Hi all. Untouchable Sports Collectables is now hosting Monday night sanctioned T1 tourneys beginning August 12th. Here are the details:
Start Time: 5:00pm
Format: T1, best 2/3, 4 x 45min rounds
Entry Fee: $5
Prizes: 1st is at least $30 in store credit, which is bankable. There are also prizes for 2nd, 3rd, 4th place.

they should make the entry fee $10 and at least $600 first b/c i will not drive an hour for what it is like now and i usually take 1-3 other people with me

I live 10 minutes away from there so I don't mind. It's only 30-40 for first place, but you can bank your store credit so its not too bad. Agreed though, I wouldn't drive an hour for what its like now.

I'll try to make it out to these tournies, although I would like to know a couple things.
How zealous are they about the start time? Hopefully they, like every other tournament, start late because getting there by 5 will be tough for me. 5:30 sure.
What's the metagame like? How many people generally show? How much power is floating around? Just curious.

Typically, you'll play against survival, suicide, sligh, combo, and a lot of random scrubiness. The environment is mildly powered. BTW, they are pretty vigilant about the start time. According to DCI rules, you can allow additional entrants to the tourney up to 10 minutes after start time. They play by the book there, so it'd be kinda risky showing up at 5:30, especially if its a long ride for you. |

How disturbing that they actually start at or close to the time they announce. It is going to be tough for me to get there that early, I'll see how it goes. Don't any of these people work?

I am always looking for a good Type I tourney in/around the GTA. Too bad the start time is 5pm, I work in Markham so unless they invent teleportation pretty soon I am SOL

It's up to the store staff to decide when the tournaments are. I will suggest that to the tournament coordinators but it seems they are set on Monday nights. That's the best I can do. BTW, I'm sure you can agree that you don't absolutely need power in order to play t1. |

I know power doesn't win a tournament or even a game from my experience but people with power like to show it off and with a power filled field it helps people know what to play examples would be: aura of silence, null rods, gorilla shaman, and all those little annoyences witch gives the non power player the advantage.
Side note for future tournaments: I don't work sunday so I can go and bring some friends

edit: I meant $60 not $600 Try e-mailing John (the Organizer) at john@untouchables.ca and let him know how many people you can bring, along with a suggestion of raising the entry fees. To those that would like to come and cannot make it due to the early start time, e-mail him as well and perhaps he can organize more frequent week-end T1s if the demand is there. The problem is that the room where the tournaments are played does not accomodate that many people, and they already have a full week-end schedule. There are, however, monthly T1 tournaments on held on Saturdays. The next one will be on August 24th, which is perfect if you can stay in town and go to the Hairy Tarantula tournament on the 25th the next day. Quote How zealous are they about the start time? The problem is that the store owners want the store to close at 9pm. This means that we could barely squeeze 4 rounds in if the tournament started after 5:30. |
