How often do you have to play to keep your Vintage rating alive? I see several people on this list and my Cali list that I dont think have played T1 for several years. You know what would be fabulous? If that DCI rating thingy told the last date you played a format as well as your rating. That would be so cool. Back on topic (sorta): I thought Pat Chapin lived in Michigan and played in EDTs little T1 circle. I would have expected his T1 rating to be over 1800. And also sorta on topic: Here in NorCal you can play Thursdays at C&Js and maybe pick up a game Fridays at Games of Berkeley. I don't think that beats 3 sanctioned T1s every two weeks though. Bow to Binghamton, Capitol of T1.

Oh yeah. We totally rule.
We're not sanctioned though. Sanctioned Type 1 isn't REAL Type 1. We like our fresh meat to put up a fight, so we allow proxies.
Not to mention, we also have the Wednesday playtesting session in addition to the tournaments.

Bow to Binghamton, Capitol of T1. Regarding Pat Chapin, he's no longer listed in ANY rankings (Vintage, Standard, Limited, Composite) because for the next 6 months at least he is a employee of Wizards of the Coast. I have his Vintage rating bookmarked and now it shows nothing. Last time I looked he was rated about 1800-1850 I believe. Also, to answer another one of your questions, you do NOT have to keep playing to keep your number active. The players ranked #1 and #3 in Illinois (Ray DeGuzman and Andrew T Nishioka) have not had their Vintage ratings change over at least the past year and a half that I've been tracking these things. And to answer the Binghamton boys, Crazy Cards has been having at least one (sometimes two) SANCTIONED Vintage tourneys every week for at least the past 3 or 4 months, and one every couple of weeks before that.

That schedule pretty much sums it up for us too, except we're unsactioned so as to allow proxies and not let availability of cards/financial position supercede skill level. Oh yeah, we've been doing it for 3 YEARS, not months. Bitch.

Power don't win nothing at crazys. Yea I will admit we have had a few full powered decks win but we also have a strong metagame. Power or not some decks just win.
Just ask doublej20 about how he learned about Hypnox from the hand the hard way

You're right, power doesn't mean all that much. But being able to proxy it makes people feel less overwhelmed. Also, we allow proxying of any five cards, not just power, so it helps the environment to be optimal. People usually don't proxy anything besides new cards anyway.
Besides, we don't want to become Wizards' bitches either. We could run sanctioned events if we wanted to, we just don't want to go through all the trouble for nothing.
Our metagame is so diverse, its sickening. Sure, people have their pet decks that they like to play, but we all switch it up all over the place. The only decks that haven't been represented in the past two months are Nether Void and FEB.

I posted all local motels near the Con. The post is under Type 1 tournament reports & announments (Crazy Con). Quote That's a little presumptuous.
We play Type 1 at least once every week at our little store in Jerkwater, USA. Are you saying that you hold tournaments more than once per week? Just in 2002 we ran 84 sanction Type 1 (16K) tournaments, that an average of 7 a month & Type 1 has been played in tournament form for about a year & a half at our store. Quote We're not sanctioned though. Sanctioned Type 1 isn't REAL Type 1. We like our fresh meat to put up a fight, so we allow proxies. OK now you are starting to piss me off! Real type 1 is sanctioned Type 1 with real cards, Not proxies. We run average 84 sanctioned type 1 tournaments a year, with an average of 12 to 20 players. I guess that makes us the Type 1 Capital. Also At all the major (SANCTIONED) type 1 events, players from our store, make Top 8. Also at yesterday's Chicago Pro Tour MattDogg (a regualr at Crazy's) took first place. So if you think that you have what it takes to beat us, bring your Xerox copying power 9 butt down to CrazyCon's type 1. P.S. Whats the name of your store KINKO's copy center?

Quote OK now you are starting to piss me off! Heh. No need to get your feathers ruffled, sizzle chest. I'm just talking some harmless smack. Quote Real type 1 is sanctioned Type 1 with real cards, Not proxies. Actually, REAL Type 1 involves every player having an optimal deck, and not being limited to what they can actually acquire. Hey, if you like having an advantage over your scrubs that doesn't involve skill, then more power to ya chief. We like our scrubs to be as nasty and vicious as they can be. Fact is, if you allow proxies, then the field is all that much more even and the competition is better. Quote At all the major (SANCTIONED) type 1 events, players from our store, make Top 8. Out of all the major Type 1 events that our crew attends in the North East, we ALWAYS put players in the Top 8 and often Top 4. We also WIN PRIZES often. Quote So if you think that you have what it takes to beat us, bring your Xerox copying power 9 butt down to CrazyCon's type 1. First off, the Binghamton Crew doesn't proxy. We're all fully powered and our power is real. You should also address this challenge to multiple "Xerox copying power 9" butts, since I'm writing checks that our whole crew's butts will cash all up in your bank. Secondly, we don't just allow proxying of the Power 9. We allow people to proxy anything. We do this for our scrubs. Our scrubs are like rabid babies with sporks; they're vicious, ornery and bloodthirsty. Thirdly, sorry chief, we've got other plans. In particular, we must attend TMD Northeast Championship on March eighth. Perhaps another time. P.S. The name of our local KINKO's Copy Center is, in fact, KINKO's Copy Center. Go figure. The names of our stores where we play Type 1, however, are Fat Cat Books and Centerfield Cards and Comics.

Hey klown i didn't mean to come on stronge, but when it comes to my shop & players I am a real HOT HEAD & have been knowen to have a short fuse. I've been at this buisness for almost 7 years & when someone challanges / talks crap / or questions my store I will be the first to step up.
As far as allowing proxies to level the playing field for scrubs : our scrubs have more power then our best players . about 75% of the tournament winners only have 1 mor 2 mox's & the last place players are running $1000 decks.
Maybe next year you can come down. good luck at TMD Northeast Championship on March eighth, now I have to get going or I will be late for my anger management classes. LOL

Well here at Fat Cat's we ALSO run a "Deck Clinic" EVERY Wednesday where the scrubs can come and learn how to use that power : ). I challenge everyone at Crazy Cards to come to Binghamton and battle it out with our crew. It would be nice to get some fresh meat to gnaw on.

YES!!! Our Shop now has a rival (Team Crazy vs Binghamton Boy's) this post is getting fun. We have a busy year ahead of us @ Crazy Card & Comics but I accept your challenge, maybe we can do this in the middle or end of the year, but I need you to answer some questions first.
1. Team size ( I like a 12 man team ). 2. Are pro's allowed. 3. NO PROXIES. 4. What will be the tournament entrance. 5. And where is Binghamton. 6. It would be better if you guy's would come out here since my player's are touring this year. 7. Or even better a month before Gen Con we both submit A list of players ( an equal number of players ) & the team with the best record wins.
P.S. This post is all in fun.

It seems like this thread is straying off-topic a little. It's turning into a my store is better than your store. To be honest, the best store is ANY store that supports type 1.
A few months back, I was looking to get started in playing type 1. I played at GenCon for the last two years (the first year as an obvious newbie), but that had been my only exposure to tournament play. There was no place in my area that had type 1 tournaments. Then, I found Crazy Card & Comics in Lyons. It's nearly an hour away, but they regularly hold type 1 events, which was a big thing for me. I've been going to nearly every tournament since then.
On the issues of proxies or not, I say whatever works for the store. Obviously, for DCI-sanctioned events, there can't be proxies. You can give scrubs power, but that doesn't mean that they will know how to use it properly, because most good decks don't work on autopilot. On whether it's worth sanctioning events or not, I have to say that at least some people at DCI and possibly Wizards have to process the sanctioned tournament results, so at least someone knows that there is regular type 1 interest around. Whether they do anything about it is another issue altogether.
Back on topic with Crazy Con. I'm sure that it is going to be an exciting weekend. If I am correct, I believe the type 1 event is only the featured attraction. There is probably going to be a number of drafts and other magic events as well as other non-magic events. (It might be helpful to have a schedule of events available.) Chances are, there will also be the normal type 1 event at the store the next day. I'm sure this will be a fun-filled weekend.

I have been playing at crazy card for a long time now. I think that sanctioned T1 tournaments are better than non sanctioned tournaments because A. Wizards will take Type 1 more seriously B. it increases the level of competition between players. Mark Rosewater said it himself,"The reason there are not more Type 1 tournaments is that there’s not evidence that the public as a whole wants more Type 1 tournaments. But please, show us data that says otherwise. The more you play sanctioned Type 1 play, the more attention we will pay to it." As for the Binghamton Boys all I have to say is bring it!Anyway I am looking forward to Crazy Con and seeing new skillful type 1 players there. The weekend is going to have some good times.
Peace Out, Manuel

my store has 2 t1 events a week, pretty competitive (1/4th-1/2 powered)metagame, and I thought i had the best vintage rating in my state, but my buddy jeff has #1. seems that the report kid screwed up horribly, and ive only played in 2 events since september. *oops* in reality, i've played in 9, top 8'd all, and won 5.

Binghamton is up in NY somewhere. Bout an hour down from Syracuse? Atleast I think I passed it going up there over break.
Had I known about these tournies, I woulda popped in for one. All I managed was a trip to Altered States, and a look at their overpriced cards.
