhunter is not a type one quality card. Naturalize is fine, and could replace emerald charm in sideboards. It is subtly one of the most important cards in the set. Words of waste is probably one of the worse words. As for future sight, it has engine potential, but I just wanted to point out that 'play as if was in hand' does not let you 'pitch' the top card, and that aluren is an impractical combination to go for.

H-e-l-l-o. Aluren? Free toss bait for FoW or Mis-D? Not quite. "Play as though it were in your hand" is not the same thing as actually being in your hand. "Play" is a general term that includes both playing a land and playing a spell. Pitching a card from your hand to FoW or Mind over Matter or whatnot is not included by the definition of this term. Its not a question about whether its better than Duress or Hymn, it is far from that. Its a question of whether its better than Unmask, which is normally the following choice after Duress/Hymn in Masknought. So yeah, its not needed in Void/Suicide.

I don't know if Naturalize will be used in Stompy. I mean, it already has stuff like Null Rod, Emerald Charm and Tranquil Domain. The green disenchant might just be overkill
as well, it's pretty hard for stompy to keep 2 mana open to play this spell.
We'll see, but yes, it is going to be definitely one of the more important spells in this set and probably a staple for Green for years to come.

I just want to clear this up: I think WotC made a mistake when it removed dual lands from the printing presses, not when they removed them from extended. I wrote an article a while back for Starcity essentially saying they needed to reprint them or ban them, but it had to be one or the other, and wouldn't you know they have an uncanny knack for doing the opposite of what I want. To be fair, I'm just one person, but it is surprising sometimes. The recent article about the new miner subtly addresses what I've been saying for years, that dumbing down the duals into painlands did NOTHING to alter their prevalence in constructed decks. The situation is the same, except now we have lands that hurt you both with damage and with horrible names. But enough about that. Yeah, yeah, I know, quit your complaining, nothing you can do . . . WotC will never . . . yeah, I've heard it all before.
I really like the new sac lands, I think they're going to be my favorite cards in the set. Yes, they're "broken" with duals, but IMO a little mana fixing never hurt anyone. Even without duals, I think they have the potential to be as good or better than a painland, especially with a new miner in the environment.
Ug, now I'm talking about Type2.
I just can't seem to keep this on topic to save my life, so I guess I better shut up.

Trade Secrets 1UU Sorcery R Target opponent draws two cards, then you draw up to four cards. That opponent may repeat this process as many times as he or she chooses.
after opponent draws 2, and you draw up to 4, then opponent chooses to continue this, would you draw 2, and they draw up to 4?
im confused about this card
