Results: Gametech - Minneapolis

Gametech (Minneapolis area) holds a Type-1 every Friday night at 6:30.  $3 entry fee.  Prizes are packs / store credit based on how many entered.

This week we did 4 rounds Swiss, cutting to a top-4.  The winning decks were, in order.

1st: TurboNevyn
2nd: BSB
3rd: Parfait
4th: Enchantress*

* Not the Enchantress you'd be familiar with from here.  He was playing Auratog + Rancor.  It was unpowered, but he played it well and got some really huge togs coming in for the beatings.

I decided to put TnT on hold until next week, when Onslaught will be legal.  I went with TurboNevyn, mainly because I love the deck, and it's been a while since I pulled it out.

Not counting my 4th round intentional draw, I went 5-0 tonight with a game score of 10-0. There isn't much to say about most of the matches.  The deck is more complex than it appears, but it's still Solitaire.  I went off 10 times in a row.

In the finals I played against Ben and his BSB deck.  I've played this matchup many times against one of the best mono-U players in the area (Browser aka Brian Cox), so I went in with a gameplan.  Ben was more inexperienced with the matchup, and I think that was the difference.  I was able to use EOT spells to force out counters and get lands tapped, and set him up for my one big turn.

Game two I was able to get things through with brute force. I used Duress + Red Elemental Blast to keep his hand size down.  He had a Library of Alexandria out early, but wasn't able to use it at all.  After I finally got Fastbond and a Horn of Greed into play, the next ten cards on my deck were lands.  That's pretty much sweet, and Abeyance sealed it.

Good job to everyone there tonight.  It was another good tourney.

That enchantress deck sounds pretty bad....  I can't belive someone would use something like that...

And the kid who used it really sucked from what I've heard

Hmm wait a second, enchantress, top 4, lost against Turbonevyn, hmm Oh wait thats me.

Anyhow congrats on winning the tournament.

The matchups were interesting overall that day.  There are usually at least two keeper players at gametech but one decided to not show up and one decided to play parfait.  

I matched up against aggro mostly and my last minute weird metgame choices were somehow able to beat Sui.

I also got lucky against somewhat unpowered Zoo.  He had Anarchy.  He never got two red sources....

Overall it was a fun tournament and the deck I used was pretty bad but it was really fun playing it.  The combo is hilarious and players get pissed off a lot because its not your basic Academy combo or such that shows the brokeness of restricted cards.

Now GreatAngle don't diss a creative deck that gets you into top 4 (especially one i built).  You didn't even play the version with the really cool combo.  My unpowered R/G probably should have beaten you stupid screw.  Just imagine when you can play the real version of that deck!
