An open letter to the MTGnews.com community.
Dear Visitors and Volunteers,
My name is Ray Yu, also known as DG, the owner of this operation. Some of you know me, some of you don’t. I have faded to the background of MTGnews.com for the past two years or so, focusing on keeping the machines running and keeping the site afloat financially. This is a letter, from me to you personally, announcing the closure of this operation. Due to some recent internal events, I have decided that it is no longer in my best interest, nor am I able to emotionally, to dedicate my time and effort to support this operation. This closure is not due to financial trouble but for reasons that I do not wish to discuss publicly.
Selling?
I will not be selling any piece of the website. You might think I am stupid for not doing so, but as attached as I am to the MTGnews.com identity, it would be like selling a piece of myself. I simply do not wish the MTGnews.com identity to be carried on by someone else. It is selfish, but I believe I have earned myself that bit of selfishness.
Forums Relocation
As a personal commitment and obligation to our users, I will be keeping the forums operational until February 28, 2004. Until such time, the head of staff, Stephan “Darth Cow” Hoyer, will be looking for a new host for the forums. Should you be interested, please contact him via email at darthcow at mtgnews dot com. I will be assisting in the transition if required. He will also be looking for a new host for Magic Radar, for that is his creation.
What about Ultimate Spoiler Generator?
As far as the Ultimate Spoilers Generator, interested parties in obtaining it can contact me directly at dg at mtgnews dot com for potential distribution of the source code. I reserve the right to reject any request for whatever reason. Do note that I will not be providing any card images for that is copyright violation.
In Closing...
I would like to personally thank every one of you in supporting our site over the years, especially those who have been with us since the beginning. I would also like to thank all current and previous volunteers for assisting in many aspects of its operations. I will not list names for fear of missing someone out. Without you guys we would have folded a long time ago. Lastly, thank you to all the advertisers that have supported us and hopefully we have helped you in your business.
It has been a long and emotional journey of over seven years since the inception of Land of Destoguardiana (original site name) in 1996. Internet sites come and go and I have stuck it out for this many years. We remained an advertisement supported free website while other sites have failed. It is time for me to close this chapter of my life and move on. I have gathered many fond and sad memories during these seven years. I will cherish them and they will be with me for the rest of my life, along with every one of you. I encourage all of you to gather your fond memories of this site and continue to energize the online Magic community with your support and enthusiasm.
DG is gone again, and this time he is not coming back.

While MTGnews is often the brunt of people's jokes, especially in regards to some of their strategy forums, this really sucks
. MTGnews was an integral part of the online Magic community. I myself was a moderator there for close to a year, and a member of their forums for over two years, and it pains me to see them go.
