Fairfax, VA - Huge type 1 tournament

1st prize - excellent condition alpha ancestral recall

2nd prize - 1st choice of either Morphling, 2 foil psychatog, or 4 foil gush.

3rd prize - 2nd choice of either Morph, the shiney togs or the gushes.

4th prize - the left overs.

Sunday April 13th, at high noon at BC Comics in Fairfax, VA.

Each player may proxy any five cards.  Entry is $22.

Come out and support the best format in the game!!

BC Comics is located at University Mall across the street from George Mason University at 10647 Braddock Road at the intersection of RT. 123 (Ox rd.) and Braddock Road in Fairfax.  They can be reached by phone at (703)-250-6479.

Just as an aside, I personally am hoping that we get a nice turnout.  This is the very first Type 1 event to be held in the area and if it does well, it won't be the last.  It is unsanctioned but that is because most of the locals are 1.5 players who lack P9, and, let's be honest, what fun is type 1 if no one is packing power?  So any five cards can be proxied.  The tourney is going to be a HELL of good time, especially for me since i'm going to win, hope to see you there!!\n\n

Hells yeah.  Sunday T1, that's what I'm talkin about.  I'll drive up from Fredericksburg to be at this one, most likely.

I would be interested in playing for an Alpha Ancestral, but Sunday is a bad day since I live in NY.

In the future if you want to have a large turnout you might want to consider having the big prize tournament on a saturday to provide amble travel time for people coming from other states to play.

Wish you well with your event.

I'll see ya there Sunday, gentlemen. Tell your friends and bring more heads, Marc has said that if enough people show, there will be some additional gifts. Be it a trip to Hooters or live dancers during the tournament, I don't know. But hey, I'm up for finding out.

I'll probably be there, as I don't have any rapier events that day.

I should be there unless something unforeseen comes up...I can use another BB Ancestral.  While I'm not crazy about the Proxy rule (or non sanctioned) I can completely understand the reasoning behind it.

I will be there with about 4-5 people.

Why $22 may I ask?

How many are you expecting to turn out for this?  I know the first place is the Ancestral, what are the other prizes?

@Triple_S: We're expecting a turnout of 30 or so.  And the field should be fairly diverse with the 5 proxy rule.  I left some flyers at Richmond comix over the weekend and tried to get the word out about the tourney in person.  Of course, we definately want as high a turnout as possible.  My true goal is to turn NoVa into a hot bed of type 1.  NoVa will be the next huge power center that shifts the entire vintage metagame based on the tech that is born here...or some shit.

Either way, this tournament is going to kick major ass!  There have been additional prizes announced:

1st prize - is still an excellent condition alpha ancestral recall (arguably the best draw spell ever printed)

2nd prize - Morphling (arguably the best creature ever printed)

3rd prize - 2 foil Psychatog (also arguably the best creature ever printed)

4th prize- 4 foil Gush (also arguably the best draw spell ever printed)

And to top all that off, i'll be there to hand out beatings with 1/1 fliers that untap lands when they come into play!  What more could you ask for?

Also, I'm going to take this opportunity to throw some dirt in the face of any paragon that thinks they're making top 4:

Just to make things more interesting, I will personally give one dollar to anyone that 2-0's any member of team paragon.

See you at high noon on Sunday the 13th!

And with that, i bid all of you good luck Wink

I am going to talk to a few friends and possibly roadtrip it down there.

Only question is though, if you are expecting around 30, and entry fee is $22.00, that is a total of $660.00. I mean, im all for stores getting some money for running tourneys, but an Ancestral is worth around 220-250 tops if its in very nice shape.

Will they add other nice prizes if you get around 30?

Its looking kinda iffy, but I'll try my best to make it.  5-proxy rule should be interesting.

Do folks find lotsa control in proxy-allowed tourneys?  Gotta figure out the most appropriate deck-of-the-week.

@dan_hellspawn: The more the merrier dude!  The better this thing does, the more likely it will be that we do this again.  And I wouldn't be suprised if the prize support gets even better with with a higher turnout than expected.

Either way, i'm offering money for paragon heads.  And believe me when I say it will be the most satisfying dollar you will ever make.  Beating paragons is like eating potato chips, you can't beat just one.

Your prize structure is all  screwed up.  Morphling should be the 4th place prize.  I would take 2 foil togs or 4 foil gushes over a single morphling any day.

Yeah, no kidding! I am intentionally aiming for 3rd or 4th place if I don't feel I can win the whole thing. I have like a billion Morphlings.

Great minds think alike, I noticed the same and pointed it out to the store owner.  SO, slight change in plan, the new prize structure will be the following:

1st prize - is still an excellent condition alpha ancestral recall

2nd prize - 1st choice of either Morphling, 2 foil psychatog, or 4 foil gush.

3rd prize - 2nd choice of either Morph, the shiney togs or the gushes.

4th prize - the left overs.

@CrazyCarl: I suppose if you want to get technical yes, contract from below is > ancestral recall, and if tog could run contract it would also certainly be > gush.  But ante?  I totally forgot there was such a thing.  I mean, when was the last time any of us ante'd anything?

Given this correction to the prize structure, that won't be necessary anymore.  Though realistically you'll still have to be aiming for less than 1st place, YOU can't honestly expect to win, not with me there  Wink

Exeter, I've got plenty of beatings for everyone, but you'll have to get in line behind sliverking and azhrei.  When i'm done with them quickly move to your right and allow them to pass so they can run home to mama, and then i'll be happy to hand you your ass as much as you'd like  \n\n

I notice you don't mention handing out severe beatings to me since my 1st turn 5/3s and 4/4 do a happy German Beer Hall Dance all over the heads of your whimpy little 1/1 flying people of alternative sexual orientation.
