I would like to try this type of deck, have read a little about it, but no much, I guess my question is, how does it work the best and what deck ideas are out there.  I don't have any moxes or lotus, so help me out with the land.  And is this a good deck for Type 1 or what?  Thanks

Just SEARCH for "Quirion Dryad" to find all the relevant threads.

Instead of the Moxen just use more basic Islands. This is a deck where Mox and/or Lotus are not as necessary as in other decks (although it would still benefit, of course). The new Fetchlands are highly recommended as well, you can run up to 6 of them, maybe even more.

this isn't exactly light reading, but here is a link to one of the versions of dryad called 'emerald alice' (created by rogue and pegasus token): emerald alice

also, this link covers a conversation between pat chapin (gro's biggest proponent) and some other vintage players pat's argument for gro

for reference, here's the deck i've been playing the past few weeks.  it uses the oath conversion of alice, but the maindeck is slanted a bit more towards chapin gro:

mana base (20):
4x tropical island
1x wooded foothills (i'm getting more soon as these are much better than land grants)
4x land grant
1x sol ring
1x strip mine
1x forest
8x island

critters (9):
4x quirion dryad
2x ophidian
2x wearbear
1x morphling

counters (15):
4x counterspell (mana drains if you've got em)
4x force of will
3x misdirect
2x mana leak
1x disrupt
1x divert

draw/search (13):
4x gush
3x impulse
2x brainstorm
1x merchant scroll
1x ancestral recall
1x fact or fiction
1x sylvan library

removal (3):
3x powder keg

sideboard (15):
4x oath of druids
2x gaea's blessing
1x spike weaver
1x spike feeder
1x woodripper
(the rest is highly dependent on your metagame)
2x compost
1x naturalize
3x back to basics

there's also supergro (which splashes white, has more creatures and no oath board).  this handles some matchups better than alice/chapin, like perhaps TnT and Sui, but in general is not as good.  happy hunting.

thanks grand inquisitor, how does the deck handle against more of a casual play?  I have a pretty scrubby metagame, not much but some crappy sligh, hand des. and a couple of alright blue counters.  Not much happening around here though.

Please note that the deck was created by Rogue and Acolytec initially and that though I had some to do with the development and consider myself to be somewhat of an "expert" on the deck (now), I am not one of the creators.

I play a variation of gro in my casual playgroup. It fares very well against control and combo decks, but often really fast aggro is too much to deal with. It's also a REALLY bad deck for multiplayer. Hand destruction and discard effects shouldn't be too much of a problem with misdirection, counters and gush to protect you (you may want to consider using daze as well). If you're mostly playing casual and multiplayer, you might want to consider using trade secrets. good luck
