Hello class, Today I am going to talk to you about a very controversial card in a deck we all love…R/G Beatz. So the card that has been nominated for the most controversial is…. Wheel of Fortune. Many of you have now decided that this card does not belong in R/G Beatz. I’m sure that you have not decided that randomly and that after your testing that is the conclusion you came to. However I have come to a different conclusion. Here is my decklist for reference.
Creatures: 4x Kird Ape 4x River Boa 4x Skyshroud Elite 4x Wild Mongrel 4x Basking Rootwalla Enchantments: 4x Rancor 1x Sylvain Library Other: 4x Lightning Bolt 4x Incinerate 1x Berserk 1x Regrowth 1x Wheel of Fortune Artifacts: 3x Cursed Scroll Land/Mana: 4x Mishra’s Factory 4x Taiga 4x Wooded Foothills 2x Forest 1x Mountain 3x Wasteland 1x Stripmine 1x Lotus Petal 1x Mox Diamond
Sideboard: 4x Red Elemental Blast 4x Naturalize 3x Null Rod 4x Hidden Gibbons
After numerous games and searching, I have found Wild Mongrels to be an excellent card. They can get pumped into fearsome beats, and can get past Circle of Protection Green. And if ever you are lucky to get a berserk and it is Rancored, well you just about won the game. Now, I am not here to talk to you about the wondrous plays I have been able to make with Mongrels, no, I am here to talk to you about the wondrous plays I have made with Wheel. If you cast a wWeel, it is meaning that you are generally winning nicely, or in despair. Either way this helps very nicely. The three mana that you need to cast may be a little harsh, but you will most likely draw at least one land, which you can play, and then use to cast just about another card in this deck. Now, this would be for a normal R/G Beatz, without mongrels. However in mine, with mongrels, I love pitching my hand to Mongrel, Rancor it, then cast a Wheel, and draw a whole new hand of seven cards with the potential of over seven extra damage if you do not cast anything. If on top of that, one of the cards you get is a Berserk, well need I say more? In my opinion the reason why Wheel is so overlooked, is because you have less Land to abuse the advantages of it, however if you cast the Wheel and it goes through, chances are, your opponent wont even start to abuse his new hand. Besides, if you are playing a parfait player, which likes keeping his hand full, a Wheel is just the same as a Scroll/Tax, but is affecting you to. Not only that, but a parfait player, will probably not be happy to pitch cards, just for a Scroll/Tax effect during some other players turn. This is just one example of a game where Wheel is useful. What happens when you are playing Sui? They have a nice hand, but not enough mana to empty it in the first few turns. Do you think they will be happy of having to discard there hand to draw seven new cards of which they know you will draw some burn to throw at their Negators? This may just be my opinion, but do you guys not think that it deserves another chance? Jamino
