Greetings all.  I went to the Neutral Ground tournament today, and I played.  I ... won.

Deck Used: The Zoo Is Burning Version 1.1

2 Concordant Crossroads
4 Land Grant
4 Blurred Mongoose
4 River Boa
2 Phantom Centaur
2 Blastoderm
4 Incinerate
4 Lightning Bolt
1 Fork
4 Chain Lightning
2 Burning Wish
1 Wheel of Fortune
4 Kird Ape
4 Hull Breach
1 Black Vise
5 Forest
4 Mountain
4 Taiga
3 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
Sideboard Used
2 Seeds of Innocence
4 Blood Moon
2 Winter Orb
4 Null Rod
3 Tranquility

Now: The Rounds
There were 4 Rounds in the tournament.  About 14 people played, and it was Swiss, as usual.  They gave more credit due to the excess number or people.

Round 1: Michael Zimmerman - Miracle Gro(Extended Tuned)
I won both games.  He Land Granted and I wrote down Sleight of Hand, brainstorm, Gush, Mystic Enforcer and Werebear.  He had Forces, Flood Plains and Plows.  He resolved onw Plow against me.  I win game one fairly easily.  Game two he drops an Orb, but it doesn't really hurt me.  He even gets an Enforcer out, but he doesn't touch me the entire game. 2-0

Round 2 : Arlington Collado - Counter/Morphling
I thought I would be going up against Keeper, but it was nothing close.  It was Urza's Baubles, Forces, EYE Of RAMOS, Counterspells, a few Mana Drains, and GRIP OF AMNESIA.  He gets Morphling out, and he puts me at 2, but I've been hitting him the entire game, and I kill him before he kills me.  Game two he dorps Morphling but it doesnt touch me at all.  He got lands out the entire round, but not much else. 2-0.

Round 3: Raymond Lambert - Keeper
I've been looking towards this.
Game One:  He drops Sylvan. He Cunning Wishes for Lpow.  I gain 2 life.  He only drops Mox Pearl this game.  He Misdirections a burn to my lone creature ... a Kird Apr.  He forces a Phantom Centaur, and Zuran Orb delays his death for many turns, but he dies eventually.  I take no damage.
Game Two:  ~~<I SIDEBOARDED IN MY ENTIRE BOARD>~~  He taps out for Blood Moon.  I Cast Blood Moon the turn after.  It hits.  He sits there with lots fo mana and tkaes about 6 damage from a Black Vise.  I get out a Null Rod, and he drops a Masticore to stop taking damage from Vise.  Moat is still in.  I Hull Breach the Core and the Moat, and he can't regenerate cuz of Rod.  I then proceed to attack ... and win in a few turns.  Again, I take no damage. 2-0

Round 4: Geroge Baboussis - Suicide Black.
Game One: I get mana screwed.  The one good land i get is toasts by wastleland.  Negator bitches me this game.
Game 2:  I Side in Rods and Winter Orbs.  I take no damage this game, and I get revenge for my loss gaem one.  I am very happy.  Nothing of importance.
Game 3:  He drops Keg, I hull breach.  He drops Core, I Hull Breach.  I drop Phantom Centaur, and creatures for the Edicts.  I lose a Centaur, and then get another one with a Kird ape to suck up the Edict.  He Contagions it, so it sits there looking ... Apey.  Centaur beats.  I win.  I go to the counter and report.  I feel ... happy ... I guess. 2-1.

I win.  I know the sideboard choices seem wierd, and yes, the Seeds of Innocece did NOT help me.  I will proceed to burn them.

Critiques anyone?

also, against that Miracle Gro deck ... the orb he dropped was a WInter Orb.  So I had them in my deck and he dropped one, so I'm glad I didn't draw mine that game.

Do you mean Moat?

Also, why the 2/2 Centaur/Derm split?

In retrospect, that should have been obvious to me. Thanks.

I was reminded of playing Diablo, where Godly Plate of the Whale was highly sought-after.\n\n

I'm Sorry, but I can't type.  Apparently my keyboard plays tricks on me.  You are right in both quotes.  My Opponent taps out for Moat, then I Play Blood Moon.  And the Cunning Wish was for Swords to Plowshares.  Also the 2/2 split was a test fo Blasto vs centaur.  I like both of them, but I didn't know which one works better.  Sorry about that.

congrats again this week
you have been doing well in a number of tournies lately

With so many players sideing in so much hate against me I may switch to another deck. There was another player I faced that sided in 14 and than 15 cards against me that same day.

And don't feel bad about your typing, haveing a keyboard that plays tricks on you is nothing too bad. At least your not on ascid and see the letters moving around from one key to another!

Haha I wonder how you'd know about that ... Just Kidding.  If you feel like switching decks and paying Burn again, I'll cry.  No wait, I'll just lose.  anyway, good luck next week.

On deck choices, I don't think 4 casting cost creatures have a place in zoo. Also wishes are control tech they are too slow for aggro especially when the wish is a sorcery. The chain lightnings and the corcodent crossroads seem unessecary which gives you a total of 12 open spots. AIM at westredale or email at Westredale@aol.com for further info. Hope to see you coming one Friday its always nice to meet more people from this site.
So if you droped those you end up with 12 open spots!(I'd suggest)
3 Stormbind
4 Shaman
4 River Boa
4 Incinerate
4 Lightning Bolt
1 Fork
1 Wheel of Fortune
4 Kird Ape
4 Hull Breach
1 Black Vise
4 Skyshroud Elite
3 Fireblast (if you work at mana issues the deck seems to be really strong there are a few people on this site running it)
6 Fetch Lands
4 Land Grant
4 Taiga
4 Mountain
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
If insistent on running greater then 3 casting cost creatures, you might like to try orcish lumberjack and birds, to get things like centaur, shivan wurm, and saproling burst out quickly.

... umm ... I see a few problems with your version.

First, I'm not putting in Fetch-Lands... until November 1st.  I definitely will after Onslaught is legal, but not yet.  You  have a VERY wierd mana base.  8 lands.  4 of which will be destroyed by opponents.  4 Mountains is not a good base for 8 green creatures and Fireblasts.  You have 4  Land Grants and 6 Fetchlands, and 8 lands you could search for.  I REALLY think you're trying to kill me.

Cursed Scroll is not a good idea when youre running 4 Null Rods on sideboard.  This is why I'm not running Chimeric Idols either.  I don't use Cursed Scrolls.  They're good, but ... not with Null Rods.

Skyshroud Elite doesn't work too much with 4 Blood Moons.  I'm sorry if ths sounds whiney, but my sideboard is geared away from Control, which there is an abundance of.  I agree with the 4 casting cost creatures being a little too much, but using creatures that will have to be boarded out is not appealing.  I'd rather use Grim Lavamancers instead.  They even combo with that Burning Wish.  Oh look, I've narrowed those slots from 12 to 4.  And I've decided whats's going in those slots.

Mana wise, the reason I've used more forests than Mountains is simply this.  Blood Moon gives me more Red mana.  ANd sideboarding out burn is sometimes the best thing to d in certain situations, so I will end up needing green mana more than Red, so I think some of my choices aren't that bad.

Well, it sems this is opne to discussion, so feel free to respond.  I enjoy discussing my deck, and I really do appreciate the help you're trying to give me.

Lol forgot you wanted to keep null rod in maybe you could try stormbind, and the mana base need to be reworked but fireblast zoo is really showing improvement

Vinny and Eric played in (and Vinny won) a big tourney in NJ within the last month.  Sadin is banned for cheating, D'Avanzo has quit Magic and now plays Yu-Gi-Oh.  Wink

JP is on these boards; I can tell he's still playtesting, but I havent seen any reports from him.  JP?

D'Avanzo still plays.

I know that those 2 guys played in NJ, but that was Jersey. NG used to be heralded as one of the strongest metagames...

See where I am heading?

Eric and I still compete there on a regular basis. Jason with his survival deck is another very strong player that has been able to make it again on a regular basis. The three of us were all in the event ourselves.

Matt spends too much time playing computer games saterday night and doesn't make it on Sundays anymore but he never made it on Fridays anyway.

Vinny doesn't get out of work early enough on Fridays and sometimes sticks in the t2 or Lord of the Rings Tourney if he is doing well.

Rob has been out of town but I suspect he will be coming back soon.

Steven can't compete in sanctioned events. And I want to state that my personal experience with him leads me to believe that he never did anything intentionally wrong and got shafted with that suspention.

JP, Kaplan, Legend and Negator never managed to make it often just mostly to the bigger events.
