Huge T1 Tourney in Spain last sunday

Hello people,
last sunday there was a huge T1 tourney in Madrid, Spain.
There were 221 people .
This post is just to let all you know about it and about the top8 decks. I could not attend it, however I will post here any info related to the tourney, the metagame, ...

yeah, thanks for the post.  i think its essential to make the vintage community international in concept, even though we rarely play each other (except maybe online).

i would be very interested to hear of any rogue variants that did well in a 200+ person tourney.  turbo land in first, who knew?

I almost droped one in my pants when I saw that more than 200 people competd. I have never been in a T1 with more than about forty people and less than five had more than thirty. I hope this can get Wizard's attention. Props to everyone who contributed to making the event so grand. Thanks to you too for this report.

I was there and there was very high level. I ended up 14th with my full-powered TnT (bad luck I got paired against a Dragon combo... he made the top8).

The metagame was mainly aggro in the lower half and varied in the upper sections. I saw no more TnT decks than mine, but there were many control/counter and many combo decks. In the Top8 there was:

4 combo (2xdragon, trix and academy)
1 Gro
2 aggro (BG pernicious and RG typical)
1 re-animator deck (fat + entomb + animate dead)

You could see lots and lots of P9 sets and very high level. People from all over Spain were there to play for that Lotus (1st prize) and Mox Emerald (2nd prize).

My pairings were as follows (just as a sample)

1st: Keeper (missing 3 moxes, he got all the rest)
2nd: Survival (Kiddie Survival, no power)
3rd: Sui Black (Pretty Fast, Nantukos and the like)
4th: Mono Blue (lots of counters + Morphling)
5th Dragon Combo - fully powered (first loss)
6th Sligh (pretty good, but mine was faster)
7th Mono Black (I shouldn't have lost to this, but I drew no land... damn!)
8th Mono Blue (half-powered). No problem

What were the pairings for top 8?

Pairings for top8 were as follows:

Trix vs. Dragon1 = after a 1-1, dragon won

Academy vs. BG pernicious = Academy won (I didn't see it)

Re-animator vs. RG = RG won (biorhythm won, actually)

Gro vs. Dragon2 = Gro won with no problems

So there was left Academy, Gro, Dragon and RG

The semi-finals were:

Gro vs. RG = Gro won with no problem again

Academy vs. Dragon = Endless matches, but Academy won

(It was fun actually, because Dragon is pretty weak against so many counters, so he sided in some Negators. Somehow he managed to win a game, so they were 1-1 and in the last game, he died himself thanks to his own Mana Crypt... pretty lousy)

Final: Academy vs. Gro = I didn't get to see it (it was eleven and I worked the next day), but I saw the day after that Academy won the whole tournament

It was a long day, but very much fun. These events called "Opens" are held roughly every 6 months and sponsored by a shop in Madrid (Metropolis). If any of you can ever make it, don't hesitate; it's so much fun...

I remember helping a player to test the night before, and suggesting him to play Combo, specificly squirrelcraft, which would be strong enough agaisnt control with 14 MD counters and the ability to intuition for 3 moment's peace, which would give him 4 extra turns agaisnt aggro if needed. Though, I never saw him again online, I wonder how did he do..
