I'll come if you have the tournement at Altered.

How much will the tournement cost to enter?

@ klown - You should probably do a poll for the prizes too.  Just to see what everybody wants them to be.

I think the location has already been decided after reading this thread and looking for people's nominations so I don't think that the poll is really necesarry.

Altered States, Syracuse NY it seems.

Regarding prizes, who's on the prize acquisition comittee? I'm going to have to withdraw from that responsibilty since I refuse to Ebay and I don't have anything of value to put up except a Mint Italian Abyss.

Also, keep in mind that it needs to be manageable. The entry fee shouldn't exceed $30 (although $20 would be ideal), and we're going to need prizes for other than first place (preferrably something for everyone who makes top 8).

I'll put up a poll for the first-place prize though, just to see what people would rather have.\n\n

Hey all - I'm picking this thread up at the ass end of it but it seems most has been decided.

Anyway, the tentative time was "at high noon".  Would 1 o'clock be better to give people some extra travel/sleep time and still kick it off at a relatively early hour?

Just my two cents.  I think I'm going to try to attend, just to meet up with all TMD's crew.  Heh, gonna wear stickers around saying "Hi!  My name is [enter handle here]"

any chance we could move the location father south for us Southerners.  I bet the potato and cow states wouldn't mind it either.  (Indiana, Iowa, Illinois)

Methinks Syracuse is the best location since its about an equal distance for everyone from the east cost to travel.

A breakdown of the approximate travelling times to Syracuse:

From Upstate NY: 2 hours
From New England: 6 hours
From NYC/NJ Area: 5 hours
From Canada: 6 hours
From eastern Midwest: 8 hours
From Virginia: 8 hours

These are all big overestimates too.

Most of the people who would be in attendance are from the first 4 areas and if we were to move it further south, it would probably cut out the Canadians and New Englanders.

The tentative date and location is January 5th, 2003 at Altered States, Syracuse NY.

with the closest attendee being 2 hours away.  Is there going to be enough random people showing up?  I mean it is for the Manadrainers but for a good torney, does the local area have any players?

I have a simple question.

Is there anyone who lives in the Syracuse area that could help me out? Since I am thinking of going to this thing I need to find out about a motel room and/or taxi or rental car.

Plus, I need to know if there is a train station in Syracuse.

Jeremy and I live about an hour away and we're probably bringing a few friends (probably 5 of us). Carl and kl0wn live about an hour (I think) south of Syracuse and I'm sure they're bringing a few friends too. Last T1 I played in had about 25 players of all play abilities. I'm pretty sure there will be a decent sized local crowed.

I was a big proponent of having this thing in a more centralized location, but I think Syracuse might be a bit more central than NJ/NYC, as per our perposes here.  Even though upstateNY makes Va and the near mid west a little further off, it sort of balances out when thinking of new england and Canada.

Syracuse is a college town and has hotels and a train/bus station.

What about Mid US, like Indiana, Illinois or Wisconsin. It is between East/ West coast wich gives equal opportunity to all T1 players (GP Milwaukee was HUGE). Kind of like East vs West or something. If you did more advertising it could have a huge turnout making it worth the extra time put in and driving time. Or you could even wait and have it at GenCon or the likes.

Has the date/time/place been set for this yet? I want to know something concrete here before I commit to a plane/train ticket.

Klown: Depends where in Canada.  From Montreal it's only 4 hours for example.

Heh.

I was overestimating with most of the travelling times. For example, it only takes about 7 hours to get here from southern Virginia.

Abra_Volta: The tentative date is January 5th, 2003. Its on a Sunday.

To my knowledge, the date hasn't been secured. Carl was supposed to do it, but I'll probably begin negotiations with them within the next week.

Sounds good.  I just want a solid date so I can get that day off work far enough in advance.

Carl, ask Alan if Altered would want to handle the prize aqcuisition and registration too (tell him they get to keep the excess money as incentive). Or just have him email me or something.

A small detail.  As cheesy as it sounds, we should all wear name/nick-tags so that we can get to know each other easier that day.

If I wear facepaint, Im sure everyone will pick up on who I am. Unfortunately, there will probably not be blacklights or hard music so Ill look somewhat out of place...I guess other than a thick fat magic marker on my forehead, nametags would be good.

If it turns out that Jan.05 is a no-go, Jan.04 (Sat.) is all-round better for me, personally.

I hear school starts up again on Jan.06 (Mon.)

I say to go with the 5th, its a sunday and most ppl work on saturdays making it impossible for them to make it to a tourney.  thus the 5th would make it possible for ppl like me to come and bring others for a larger tourney.

<sigh> .... It seems as though we need another poll to confirm. This *must* be settled soon, time is wearing thin.

just trying to get the discussion rolling again.  i'm pretty sure we decided on syracuse for the location, but what about the date?  the last thing mentioned was the 5th.  how many can make this?  should we try to bump it to the 4th to allow for a double weekend with carta magica?  do we need another poll?

Its been pushed back. It was just too hastily put together to get a realistic idea of who can make it. It probably wont be happening until sometime near spring break.

Note to everyone: I am not organizing it! Please dont AIM me/PM me/otherwise get in touch with me about when/where/what type things.
