Here's the deal. We will run a big tournament in Toronto on January 19th guaranteeing at least 300 dollars in prizes - more depending on your responses. If we get enough responses to this we will increase the pot so all the entry fees go to the players. You will be able to choose your prize from our beta stock.
We would like at least thirty players - so post here so we can get this arranged.

I have sold all of my Magic cards, including my Power 9, and have played in maybe two competitive Magic tournaments since the last Hairy Tarantula tournament I attended. (Do you remember when that was, because I sure don't.) If I attend this tournament I will be playing a borrowed deck. Luckily, I have a couple of friends who still have their power. As I told Zherbus, although I no longer play Magic I am very interested in the addition of Cunning Wish to Keeper.

In addition to the tournament I wanted to make a trip up to Toronto to see if I could get some Bazaars of Baghdad and some of the new fetch lands for the next Bingeman's tournament. What are my chances of finding these cards?

Leon should have some Bazaars, i think. Fetchlands can be had but Flooded Strands are hard to find. Hope to see you there.

Every one ready for me to ROCK ya out of the tournament?

Well we played. Now here is the sad story. First the decks that made top four:
Pandeburst
Lam three color control
TnT by bebe
Falcon five color control

Both control decks are different enough not to warrant a particular descriptive known name  

I get to the tournament bringing TnT ( you know Workshops are somewhere in any deck I play other than Fish ). It is a little different from the net decks but you know me. Twenty-eight people show up most sporting power so it looks like this could be fun. I bump into Phil who usually plays TnT but is missing a few cards so he brought Reanimator. I tell him its cool if he he wants to try my build of TnT and he says sure. So I take the reanimator deck ( mistake number one - count along).

Lam expresses some concern. He knows I play Workshop decks well and have never played Phil's deck. He feels i might not be up to it ( mistake two - I laugh Lam off ). I then give Nevyn an Ankh Sligh deck so he can play too.

So first round I  get the mirror match and win both games with great Zombie Infestastion/Squee first turn draws. Hardly fair but you take what you get. I could not even use my Exhume as he filled his grave with Polar Krakens and Spirit of the Night. I got lucky and won.

I talk to the rest of the new Hairy T team. Phil ran over a control deck and Ankh Sligh does the same. It looks good.

I draw into a Sui deck. I never draw any reanimation spells my Bazzars are wasted and my other land falls to Sinkholes first game. I make a comeback second game with Zombie/Squee action and win for the Gipper. Third game I entomb a Phantom Nishoba ( here is mistake three - should have entombed a Verdant Force ). Well, I exhume and get Edcted. No problem. I'm slighly holding an Animate. I Animate. Edict again. Of course the Verdants would have survived the top decks but ... I lose. Phil wins again against a sligh and Nevyn loses a mirror match I think.  Team Hairy is not in good shape now.

I draw another sui deck. I make the same mistake again ( I had not cottoned to the Force - mistake number four) yet and lose again. Yikes. Both Phil and Nevyn win and I look bad. 1-2.

I figure I need to win out. Not to bore anyone I draw into an easy match twice and end up 2-2 quickly with very fast matches. I never even saw much of the decks I played. Meanwhile Nevyn is scrubbing out and cursing the Ankhs. Phil wins one with TnT and loses to the Pandeburst.

Well, the best Nevyn and I can do is go 3-2 each we we manage but Phil will top eight if he beats his next opponent. He does. So my deck makes it but I do not.  I loudly berate Phil's build of Reanimator which he defends but since we like each other who cares. Actually, I lost two winnable matches but the deck lacked the redundacy it needs and was mana light to boot.

 I tell him he spoiled my run and better make top four. He does by beating control.

So Phil is paired against Lam. Here is where things go bad. Phil has a Su Chi on the table and Lam has three lands and no critters and is at ten life. Phil attacks. Good then he plays Juggie. We all gasp. WTF. Of cfourse it is drained followed by Morph. Lam wins. I ask Lam if he would care to repeat the match against me. I beat him three games straight and learn my lesson. Play your own deck.  

Not that I'm sorry. It was fun playing Reanimator but TnT is so much more consistent.

In the end Pandeburst wins as Lam has no Crypts in his side to deal with a twelve counter Burst deck. The Burst deck was very well designed. No power that I saw and no fetches yet still competitive as any deck I've seen played. Basically it has

4 Pursuit of Knowledge
12 counters
2 Bazaars
3 Squee
Compulsions
SapBursts/Pandemoniums
Replenish
Search (intuition, FoF, etc.)

Compulsions and Squees were awesome in combo for this deck. Pursuit flat out bought enough time to win. I think he only played with four duals. Yet he beat a field of fully powered decks.

I talked to John ( owner 401) and he said he would run these tournaments third Sunday of the month for power cards as long as people show up in these numbers. I will post the next time when he soldifies the date and prize and entry fee.

Sorry that my reports are not more detailed but I am having fun and don't take notes.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it, it would have been interesting. Something else came up. I really want to attend the next one, and I should be able to bring a fully powered deck to boot!

Quick correction: I won my first two, and then lost the mirror and to the pandeburst deck (I don't believe it won the tourney!, it beat me because of turn 2 peace of mind/squees. Twice). The matches I won were suicide (played by a very inexperienced player), necro (sort of like MBC with corrupts and drains and not much else), and a B/U finkel control deck (again played by a newer player).

In short, I lost to the only two competent players I faced. Yay me. For the next tournament, I hope to have TN together and then they will feel the wrath.

BeBe, how the hell did Lam lose to pandeburst??

Remember that I said ther deck had twelve counters! Once he gets compulsion out and a Squee or  he draws three cards a turn with so much counter backup, plenty of land and even life gain if needed ( pursuit).
Lam had two - yes two Morphlings in game one and a Factory but he used Pursuit and Compulsion to eventually Replenish a win. That deck is awesome. The best build I've seen.
For the record I played the other top eight guys with Tnt AND BEAT THEM EASILY. I'm such a scrub for not playing it but Phil did fine. He felt bad about the one bad no0ob move the whole tournament against Lam and even Lam gave him shit. He wanted a clean win.

It's good to hear that something original showed up and won, and I heard it was someone new to the 401/Hariy T's scene that pulled it off. Hats off to whoever it was.
