Psychogenic Probe
{2}
Artifact
Whenever a spell or ability causes a player to shuffle his or her library, Psychogenic Probe deals 2 damage to him or her.

Oddly enough, I could swear I read that K-Run submitted a similar mechanic for You Make the Card 2.

I'm thinking that enough shuffle effects see play today that this might be relevant.

It is also a huge nail in the coffin for Parfait. \n\n

But countering Mind's Desire is bad, right?  Or maybe abusing a 'tog deck with Sligh.  This one looks like fun.  Could be a nice answer to some combo decks.

Matt the Great: Second TMD member to make a card

(I'll give HengeWolf the first as he proposed Shards ages ago in one of his 10 page rants - only a mean and pedantic person would point out Wizards development period for cards and only an idiot would think they don't make last minute changes and additions)

I know at local tourneys I have been too they don't require people to shuffel for every copy of minds desire so do they take 2 for each copy or just 2 once? I would think it would be 2 for everytime but im not sure if Minds Desire got officially errated not to make you shuffle verytime.

It is general precedent to not shuffle for the resolution of the copies to save time.

This is not to say that you are not supposed to be shuffiling.  You can continue to play it out as if you aren't, but you are supposed to be shuffling so each resolution of Mind's Desire will trigger the Probe.

It's pretty good, a lot of things that make you shuffle, fetchlands, tutors, desire obviously, rector, and of course, you could always be amusing and run soldier of fortune.

I think there's also a Myr in this set that's a colorless SoF. The ability costs 2 colorless instead of R, but still, how funny will that be.

It's only an SoF for you.  Not quite as good.  2, tap: shuffle your library.

A few years ago, players were required to remove deck sleeves at the request of their opponents.  So Type 1 tournaments were screwed up when people would play Soldier of Fortune and require their opponent to remove the sleeves from his $2000 deck.  It ended in a lot of concessions, so an informal rule was made up that if a deck was already in a random state, you did not need to shuffle it.  So for Mind's Desire, you would take damage for each copy, even if you take the shortcut of not shuffling.
