Hello Everyone,

This is my first post and i hope its a good one.  Just a few things i want to say before the decklist.

I started playing magic before Tempest came out in 1997 and have played off and on since then.  I'm more competitve now than when i started and really don't like any of the formats magic has out right now except vintage.  Since i've been coming to this site and reading multiple threads in the vintage forums, i have really come to enjoy type 1.

Here's the decklist...Draw-Go

Draw/Tutor

1x Intuition
4x Accumulated knowledge
1x Ancestral recall
1x Time walk
1x LoA
1x Windfall
1x Merchant scroll
3x Cunning wish

Control/Disruption

4x FoW
4x Mana drain
4x Counterspell
4x Stifles
1x Misdirection
3x Nevinyrral’s disk

Misc.

Kill

3x Morphling

Mana Base

12x Islands
4x Rishadan port
3x Faerie enclave
1x Mox sapphire
1x Black lotus
1x Lotus petal
1x Mox diamond
1x Chrome mox

I'm not sure about the sb since i'm a newbie to vintage but would probally include wish targets, energy flux, BeB, CotV, and i don't know what else, meta dependant.

I would just like some help to criteque the deck, thnxs.

Since your deck is already packing 3 Cunning Wishes and 4 AKs, why not add some Isochron Scepters? If nothing else it lets you run off color solutions to scepter, like Ebony Charm or Swords to Plowshares in the SB.

I'd also reduce the Morphling count by 1. 2 Morphlings are more or less standard for those decks that still use Morphling for the kill. Depending on the amount of aggro in your meta, Masticore might also be a good choice in one of these slots.

Your mana base is rather weak. The odd mana accelerators seem a bit off, so if possible I'd pull them for the off color Moxen and Sol Ring. Doing so would allow you to run Mana Leak over Counterspell, and let you to counter turn 1 without wasting a Force. Rishadan Port is inferior to Wastelands while the Faerie conclaves are dying to be Mishra's Factories. Making only colorless mana is likely less of a drawback that coming into play tapped, especially if you switch over to mana leaks.

I understand that you're trying to maximize your blue sources so as to get Counterspell mana up turn 1, but it's just not going to happen as often as you can get Mana leak up. What it amounts to is that Mana Leak gives you a strong early game, while counterspell gives you a marginally stronger late game. Seeing as how Draw-Go types decks are weakest in the opening few turns, I'd try the Leaks to shore up your major weakness as much as possible.

A final note is that Windfall is rather weak in a control deck. I'd replace it with a Mystical tutor to fetch AK #4 or Ancestral. It'll let you draw nearly as many cards as Windfall will, but your opponent doesn't benefit from it. You might also want to look into Urphid or Scepter control. Both are more or less evolutions of the old skool mono-U decks.

EDIT: Welcome to the Mana Drain.

Thnxs for the advice so far.  These are the changes i'm going to make then;

-1 morphling
-1 windfall
-1 lotus petal
-1 mox diamond
-1 chrome mox
-3 faerie enclaves
-4 counterspell
-1 misdirection
-4 rishadan port

+3 mishara's factories
+4 off-color moxen
+1 mystical tutor
+4 mana leak
+1 masticore
+2 wasteland
+1 strip mine
+1 island

I believe thats all the changes you suggested and they seem good, i'm new to vintage so.  I'm just wondering so i can understand vintage better, why factroy over enclave, strip over port.  Also i took out misdirection for another mana source and i added a island cuase i felt 12 a little low having taken out the odd mana producers and putting in the off color moxen.

Another thing i was wondering if merchant scroll should stay, its not an instant but it fetchs anything in the deck which is some good.

I really want this to be draw go so i'm not sure about scepter, it seems pretty good if your a smart player, carl uses it.  If i can build an effective deck without then i will if its a must to win then it'll change.  I want to see if i can bring draw go in its purest form to  current vintage.

Any help with the board or is this really meta dependant?  What wish targets are must haves?

Honestly, wishes in monoU are a little weak. I am a MUCH bigger fan of u/r. This might be against what you want, but it gives you tons of awesome stuff to wish for.

In monoU I might replaces wishes with impulse or such.\n\n

Factory comes into play untapped,
activates for half the cost and none of it colored,
blocks and kills a 2/2 while surviving,
and a second pumps the first the turn you play it.
Conclave flies and doesn't die to Disenchant/Naturalize.

You don't want that Library Of Alexandria or Bazaar Of Bagdhad tapped.
You want it gone.
Even against Mishra's Workshop, where tapping it during upkeep would be good enough,
you don't want to tie up two of your own mana sources every turn to make that happen.
Just kill the damned thing.

Disk and Morphling is not a combo.
Perhaps Powder Keg?

Ak is not an acceptable draw engine in Draw-Go ... its just way to slow without Merchant Scrolls backing it up, so you will probably want 2 in the SB. Try Scepters or Phids.

Cunning Wish is fine in Mono-U, Stifle, Misdirection, Stroke, Hurkyl, BEB, Boomerang are enough targets to warrant its inclusion IMO.

Where are your Back to Basics? Its the only reason to run a Mono-U deck. Play 4 of them split between the MD and SB, non-basic Land Hate is super important in T1.

pernicious dude: Disk is an acceptable choice because it is a good way to use up excess mana drain mana.  Also, the disk id extremely effectively in the workshop prison matchup.

Yes, let's use a four cost CIPT artifact against goblin welders and tangle wires and smokestacks.  Brilliant.

Powder Keg may not wipe the board, but it takes out Welders at the same hits play-->usage speed as Disk.  Likewise, it leaves your junk untouched and can be realistically cast.

Oh, and Energy Flux exists.  You should definately take advantage of that fact if you're concerned about workshop.
