Browsing around the net, I found that magic4you had three lists of this deck as tournament winners. I was fascinated by it
and still believe Chapin Gro a Tier 1 deck. This abuses the engine without the Dryads. How very strange.

Bernardo with Super Mask,
1st in the T1 Prized Tourney of 2002-12-16

Main Deck

Mox Emerald
Mox Sapphire
Black Lotus
Library of Alexandria
4 Tropical Island
4 Polluted Delta
4 Island

3 Werebear

4 Misdirection
4 Force of Will
4 Daze
Foil

Time Walk
Ancestral Recall
4 Impulse
4 Brainstorm
4 Gush
4 Sleight of Hand
2 Merchant Scroll

4 Illusionary Mask
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought

Sideboard
2 Gilded Drake
3 Tormod's Crypt
3 Hidden Gibbons
3 Naturalize
4 Powder Keg

This deck has won three times at Magic4you.
I'm fascinated by it.

Hey, it looks very strange but it does have plenty
of draw so I guess 16 sources of mana work? Werebears help a bit too I imagine.

It is not as fast as some Mask decks yet it is much more resiliant and flexible. It looks weird.  But it won online regularly. I have not tested it in a live tournament yet but I
suspect that it would do well as it really comes as
a surprise.

Look what it offers -
11 counters
13 search cards (cantrip)
2 tutors
LoA
7 threats

That's a heck of a lot better than some other combo
decks I've seen which is what Mask is essentially.

Forget how Black Mask plays. This is predicated
upon different lines. I suspect will find the card you
need very quickly.

I would be very tempted to remove a Daze, MisD and
some other card for three man-lands ( or even Dryads)
but maybe they are not used because it would effect
the tempo of the deck.

bebe,

as a dryad player i am interested in this build, however, might it get better attention in the vintage forum.  i'm guessing you're looking more at what people think of the build as opposed to the fact that it won a tourney.

also, where's the site for this?  i tried www.magic4u.com and www.magic4you.com.  i got nothing but magicians.

Well, I am actually just sharing the build with a few thoughts. It's not mine and since I do not play Gro, I will leave it to others to take this further.

Using the "gro engine" is curious.  Take, for example, the four Dreadnaughts and the four Masks out and replace them with four Illusions and four Donates.

There might be some potential here, with this engine, to abuse combo decks.

First of all, this should probably be moved.

Second, I really dont see the use of green. When you play gro, the green is for Dryad and you get a few other things. With this you get, well, Wearbear. If you want a creature, play Ophidian or if you want something more aggressive play Dibs. The sb green stuff isnt all that great, so I would just cut the green.
