Hello all,

I have been looking around Los Angeles for the past couple months and haven't ran into a good store with type I tourneys or even a local play group.

It seems many in this forum are from the east coast, but I thought I would at least ask.  If you know anyone who plays or might be interested in another member, please let me know!   (tfrank@ucla.edu)

<I live near the 405-10 interchange>

Thanks!

well, i know the type 1 players from orange county came down here to SD because its the closest good type 1 tourney that they had, and they are pretty close to LA.  so, if you want some competition, you might as well make the track down here and have a go

Thanks for the reply.  I guess I should have made myself more clear in my post.  Where, specifically can I find a good type I group or shop.

If you suggest 2 hours south in san diego, then be specific please.  If you know of a place near LA or OC, please leave a store name or an email or phone number so I can get in touch with them.

Thanks!

actually, i think alot of the people from OC that came to SD quit because of one of them moving.  so i dont think they can help you there.  and since i dont live in LA, i dont know any stores or groups you can tech up with.  be specific in coming down to SD? um, dunno what you want to hear, but i will just tell you the locations of type 1 tourneys here.  one is WOTC at Plaza Bonita Mall, its sanctioned and 5$ enterance.  this one goes on at saturdays, however, i suggest you call the store since the holidays these ones have been flakey(altho i hear its gonna be on this saturday ( feb 1st? ) ).  the other is at dons, which is located in balboa parks chess club.  this one allows proxies and is thus not sanctioned, however there is cash prizes, usually around 15-25$.  hope this helps

  I play in san clemente which is in orange county...
My group is at my house with friends, usually every other week.

You probably wont be interested in driving down here in traffic, but I will send an email anyway.

Quote Hey, I just wanted to let everybody know, Frank and Sons is going to be holding it's next Sanctioned T1.  It's going to be Saturday, the 10th, at 11:30.  Entry Fee= $5, with another $50 guaranteed 1st prize.  We had 24 people for the last one, with much of the field being partially powered, so plan accordingly.

Hope everybody can make it out for another great showing.

Well to answer my own post from a long time ago, there is a tourney coming up in two weekends.  If there are any others from Los Angeles, you might want to check this out.

Tracer, I plan on coming...  Could you please give an idea about the metagame?  (some sort of deck breakdown?)

Thanks.

Hey,

Sup, I'm from LA, about 10 minutes east of Downtown L.A. in San Gabriel Valley.  Yah come down to the tourney.  As a matter of fact you can head to Frank and Son's every Wednesday and Saturday.  On Wed it's 3-9 and on Sat it's 9-5.  I'm usually down there along with a couple of the other TMD guys.  If you head down there just ask the magic vendors where Ben is.  BTW i'm Ben lol.  I'm usually hanging out in the vendor booth thats the second one from the right end.  The one run by two asian guys.  The meta is something along the lines of 40% sligh with like half of that being scrubs and half of that being pretty good sligh players.  The last tourney had like 25% of the decks being powered.  There was a keeper, a few GAT a few Oath masknought and some other random decks.  Msg. me on AIM if you want to know more info, my sn is Imported8317
