It was a lot of fun yesterday. I usually play a trinity type Keeper (not standard version), but I figured it wouldnt do as well in a high (as in everyone) power tournament, so I decided to play paragon with a pretty different sideboard and only 1 or 2 changes maindeck.
Super short report: Round 1 vs. against sam also from hadley playing Urphid, I offered draw, we played to game 3 then decided to draw anyway. 0-0-1
Round 2 vs. some guy who I have a picture of, you'll see him in the pics I send to Steve, playing Stacker2. I sweep him. I win game 2 by mana burning him by killing 3 Su-Chi's. 1-0-1
Round 3 vs. Steve H also hadley crew playing Emerald Alice. Game one I get a Recall misdirected even with my double force of will backup (he had Mis d, Force, Force, blue card, blue card, blue card.) I lost that game. Game 2 I mulligan and get mana screwed up the bum bum. 1-1-1
Round 4 vs. Tom (MolotDET). I win 2-1 after a drawn out game 3 where I stroke of genius him to death of a Will. 2-1-1
Round 5 vs. Andy playing dragon. If I won I would have placed top 8. Game 1 is when bad things occured. I ended up recalling, he misdirects it and says "No, I recall" and I misdirect and go "No I recall". Basically, I do it so I can draw the 3 cards. He doesn't just say "fine", but instead stacks it up and puts my recall on the bottom, then his mis d, then my mis d. He asks what Im misdirecting. I say recall. Then he explains it like so: my mis d resolves, then his, so he draws the cards. Yes, that is how it works, but its not what I said. I didnt say "in response to your mis d, I will mis d" I just mis d'ed it back to me (I would assume it's implied that I wait for his to resolve or whatever). I could have argued, but I was in a humble mood, and let it go. I lost. Game 2 I am out of it and make some dumb plays. It takes me WAY longer than it should have to win. Game 3 we run out of time and I forfiet to him on a prize split (I lost the dice roll).
Earlier he whined over another wording thing with Brian Phelon playing mask. The argument was he said Brian played a diabolic edict in response to the dragon coming into play (can you even do that, I know you can do it in responce to the dragon being cast or once it is in play, but whatever.). Brain says he said he lets the dragon enter play then stated "in response, Ill edict it". The game was called a draw because of inability to conclude what actually happened. They went on to draw the round because of time during game #5.
Maybe its just where I play, but I have never had to watch my wordings so carefully. He brags about doing that kinda thing to people on his site (teamacademy.com) and he definitely lives up to the slogan "We're the biggest assholes." Who here would actually make someone stack up effects with only the intention of hoping they will misword something. Sounds like someone who likes winning more than beating someone. Maybe its just me.
I decided to cheer on hadley against my own best interests (prize wise) given we did well enough to place 4 in the top 8. I was glad to see him get his ass handed to his previously 21-0 ( ) deck by Steve (GI) in the semi's.
Glad to see Chris get the Sapphire and Steve get the masks, great day for Hadley crew.

Quote The argument was he said Brian played a diabolic edict in response to the dragon coming into play (can you even do that, I know you can do it in responce to the dragon being cast or once it is in play, but whatever.). Well, what he wanted to do was cast edict in response to the dragon's comes-into-play trigger going on the stack. That way, the edict would resolve, and the dragon's leaves-play trigger would go on the stack (on top of the CIP trigger). So, the leaves play trigger would resolve, returning nothing, and then the CIP trigger would resolve, removing all his permanents for good.

we all knew what he meant to do, and its what phelon meant to do also just the douchebag was twisting our words its things like that when if you're playing against a bad player i could see checking if they knew how to do it, but doing it to a guy playing mask with power and then calling him a blatant liar is downright stupid. if the same thing had happened the other away around and brian was playing mask, i have no doubts that brian would've been like 'shit' and flipped over all his permanents and sent the dragon to the grave
i'm just glad he didn't get any farther than he did

Well, if he used rules lawyering to try to get his opponents to play their cards incorrectly, that's just wrong. It's a perversion of how the game should be played.
I think Vintage may be lucky in that we don't have many of those kinds of players. But when "pros" like andystok go to vintage tournaments, that can destroy the whole atmosphere.

I know andy he will be an asshole like that down to the scrub matches. Also he barely plays t1 he mostly does extended and t2 the formats most rule lawyers play.

I called a judge over for that one. I dunno if he didnt get the joke, or if the giant stick up his ass was distracting him at that time and he couldn't concentrate.

If this guy is calling for judges every 3 minutes, make sure he gets his official warnings for unsportsmanlike or failure to agree whenever appropriate. That way he wont be able to screw with people forever; the DCI will eventually give him the spanking it sounds like he needs. Quote He doesn't just say "fine", but instead stacks it up and puts my recall on the bottom, then his mis d, then my mis d. He asks what Im misdirecting. I say recall. Then he explains it like so: my mis d resolves, then his, so he draws the cards. OTOH, I think he's right here. If he stacked it up and asked you what to resolve, you had a couple chances to jump out and say "Oh no, no stacking, I wait for your Mis-D to resolve" or to say "I am Mis-Ding your Mis-D to mine" (rules guys, is this right?) if you saw what was coming. But you didn't, so live and learn. The Dragon thing is crap though. The only way to win that argument is to fast talk your way through the stacking and then claim that your opponent Edicted in response to the Dragon being cast or something. In the first example, he lays it all out because he knows he's right. In the second one, (well, I wasnt there, but...) I just dont see it unless your Mask friend made a big mistake: Rules Lawyer: "So in response to me casting Dragon, you put Edict on the Stack?" Mask Guy: "Yes." That would be bad. Its still cheesy, but that sort of stuff works from time to time.

I was sitting right next to hulk3rules when this happened, but I was so tied up in my own game that I didn't hear the whole thing. I really wanted to lie and say I knew exactly what hulk3rules said cause that was a really gay thing of that guy to do.
I mean who casts diabolic edict in response to a creature coming into play?

Quote look for a report, or maybe just a random post of this incident. I'd be interested to see either. Actually, I'd rather see the report. Post it here to start; Zherbus can move it if it becomes a talk about sportsmanship/rules lawyering etc.

I was playing next to the Worldgorger/Mask against Thom. Andy was being a complete asshole, and he knows damn well that he was wrong, he was just pissed off because he knew that he was playing a better deck - I could see him shaking

You know, I thought about it a bit more and realized that Andy probably cheated BillTheDuck on the Ancestral-MisD-MisD ruling -- if Bill declares Ancestral as his MisD target, the only legal thing he can do is MisD the Ancestral to Andy. Which then leaves Andy in the unfortunate position of having a MisD on the stack and an Ancestral pointed at him. So, either he didnt realize this, or he actively cheated when he explained how this stack resolves.
I started a thread in the Rules section to discuss this issue.

I always thought you could misdirect to the target it was already targeting yourself. The point was that I never said in response to his mis d I was mis ding. He took it that way, then showed me stuff. And I was stupid and didnt realize I was right untill after I sighed and said whatever (in the most spiteful way I could).
