I certainly hope we get a good showing! Pete Hoefling has done a lot to help support Vintage in this part of the world, and we're both excited about the prospect of having a high prestige big event annually-- or maybe even more often if the turn out is sufficient. If this works well, in a year or two there might finally be something that people in this area can look forward to that isn't as far away as Origins or GenCon.

And hey, it's not as if States really count for anything, so you may as well have a shot at some big money cards. The worst case scenario is getting to meet the whole crew in person. I'm bringing a digital camera!

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

BLACK LOTUS/MOX VINTAGE(TYPE 1) TOURNAMENT!

***This event will take place alongside the Virginia State Championships and may be the largest Vintage event held on the East Coast in years!***
Date: Saturday, November 2nd, 2002

Location: Comfort Inn and Conference Center 3200 W. Broad St. Richmond, VA 23230 for directions, please call 1(804)359-4061

Time: Doors open at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 10 a.m.. Play begins at 12 noon.

Entry Fee: $20 per player

Tournament Format: DCI Sanctioned Vintage (Type 1). The tournament will be run Swiss draw based on the number of players, cutting to a single-elimination Top 8.

Prizes

1st Place: Unlimited Black Lotus

2nd Place: Unlimited Mox Emerald

This is actually worth driving down to Virginia for because besides the crack at the Lotus or the Emerald you will play against Azhrei, Triple_S, Matt D'Avanzo, and their friends.  A high level of play for power is worth the 430987539870 hour drive from civilization.  Come and talk tech with people who actually BUILT the decks.  None of you will ever actually see a field this strong in this format again.

Also, it's run by StarCity so we know that a) the cards won't look like they've been eaten and b) the judges might just know what they're talking about.\n\n

Well the lure of the competition is more than enough for me.  I will be there.

Kird does this mean you will be there too?

JP and I may not make it since it's so far away (we're in Cleveland) but we'd like to know who is going.

If we can get there (and Greyhound doen't count because I am not spending 30 hours of my life on a bus nor am I spending $150) we'll be there, but we have no idea how to get from Cleveland to Richmond.

Excellent.  I'm planning on leaving Blacksburg, VA on the 1st to go to my house in Alexandria.  Then I'll leave from there on Saturday morning to cut down on pre-tournament travel time.

If anybody is interested in securing travel accomodations starting from either of these two places, please contact me at acorson@vt.edu.

If anybody's swinging by Cleveland at the time heading to this, please let either JP or myself know ASAP.

Last year we had 16 people for an unadvertised t1 tourny w/ a Juzam for 1st, Mana Drain for 2nd, 2 signed Psionic Blasts for 3rd.  You can expect a high level of competition and a good time, *city runs a good event.  I believe t4 last year was something along the lines of this (correct me if I'm wrong):

Winner: Sui Black
2nd:  Azhrei w/ OSE
3rd/4th:  me w/ Funker, SliverKing w/ Keeper but I could be wrong since this was a year ago.

I should probably elaborate on my first post. Being as I will be a good distance away (in Boston) it may well be that I can't go, but if there is a way, I'm certainly going to try.\n\n

I just checked my report from that tournament, and I think that's correct.

Also, I just found Azh's report here.

I may have a hard time getting there.  Was wondering if there is anyone from the NYC area planning on going?  I could split gas and tolls, and would buy a meal in exchange for the ride.

I could pretty much make it to any where within 30 min of NYC to meet up.

Kird and JP, if you can get to NYC Penn Station, you could get there easy, I would be willing to meet up with you guys there as a sort of tour guide, and we might be able to get some other NJ and NYC players to go with.

by the way

and this is my # one hundred post!!!!!!!!

I know Star City has a mess of Type 1 cards right now, at their normal overpriced cost.  Any chance if we get more then 32 contestants we can get like a Time Twister for 3rd?

That would probably up the chances for more players to show up and more T1 players means they might actually unload some of those money cards.
My point Triple was that they aren't going to sell the Time Twister anyway for 100+ so why not give it away.  I too think that twister is overpriced for a card that sees so little play

Last year we had 16 people for an unadvertised t1 tournament with a Juzam for first place.  My guess is that they will have plenty of people show for a Lotus tournament that is advertised this far in advance.  A Twister (just met her) for 3rd really isn't that attractive IMO...I have one now and haven't played with it outside of a fun Dreams deck occasionally.

I'll mention it to my crew, but I'm not sure if anyone would really want to drive 10 hrs.

Several of us here in the South are considering this trip. How many turned out last time? And are there any prizes after the top two?

There may be prizes if enough people show up. Right now the word seems to be around 40 or so.
