Right on Zherbus, who says Keeper can't beat GAT
Thanks to BilltheDuck for organizing the tournament and everyone who came and made this event a success. It was great meeting a lot of TMDers and seeing the CT crew again.

Here are the pics http://moobius.com/magic/pics/20030315Hadley/(Keep in mind, these are all the pics, even the ones that turned out shitty, unedited. I might play around with em later) The whole IAmFishMan vs SummonSaugen is a taco eating contest, whoever can eat 10 fastest, ray won by a lot. The second to last pic is master tap, he didn't want me to take a picture, but I did and I put it online. overall the resolution turned out bad. It must have been the lighting, because they normally come out better.

that taco eat-off between ray and ben was the coolest and the grossest thing i've seen in a while. it was good meeting jeff (samite healer) even though he whooped my ass (gorilla shaman ownz). despite this, i did manage a t8 with a steaming pile of $#!t. overall a good turnout, lots of fun, and rock'n tunes courtesy of one nick t.

Good job jeff, What are you using in your build to combat GAT and Ankh sligh, it seems that when i play keeper , about every aggro matchup is a bad one. Just curious as to your build.

Hey all, congrats jeff on winning it, you played well.
Anyways, I am still convinced the the GAT/Keeper matchup is in togs favor by a decent amount. I was the tog player in the Hadley touney and I beat 2 keepers throughout the day, and the severity of the beating had my confident I could beat Jeff easy.
In our game, I dunno who might have watched it or not, Jeff drew THE BEST I have ever seen keeper draw. I mean after GAT gets hit with waste-waste-strip-yawgmoths will-strip it rolls over and dies. Nevermind while hes getting away with ancestral recalls up the ass. I got outcountered by keeper, which is a big . But I'm not being a poor sport, just saying the deck flexed its broken muscles against me and others.

He was on fire against the sea of aggro-control that is Hadley (I really am suprised to see no TnT in the T8.). Gro-a-Tog isn't that hard of a matchup games 2 and 3, but 1 Gro-a-Tog typically makes Keeper its bitch. While I wouldn't go as far as saying Gro-a-Tog is better than Keeper by a large margin, it is certainly a rough road but entirely winnable.
Gro-a-Tog SHOULDN'T expect to take all of its games away from a good Keeper player. It'll roll a shitty Keeper player, but what wont? It really sounds to me like a combination of Jeff playing well and Gro-a-Tog players getting overconfident with all the hype lately. Gro-a-Tog players aren't invincible yet, in fact more people are prepared for them because of the hype.
3Libras, are you serious? I don't mean to be insulting in anyway, but how is every aggro matchup a bad matchup with Keeper?

Healer played about a hundred Swords against my Fish. Some of them said Diabolic Edict at the top, some said Red Blast, one of them said Vindicate, one even said Disenchant, but still. He was packing a buttload of removal. What I'm assuming was 5 Strips was also excellent. Gro can't Gush with 1 or fewer Islands on the table. I'll be interested to see a decklist.
I gave him his only game loss of the day, courtesy of a cheesy $2 artifact from Weatherlight, but otherwise my deck just bowed down before the awesomeness of his fully black-bordered, totally teched out monstrosity.
Both games 2 and 3 I first turn Extracted The Abyss. What does anybody think of that? Should I have gone for one of his two Morphlings? Sideboarded in something more useful? Lords and Thieves never stayed on the table.

Quote (spin13 @ Mar. 16 2003,10:26)Was that a picture of Jarad playing Keeper? Wow. Yep, that is Jarad playing keeper even after he vowed to never play keeper in his life. What a bag @ j_orlove: Those two guys in the 2nd game you linked to were not in the tournament. They showed up thinking it was a normal tournament day, so rather than go home they stuck around for a while and played some casual games.

@pernicious dude
I can't help but notice that you play a deck named after a Dr. Seuss book, you look like the artsy typt (no offense) and you write tourney reports in short poem like verse...I think it is awesome...when I read your reports I can imagine them being sung to a hymn (not of the tourach type)

Great tournament! It was great to meet so many TMDers as well. Sigh, losing to the mirror after making the top 8 sucks, but oh well. Kerzkid11 played really well all three of those games...but both of us agreed that the tog mirror match is not fun at all. Overall, I think my GAT played very well, with the exception of getting reamed by BillTheDuck's EBA.
MAINDECK BERSERK WAS THE BOMB! It won me so many matches that day...and for some reason, no one expected it.
Props to Samite Healer for having such pretty Beta Duals (and for going the distance with keeper) , Kerzkid11 for getting out all four of his Dryds and proceeding to smash my face in with them, and BillTheDuck for proving just how good four maindeck StPs are against GAT.
Slops for my name not being on any of those pics I'm the tall-dark-and-handsome guy with the phat playmat and pimped GAT deck

@Zherbus: There was only one TNT deck there yesterday. There are only three people that play there who have the ability to play it: Keith-ctthespian (who played keeper,) Me- (played over-rated-atog,) and Scott (TMD name?)
Scott went 4-2 on the day coming in around 10th or 11th. Not sure who he lost his first match to, but I beat him in a really close, well fought match that almost hit the five turns.
@Mith: Moobius put those pictures up at like 2am the other night so he didn't have time to make captions for all. I'll make sure we get your name up there soon

Well, Jeff has the cards to play TnT, but I think we can safely agree that he was right to go with Keeper.

Eh, I really do think that people are adapting to Tog. Its a good deck, but its perfectly beatable now, and will become more so as people refine answers. I don't think it will do anything as drastic as push decks out of viability or win every tournament. As I've said before, the deck hasn't even won very many tournaments.

@ Pernacious Dude -
Nice Pic, Hehe... That was an INSANE game. That turn i duressed out his only non land card (mis-d) , hit a number of gushes, and yawg will with a timewalk in gave. He rapidly scoops . Nice game man, GAT mirror just sucks. A lot. Also, notice my deck box (Picture of Little Rhody W00t! ) , the lucky magic shirt , adn the techy non-pimped GAT. You might not be able to notice it in the shadows of my opponets bb duals and power .
@ Billtheduck - I agree with what you have been saying about GAT. Its certainly a strong deck but not everything it has been hyped up to be. Like you said in hadley, TNT won a hell of a lot of tourneys when it was first out too. People don't know how to play against it yet.
@ Mith - Uber props man, amazing match, and well played tourney. Almost hated to win that one.

I like his deck a lot. We played a game for grins when we ID'd in, and he dropped a turn 1 Spiritmonger. Met him again Top 4 and it wasn't quite so happy.
Second game he surprised me with a turn 2 Tempting Wurm. I had one land in play. I put down a Fairie Conclave, Lord Of Atlantis, Manta Riders, Curiousity on the Riders, and thing he wasn't expecting, Tradewind Rider. It was a bit of a gamble, because he could drop and pop Deed with a Dark Ritual and take out a bunch of my stuff. Of course, he'd lose the Wurm and I 'd keep the Tradewind while bouncing the Curiousity, so I wasn't too worried. He played land #3 and the obvious Deed next and I bounced it EOT. His deck proceeded to withhold land #4 indefinitely while I drew cards like a mad thing and whittled away at his life total. I did take two hits from the Wurm but then it went away.

ok, i'm little late in replying , but ankh sligh , fish, tog (which seems more like a combo deck to me) and TNT and mask (which aren't present where i play) all seem like bad matchups.

3libras, your name is a good song, but I think you're confused. What are you talking about? Are you referring to the B/G deck, Groatog, EBA or did you reply to the wrong thread?
Edit: Oops, never mind I got it.
Edit 2: Looks like Jeff did too.
