The x spells without moxen

Hi, I was wondering if the x spells are worth it without the acceleration of moxen and lotus. Are they worth it only with the power of Mana drain?
I sometimes find myself in a position to mind twist my opponent but him, has already played all his hand if it's aggro or I'd loose the counterwar over twist if it's control.
