I want to give an update on the current status of The Mana Drain Invitational.

Because of the short amount of time and the low number of people that can actually make it, it has been decided that it should be postponed. There has also been confusion because of the "Invitational" part of the event.

I have talked with people who have helped with organization, and we feel that the tournament should be moved out to Spring break time-frame and renamed to something like "North-East T1 Championship". I'm hoping that by moving this back a few months, we can get a LOT more people to make it as well as allow time to get some prizes that are appropriate.

As for the prizes, I personally don't want people to have to pay more than $10-$15 to enter and I want there to be prizes for the top four people. The prizes will be estimated based on the number of people who have "confirmed" to attend within 4-6 weeks before the actual tournament. (So if 30 people confirm, I will allocate prizes worth $400-$450 for the top four spots).

On the proxy issue, it looks like people were pretty divided based on the poll that kl0wn ran so I think the best idea is to go with "Any 5 proxies". That should allow people who don't have power to get a couple of the moxes they need, or if there's just a couple cards your missing, you can throw in those Mana Drains or Workshops. That should also still give the people who have already spent time to aquire power to have a slight edge.

Because of the proxy policy, this will not be a sanctioned tournament, but that doesn't mean that Wizards won't notice. If done properly, I think this event can be one of the biggest in a long time, but we are going to need to get a LOT more interest in it first.

I'm going to ask one of the admins to leave this thread open for another week so I can get some discussion going, but after that I will try to start a similar thread to this one to start getting this event rolling (which will probably involve another poll or two).
