Okay kids, after too many things went sour the first time around, we decided to postpone the date of this monster tournament until sometime during spring break and change the name to something a little more accurate.

There are no invitations, so its not The Invitational anymore. Its being held in the northeastern US and everyone who is anyone in this area should be attending, so I think its fitting to call it the Northeastern US Championship. Less confusing for everyone this way.

So what says everyone about the date? I have no idea when Spring Break is for anyone, or who would be able to attend, so fill me in kids.

For the record, the tentative location is still the same, which would be Altered States in Syracuse, NY. Trust me folks, its the only location that could support a tournament of this magnitude and that is about the same driving distance for everyone.

So let the scheduling begin.

just so long as its on the weekend (so us working folk can attend), and its in syracuse, i'm there.  i'm not sure how people feel about this, but since we anticipate a large turn out, and some people will be traveling long distances, how about side events or a 2nd tournament (alternative format perhaps)?

I know this has nothing to do with scheduling, but I thought I'd share the idea of pre-registration to see what everyone thinks. Pre-registration has the following benefits:

- It will give you an idea of how many people to expect. I'm sure not many will be willing to drive from hell's acre to Syracuse for a 20 man tourney.

- It will help fund the prizes, which should be good. The better the prizes, the more competitors will be attracted.

- It forces people to commit to the tournament. It really is a let down when your buddy says that he is coming with 15 others, and at the last minute bails out.

I would suggest a pre-registration fee that is slightly cheaper than a standard entry fee. For example, have a $20 entry fee at the door, and a $15 pre-registration fee. Also, I would close the pre-registration at the most, 1 week before the tournament. We want people registering ASAP.

With regards to scheduling, I think another poll would be the best way to go.

Yes, it will be on a weekend. Otherwise, just about everyone from down here won't be able to attend either.

Side events are a good idea. What exactly did you have in mind?

Pre-registration will begin after I finish negotiations with Altered States (which I will begin once the date is set).

I'm going to shoot for the same prize structure as was previously determined. Fortunately, the tournament will be a couple of months away, so I (and MolotDET if he still wants to be on the prize commitee) will have time to collect pre-registrations and hunt down the prizes.

Tentative entry fee is $25 pre-registration and $30 at the door. I know it seems like a lot, but the prizes aren't going to come cheap. Also, I was planning on having prizes for the entire top 8 if the collected entry fees exceed the amount spent on prizes for top 4.

I was also toying with the idea of having a decent prize for the player who had the best results with an unpowered deck if there is still some of the entry fees left over.

I'd also like to make it known that nobody will be walking off with any of the entry fees if they didn't earn them. 100% of the fees is going back to the players as prizes, this is assuming that I can convince Altered to not charge for use of their space.\n\n

Spring Break is usually the second or third week of April.  Does it have to be that far away, though?

I think that $25-$30 is asking too much, that's a serious chunk of change, especially if your considering having side events. The idea is to encourage everyone to show up and play. With an entrance fee like that, your going to scare away some people.

I would like to see something along the lines of $10 for pre-reg and $15 at the door. I think that should still allow for reasonable T4 prizes while not busting anyone's balls for cash.

Perhaps a vote would be the better way to go though.

Also, since you've started this thread, I'm going to ask an admin to un-pushpin the old the one. If you want, I would be willing to start another one to keep track of all those who have registered, need rides, etc.

While the $20 entry fee would defintely generate more attendance, it won't allow for the bomb-diggity spanktastic prize structure that was determined before (1st place Beta Lotus, 2nd place 4 Workshops, 3rd place 4 Masks, 4th place something random but good).

I guess the only thing to do now is start another prize/entry fee poll.

Riverboa11: I pulled the Spring Break timeframe out of my arse because it would seem to be the next time when everyone was available. Also, it would allow for ample time to acquire prizes.

If folks are going to be available to attend before Spring Break, y'all need to speak up. That's the main purpose of this thread, so we can get a date set in stone and I can begin negotiations with Altered.

In the meantime, I'm setting up a prize/entry fee poll.

Edit: I started to make the pool, but realized that no prizes were specified for the $15 at the door, $10 pre-registration entry fee structure. Any thoughts?

If approximately 30 people pre-registered and about 10-15 showed up at the door, that would give us $450-$525 to work with (these were the numbers that I was working with when I did the math for the Beta Lotus, etc..). Although, the amount of people who showed up at the door would probably be more around 15-20 with the lower entry fee, so we'd have an estimated $525-$600 to work with.

That would be enough to cover some moxen/non-Lotus power 10 for the 2nd-4th place prizes and possibly an Unlimited Lotus for 1st place. Also, consider that I may not be able to talk Altered out of taking a cut of the entry fees.

I think it would be more important to have a successful event, rather than an event with a boombastic prize. Basically what I'm getting at is that I think we should try to make our first try at this to go as smoothly as possible. Let's not go overboard on the prizes this time around.

This way we can see how the event goes. If everything goes great, then we can start on the next one (perhaps make this a [semi]annual event) and aim a little higher on the prizes. Plus, once everyone hears how great this went, I'm sure the attendance for the next one will be larger allowing for bigger/better prizes.

As far as prizes go, I think we should list all the possible prizes along with their relative value and then sort of choose from the list based on the entry fee and attendance expected.

Obviously the community at large should decide, so this is just my "two cents".

With potential revenue of approximately $500 at $10 pre-reg, $15 at the door, the prizes would look something like this:

1st: worth about $200
2nd: worth about $150
3rd: worth about $100
4th: worth about $50

This also doesn't take into account that Altered will probably want a cut, which will probably be around $50, if I were to overestimate.

So I'd go with something more along the lines of:

1st: worth about $190
2nd: worth about $140
3rd: worth about $90
4th: worth about $40

So there are some numbers for everyone to work with. I don't ebay or anything, so I have no idea what's going for what these days. Just post what you'd like under those price parameters.

I think that going with either of the first two weekends is not going to allow for enough time, but that's just because I'm not an optimistic person.
