For the record, I'm available anytime so scheduling is not an issue for me.

A Beta Lotus would be quite the attention-grabbing prize. Alpha would be more stylish. A playset of Workshops would be most useful, since I'm guessing that a bunch of people already have Lotuses.

Of course, an Alpha/Beta Lotus for first and 4 Workshops for second would be quite awesome. This would probably raise the entry fee to an ungodly amount though.

As a side note, if the Invitational were to be held on a Sunday, anyone staying in Binghamton on Saturday would be able to get warmed up in our weekly ass-kicking contest at the local shop here.

/cry

someone organize one of these in like.. Vegas or something  West Coast sucks so much for magic anyway, we might as well make the most of it  I would happily organize one, but I have quite a few other things to deal with at the moment.

Quote and in the middle of Christmas and New Years and well after the end of Khaunika (<---spelling? sorry not Jewish) this would be a pretty good time.

It's generally spelled chanukah, or hannukah (although since it's hebrew, you can br 1-2 letters off--it's jsut a transliteration   )

Well, I can't really come to anything outside of Boston unless someone gives me a ride. I'll also be in California for my break (which is the 2nd 1/2 of december, and the first 1/2 of January). My parents actually have me flying back the afternoon of the day when I have my last final.

I would love to get a lotus or the workshops, though.

Has it been decided where this is going to be held?

Or at least could someone give me a central city? I am checking airfare/train ticket prices.

Quote Saturday and Sunday, January 4th or 5th are open, but this might be cutting it close to the time that people are heading back to school.

I think many people will still be on break (read: College guys) and I will be able to make it.

Quote
Quote     So from this list it looks like we should shoot for the 28th, 29th, 4th or 5th.  Though I think we should defer to Zherbus as to when it should be held, as he might want to make the NH torny the "First Anual themanadrain.com Invitational."

This being said, a Beta Black Lotus would be a really cool Prize for first place (and would deffenetly grab some attention), with perhaps a set of Workshops going to the second place, and something else for third and forth (though this might be expensive).

Well, Any place in Mass, upstate NY, or CT is fine for me. NH isnt the best because its such a pain for lots of people to make it to. The Mox Sapphire tournament should be enough in addition to the Boston Tournament.

CooberP how is the 7th looking for you?

Yeah, Syracuse would be cool, it's only 4 hours from Montreal or so.  I'll just really need to make an IBZ deck in RL by then, because I really don't really feel like playing anything else.  Would someone be able to lend me two Psionic Blasts if I come?

Well, here's my vote then:

When: January 5th
Where: Syracuse, NY
Place: Altered States if we can get it, otherwise anywhere.

And if this flies, I offer up my apartment in Johnson City (about 90 minutes south of Syracuse) January 3rd and January 4th (and 5th if needed). I have couch space for three people, and floor space for about six more comfortably.

If you come Friday night or Saturday morning, you can compete in the weekly Saturday T1 @ Fat Cat's (1:30pm). (Where the competition is pretty damn intense).

For those coming from the South-ish, we can work out car pool arrangement to go from Binghamton up to Syracuse and back on Sunday. (Those not from the South would obviously leave straight from Syracuse)

BurningIce: Not a problem, you can borrow two from me.

The 5th is fine for me, although it would be better if it could be earlier.  As for times that I am free, any sunday is good, as long as you give me enough time to adjust my work schedule.

If ALL the west coast players and all their friends show up I would be willing to organize a 'Mana Drain West Coast Championship' type event in San Diego. I have a played Beta Black Lotus that I could use for first place, or alternatively I have an extra set of Workshops. I probably could spare a Library of Alexandria for second place as well, and an Abyss for third. Would 20+ people be willing to pay $25 to enter with full prize support is the question?? Let me know and we can work something out to happen the first couple weeks of the new year.

PS. Those cards aren't for sale so don't ask. They are part of my personal collection.

This is my first post I believe, not the last one either, but boa just told me about it and its sounding quite interesting so count me in. I vote for the 5th also, ill have to adjust my schedule though.

The beta lotus sounds like a nice prize and I would hope the competition is strong, just my only question would be what would the entry fee be set at?

I didn't read all the threads, but I'm going to assume we don't have a finalized place.  However, I am wondering (roughly) when we are planning on doing such things.  Is it going to be during school winter break?

Nothing is finalized yet but the perspective place is at Altered States in Syracuse NY and it will probably take place over winter break (most likely on the 5th judging by the previous posts).

My vote goes to at least Binghamton. Most players are coming from NYC, New England, and NJ. How many are coming from Michagan or that part of canada?

I'm a fan of having it in binghamton   But space is -probably- going to be an issue, but depending on how many people we expect, and what day of the week we plan on having it, I can probably get us space SOMEWHERE.  I talked to Allan(The guy who runs the tournaments at Altered States) and he said to just let him know when we want some space and he'll get it for us.  And they have ALOT of space, so we should do just fine.

Syracuse (Altered States) is better for four to five of us who might come down from Toronto.

So, has anything about this event been decided in the las few days?

so lets say:

Where: Altered States, Syracuse, NY?
When:  Sunday, January 5th, high noon? (sorry I love to say high noon)
Prizes:  to be announced

what does everyone think about that?  If this can be decided on in a few days, we can form a sort of quarum to get this thing rolling.  Course I would only have to be there in spirit because Syracuse is 5 or so hours from me, but I will make the torny.

That is perfect for me.  I really don't mind if its in Syracuse or Binghamton, but I prefer Syracuse.

Looks like its going to be Syracuse then.

What's the skinny on the date? January 5th seems like a good deal; enough time for everyone to make arrangements and all.

Prizes would probably be the next order of business after deciding the date.

Thirdly, should we get this shizzy sanctioned? Or shall we allow for some proxy action?

For prizes, either the Beta Lotus or the set of Workshops would do.  Don't really have a preference there as either of them would be great prizes.  Are we going to have cool prizes for 2nd and/or 3rd?  Such as an Abyss, Drains, or whatever.

Personally, I would like the tourney to be sanctioned.  But if enough people want to use proxies, I have no problem with that either.

Well, I'm too lazy to read beyond the first page, but I'm with The Dude.  We westcoasters (particularly us california pretty boys) deserve something out here.  I'd do whatever I could for it, but that obviously wouldn't be a whole lot.

There's a shop I've met Ogami at in Hollywood (if anybody remembers him) and BrianB and his crew are in Newport, etc. etc.

Somebody keep me updated on this possibility, if it even is one.

myself, I live in MD and would love to see one of these. I would attend, and NJ is not that far, 3-4 hours, but further for the VA crew, and I know about 10-20 people that would come if the prize was something like a beta lotus/set of workshops.

sorry to "dis" any WC people, we don't hate you.

Great idea MolotDET, and it should be on a saturday I believe, maybe even a 2 day event?

And DCI certied would send the DCI not only a message, but hook some of us up who can't always get to the big tourneys Wink

But, I say NJ is better then NY, but then again a lot of people hate NJ cause of the smellyness (sorry. ever been on the turnpike? Know what I am talking about them!)

As for the Michigan/Canada area, I would bet money Pat Chapin and edt would come along with some t1 players I have spoke to before on IRC in canada.

Anyway, I've said enough.

I think if this thing is going to happen (i'm still keeping my eye on this thread and always checking on train ticket prices), I think that something needs to be set far enough ahead so people have time to make plans, get vacation slips in, etc...

Set like a deadline that by Dec. 7 the date/time/place will be finalized.

Plus, it would give plenty of time to playtest and get ready for it.

DoubleJ20- I know I could personally pledge 4 guys, though timing may be a large issue.  I also know how to contact most all the San Diego crew, and would contact all the OC guys I know.  It's a very serious consideration.  I'll write a few e-mails, see what kind of response I get.

Count me in. I'll be coming from TO, so I would obviously prefer Syracuse. Do you think we could set a date (as someone else has suggested) as to when the details of the tourney can be confirmed?

BTW, Razor, specialk, mal: Keep in touch about this; I'm assuming we're going to try and organize something for the way down.

Okay, I'm going to start a poll on the location tomorrow, just so we can start finalizing things. Everybody keep your eyeballs open for it.

After that, I'll start a poll for the date. Give me some choices for that one.

We should really get this bidness underway.
