Straight out of the August 2002 issue of Sideboard Magazine:
"If you're a fan of Type 1, we have some great news for you. Beginning in 2003, the tenth anniversary of Magic, the DCI will host a Type 1 Championship at Origins. This event will probably be held on the Saturday of the convention and have a $10 entrance fee. The exact prizes are still to be determined, but will definitely be cool. Type 1 is too old-school to be a Pro Tour format, but now, Type 1 players will finally be able to find out who's the best."
Comments? I know I'll be there! ^^;

Maybe this will draw more Type One players to the event, but Origins hosts Type one events every year. So this is all and good, but I do not see how this has changed anything as far as Type One support. Oh well I am glad to have it and look forward to seeing what else Wizards can/will do for us Type One players.
Maybe they will have a full set of P9 cards for the top eight : ), that would fit this "The exact prizes are still to be determined, but will definitely be cool". Heck I'd be happy.
Over all though it seems they have just changed one of the side events held yearly and made it a "main" event, which is a good thing.
