I don't see how winning Power is good if unlimited proxies are allowed. I'd rather get cash.

I don't see how winning Power could ever be bad..

You run a once-a-month proxy tourney, and then a once-a-quarter non-proxy tourney with a larger prize. Winning the Power is then not only "not bad", but genuinely useful.

I think the top 8 at Smmenen's unlimited proxy tournament yesterday demonstrates decisively that at least 10-15 proxies are needed for a truly high quality event.

Just one question. How do you mark Proxies for such a tournament. Are you taking a card and write the name on? How can you control that all?

What are you doing when someone wants to proxy a sharaazad/Chains of M or something other with a strange wording?

Do you think its fair to take more money from players who use proxies than from them without?

Well, if you would rather have cash, think about it this way.

Months back when moxes were 150, and if you got the cash equal, you had 150

If you would have kept the power, the payout now is in the mid 200's.

There was one random person who from the looks of it, had like every card except for the basic Island in his Tog deck proxied up.  Other than that, the proxies were really just for like Workshops, power, and Darksteel cards, since this tourney was Darksteel legal despite the fact that the set just came out for sale that weekend (so naturally the store didn't even have a lot of the cards that people needed, like Oxidize or Trinisphere.)

On the topic of old cards with weird rulings, it's not even like the physical cards would work there since the Oracle wordings on those cards are usually very different from what the cards themselves say anyway.

And at worst, you just sell the cards.  The choice was a Mox or $200.  I obviously took the Mox and then sold it for $250 (granted I did this so I could do a prize split with a teammate.)

Anyone else have different/similar experiences?

Hi I just want to tell what happens here in Italy, cause from what I've seen on this topic our tournaments are really different.
We make no proxy tournament, every people must play with hi cards; it's important to say that we're about like a very big group of friends so very often happens that a player lend also spoilers to a friend o to a player that he knows, but that doesn't mean we have small or scrubbish tourney, in oura tournaments about half players are good players.
To incite new and unspoilered players we have estabilished a price for the best unspoilered player of the tournament, however spoilered players are always about 60%/70% of the total players of the tournaments.
We're lucky we succed in creating a big group of players on north Italy from the biggest cities, normally we makes tournaments of 60/70 people, in some case like the big tournaments that we makes in massa carrara we reach 110, 139... people and were always tournaments of high level, with some guests from around europe, next of them Carl Devos will come.
I don' know what usually are your prizes, we always have a p9 and some other good stuff from 2 place to 8°, this sunday for example we had 1 timetwister for the 1° 1 bazaar of baghdad for the 2° and some other prices like dual or foils till 8° place plus a prize for the best unspoilered deck.
For the biggest events (massa carrara as i told before is usually the one with most players) we have a lot of prices, for example 21 march we will have:
1) Ancestral Recall Beta (Ex-Nm)
2) Mishra's Workshop
3) The Abyss Legends
4) Fork Beta
5) Sinkhole Alpha
6) Dual Land
7) Dual Land
8) Dual Land
9) Fetchland
10) Fetchland
11) Fetchland
12) Fetchland
13) Fetchland
14) Fecthland
15) Fetchland
16) Fetchland

SPECIAL PRICES

- Mox Ruby Beta played for the best player without p9 in his deck
- Cursed Scroll for the second player without p9 in his deck
- 3 cups of the tournament for the best three players.

Feel free to comment or to ask anything to pur tournaments
bye
