Well, it was a pretty decent turn-out this week, it was looking like a 12 people at 6:55 when the three members of team Goat walk in.  With a last minute drop we end up with 14.  The torny goes 4 rounds of swiss with a cut to top 4.

The low light of this torny was someone making off with Mike R's Ancestral Recall.  The person who did this is the lowest form of human life.  Also, two tornys back someone stole an LoA from my binder, so I guess we must be more careful of who we let look at our stuff.  Gamemaster is such a nice place when random outsiders don't come and ruin it.

The decks present this time were:

Keeper(type) - Brian G.
Sui(type w/fleshreaver) - Mike R.
TurboNevyn - LordoftheGoats
Stasis(old school) - Scott S.
Blitzcreig - Mike B.
W/W - Joe S.
Keeper(type) - Evolved
Emerald Alice(w/ Oath sideboard) - Cardshark
Void - Cash money millionare
Squrrilcraft - Hackensack
Zoo(type) - Lord Lamneth
U/r Phiddian - Piggy
Diavanzo Purple(U/r Phid w/ prof bolt) - Ufactor
DETrix - Me (MolotDET)

This time my report actually includes me in the action.

Round 1 vrs Zoo (Lord Lamneth)
(Game 1)  We land go turn one and two but my first land is LoA.  In the next two turns I counter everything and draw lots of extra cards due to LoA, Ances and a gaggle of other drawing spells. Turn 5 I Illusions/Donate off mana drain mana and he can't pay the upkeep two turns later.
(Game 2)  I side in 3 Back to Basics removing Capsize, 1 Intuition and Mystical Tutor.  I think he sides in like 4 disenchant effects.  I counter quite a few things in the early game.  Which leaves me with just Illusions in hand.  I land draw for the next 6 turns.  While he is casting 2 or 3 Call of the Herd's and some other beatdown Creature.  My life goes 20, 15, 3, B O O H O O.
(Game 3)  I drop LoA First turn again, and draw quite a few extra cards by turn three, when I pick up BtB.  I wait, and am rewarded by him tapping out on his next turn.  I lay 4th turn BtB and am able to combo on turn 5 with all his mana tapped.
 games 2/1, rounds 1/0

Round 2 vrs Keeper (Brian R)  Brian had boasted in the last few days how he was going to come with a rogue Griffin deck and beat everyone, on this day however he borrowed the keeper that placed top2 last time.
(Game 1)  I drop Loa on fisrt turn again (boy am I starting to get used to this).  Over the first few turns I am winning the card drawing war.  I intuition on my turn and we counter war.  I let him win with no cards in hand and 3 mana coming from his drain.  I am left with Illusions, donate and Mana Drain in hand and two untapped Islands.  He draws into Morpling and casts right to my mana drain.  Next turn, my 5th, I combo and he scoops.
(Game 2)  I side in 3 BtB and 4 BlueEblast (proving once again that people do side BeB, haha @Goat)  we land go for a few turns, as I draw into AK#1 and Intuition.  On my turn 4 I Intu for the remaining AKs and take one into hand.  His fifth turn, he twists me for 6.  I respond by casting both AKs, drawing 7 cards and misd the twist to him, but he has no cards in hand.  I lay BtB on my next turn, and we draw go til I combo 5 turns later and he scoops.
 games 4/1, rounds 2/0

Round 3 vrs Diavanzo Purple (Ufactor)
(Game 1)  We counter war for the first three turns and I somehow get cards from both of our Ancestrals.  I combo on third turn, while he has 2 land in play and he scoops.
(Game 2)  I side in 3 cursed totems and 3 BtB.  I get LoA first turn again, and then second turn cursed totem.  Third turn I win a counterwar over BtB., and am able to combo on 4th. to which there is a resounding, SCOOP.
 games 6/1, rounds 3/0

Round 4 vrs U/r Phiddian (Piggy) I am seated second so I play against seat one.
(Game 1)  We land go for the first few turns as he manages to out counter me at every turn.  He drops a Phid on 5th, a Morph on 6th and another on 7th and i was remembering those comic books when superman was split in half. Argh.
(Game 2)  I side in 3 BtB and 3 Cursed Totem.  I drop LoA first turn and figure that is a good sign.  Second turn I cast totem and lose the counterwar.  I remain short handed and out countered for the rest of the game, which closely resembles the first but there was only one superman.
 games 6/3, rounds 3/1

                    Top4
The top4 shapes up like this: seat1 - U/r Phiddian, seat2 - Emerald Alice, seat3 - DETrix, seat4 - Keeper. as luck would have it U/r Phid plays Keeper, and I draw Emerald Alice.
Ur/keeper goes 3 games (I believe) with the win going to U/r Phiddian just as it is supposed to.  Phid was packing Bloodmoons rather than BtB in it's side.  Interesting, and that won game 2.

Top4 vrs Emerald Alice (Grow?) Card Shark
(Game 1)  The details of this game are kind of sketchy to my memory and I don't have any notes from it.  I do seem to remember that around his third turn he called "threshold" and I'm thinking "but I don't play Type 2."  I quite vividly remember the end game as he had a Dryad and two WereBears preforming the beat down.
(Game 2)  I remove Capsize, Stroke, Mystical, 1 Intuition and 1 Donate for two Deep Analysis and three BtB.  He lays some early beats and is about to reach threshold when I drop Loa and Timetwister.  That nets me BtB which I quickly put in play.  I quickly draw into the combo and win the counterwar over donate.
(Game 3)  I side as before.  I drop the first turn LoA and draw into Ancestral and the 2 Deep Anal.  I drop the Anals to the grave and cast them from there.  I combo on fourth turn and he scoops two turns later.
 games 8/4, rounds 4/1

                       The Finals
As I siad last time fuck that shit I'm going to be in the Finals.  Well I still took good notes anyway.  But my note taking failed me at this point.  With everyone standing around me, and the time approaching closing time, my thoughts slipped from my notes.  It might have had something to do with me playing the only deck I lost to again.  Anyway

(Game 1)  I top deck like Queen Latifa and mize my savage swiniging man, Morphling, J/K, heh.  Seriously though, He beats my ass reguardless of the first turn LoA, and I wish I had made that deck change I had wanted to.  I had wanted to change the capsize to a Mirari as I thought that the ability to bounce things back for six mana was not as good as being able to cast an uncounterable Donate for 3.  I thought that Mirari was too type 2 and couldn't be good, I was wrong, it would have saved my hash.
(Game 2)  Goes kind of long and it's looking good for me until he lays two Phids, I am in topdeck mode and he shows me a hand full of counters.  SCOOP.

Congrats to Piggy, whos real name I did't get, on the white mox.

Missing from the metagame this time were: PowerAcademy, Pox, 1 Keeper (LambchopNYC), 1 Sui, 1Sligh, 1 bad Forbiddian, R/B land destruction, 1 Stompy, and 1 SLB.  W/b Weenie, Oath, Fires and 1 Zoo were replaced by other decks.  Also 2 Burn decks which sort of define the meta game didn't play.  Not that both of their pilots weren't there just hanging about.  One of them was the last minute drop.

Hope this was as fun for you guys to read as it was for me to write.

Mike R. just said on the other post that he found the Ancestral

[phew] Just thinking about putting myself in his shoes for a second and not being able to find my Ancestral makes me shiver. Glad he found it. Sorry to hear about your LoA, MolotDET, I guess that was the one that you won against me a couple of months back .

Another great tournament, and another great tournament report. Unfortunately there really is no way to do a game true justice without a 200 page play-by-play, because I saw some amazing counterwars going on throughout the night.

Can't wait for the big one on Saturday, September 21st

Wow, I count SEVEN games with a first turn LoA out of 6 rounds played and not once did it get Wastelanded (unless you didn't note it).   This game is so much easier when you bottom deal that LoA!

Good job, Tom, you earned it

I found it really fun bringing the t2 cards into t1 and watching your guys reactions to them

Btw-
The deck was maindeck grow with a transformational SB into Oath for the aggro matchup. I got the list from riverboa11, who I'm assuming found it here somewhere cuz I saw several people playing it in ToC6....go figure

Anyway, congrats again, and I look forward to playing you again...hopefully with a different outcome

EDIT:
I was just thinking about your deck, MolotDET, and I was wondering if you had tried out Sapphire Medallions. They've got great synergy with the majority of your deck and I think they might help...then again, u'd have to take out something for them.

I did fail to mention that LoA got wasted in three of the 7 games that I first turned it.  U/r Phid, Diavonzo Purple and Keeper did the wasting, but in the latter two, the deed was too late.

That was the LoA I won against you Lord.

And, I had sapphire medallions in the deck when I first built it last year but they were droped for a new matrix (Moxen).  I will be writing a primer for the deck eventually But I need to iron out two sideboard slots and two main deck slots.  This means I will be testing Mirari maindeck in place of either Capsize or FoF and removing 2 of the 6 SB BlueEblasts.  Capsize is a hold over from the 1.5 deck I saw posted a year or so ago, as it was listed as part of the combo but I think it no longer belongs.

Again, Thanks for reading and I hope to see all of you in three weeks.

     Until then,

Congrats on making the finals, man.  Mind sharing your decklist?  I'm curious to see others' takes on Trick(x) in T1.

I just realized that this means he thinks I was cheating, and that I'm not a very good cheat as well (seeing as how I lost).

   Let me ask a question.

If you were going to "bottom deal" a card, every game you could, wouldn't it be Ancestral, or something less situationally useful than LoA?

or perhaps I am a little too sensitive this morning?

Good Report MolotDET!

I think Drogo was playing with you, he does have the big winking smilly after that.

Can you post the deck list? I think I may have seen it a month or two ago in the main forum.

Good luck next tournament (be sure to write a report:)).

Later,

Zach

He asked me for a fun deck to play, and with the list of cards that he had available I pointed him towards your list.

I kind of figured he was just kidding, but I like replying to my own posts. heh.   Anyway I am planning on posting my deck list in the vintage forum just as soon as I finish writing the post, unfortunately I have been working alot lately and I will have to substanciate some of my card choices.  It should be posted by this coming Monday.  Thanx for all the feed back.
