Hello Kind friends and users ...

After tediously testing my tendrils combo deck for around 3 hours or so with my fellow team goat members - I picked up my blue/red phid deck to test vs and realized something horribly wrong....

the win condition is horrificly slow.

Not to say morphling is a bad card - but in the colors blue and red - is there anything better?

I've tried urza rage and flaming gambit but both are situational and need mutiples to win - which isnt that much better than morph.

I use cunning wish - so if that helps the search by all means be my guest to give me some tech

and for all intensive purposes - I dont want to add a color - so please dont suggest tog or trenches - i know they rock peoples socks - but I wanna keep it u/r

thanks !

Have you tried Core?  At the very least it comes out a turn earlier and pings stuff.

I have tried core - but to no avail - the discarding of the card is just

and core is also a 4/4 which is a 5 turn clock which negates the fact it comes out a turn earlier and also have no evasion at all except that it can ping

I was thinking of adding hte grim monilth/power artifact combo - just for shits and giggles - w/ 3 cunning wish + brainstorms to search -

thoughts?

but you have no way to search the two parts of the combo (grim or power)?  Generic search such as brainstorm isnt really going to cut it to find two instances of 1 card.  Without access to black for demonic/vamp, you can't consistently grab the second piece of the combo.  Combine all that with having to now wish for stroke, that's much slower and  more easily disrupted than 4-5 turns of Morphling/Masticore beating.

I think that with the U/r version of phid, your whole game plan it to take control and then beat with Core/Morphling afterwards.  Trying to speed it up or go Agro-Control isn't going to work as you don't really have those types of threats available in a phid-based deck (of course you coult take out the phids and slow stuff and play Fish, but that's a different deck altogether).

Basically, trying to make the kill "faster" but retaining a Phid-like control skeleton will have two opposing strategies that will just make the deck weaker in general and dilute its focus

If you wanted to splash for white, Goblin Trenches is an option.

@ above post
"and for all intensive purposes - I dont want to add a color - so please dont suggest tog or trenches "

For possible kills, since the obvious has been ruled out, just some random suggestions.

Dibs, Waterspout Djinn, Steel Golem?

well, roche, i'm thinking you should just delete this topic since we both know your deck isn't typical u/r and you're not going to post a list.

not to sound condescending or anything but nobody's going to come up with anything we haven't thought of already... don't waste everyone's time.
