I'd like to congratulate... virtual for being the 3cb #27 winner.  (maybe)

The calculations this time got very very tricky, so please double check your results.  (And mine  Very Happy  ).  I would/will not be surprised at any/many errors, or even just screw ups on the table.

We had no winners of the mise-prise. (All draws)  Confused

The best deck name is?  To be determined.  Please vote. If a deck had no name, I named it and tagged it with nbv.  Sorry if some of them aren't clever enough, you should've named them yourself.  Only the first 10 entrants get voted on, cause that's all the pole allows

How to read the table:
Match the deck# on the left with the deck # on top. Append a 1 for the last 5 decks. The #s on the right of that deck correspond to how many points that deck received versus the deck on top. (Once again append a 1 for the last 5. The 1's are missing to make the table more clear)

Standings:

1 virtual   76
2 Togran   65
  Tallngrumpy   65
3 pinky   64
4 timeBeing   62
5 Stijn   58
6 jhaverkamp   56
  Thorme   56
7 Matt   53
8 xirzzo   51
9 Dream_Merchant   50
10 r_x_   49
  Wicketsnatcher   49
11 kakeboy07   45
12 Dakid195   40
13 LotusHead   36
14 Jacob Orlove   25
15 Kowal   20
16 wonkey_donkey   12

Analysis.  City of Traitors was tech that just about everyone figured out.  That made the trinisphere effect not quite as worth while.

There were quite a few control decks this time, hosing what I thought would be the best deck:  Dreadnaught.

All in all, a very diverse meta-game.

We should possibly run this format again, banning artifacts.  That's my suggestion for the next one.

I won't be very active here for the next few days, as I have some company coming to visit for the weekend.  I'll check in, but I'll update it next week, and probably start the next.  (Thats why I rushed this out the door when I got the requisite number of entrants)

Thanks for playing.  Check your results!  Discuss.  Etc.
-Virtual

Edit:  Updated results table.  Please continue to verify.

jhaverkam and thorme should have gotten the same score, but one is 56 and the other is 65.

Looks like I'm getting better at this...top half, this time!

3 pinky Starsky.dec - Ghitu Encampment - Karakas - Starke of rath
vs
5 wonkey_donkey The nether regions - subterannean hangar - desolation - nether spirit

In both cases I drop Starke asap and hit him once with it before he drops the Nether Spirit. Now he can't attack me with the spirit or he'll lose the damage race.

2-2

Next time I'll not assume everyone's playing a very slow deck... I expected a bigger showing of manland.dec or jacob.dec (although I managed to miscount the number of turns needed to drop desolation in assuming I'd beat him).

There seems to be a certain amount of inconsistency with my placings in these things  Very Happy . Oh, and  Embarassed for coming last.

I'm not in favour of doing this format a second time in a row - not because of my finish, but because I'm not in favour of doing any format twice in a row. However, disallowing artifacts in this seems like a good idea, or maybe banning all lands that generate more than 1 mana at a time? Or how about "all spells or abilities that target anything are countered?"

Can`t believe i missed smokestack Smile

Maybe we could ban all artifacts from the next 3cb, but still have the Trinisphere + Upwelling?

I don't think artifacts are the big problem here.  I think City of Traitors is the main killer... essentially all artifacts cost 1/2 compared to regular colors.  I think there are TONS more unexplored options in this format, with artifacts.  I'd cast my vote for running this tournament again without City of Traitors.

And quality win with that smokestack... that was killah!  I know you are quite creative and will have a different deck next go around and I look forward to crushing it.*

Thanks again for running the tournament, I look forward to submitting another Serpent Deck!

*By "crushing" your deck I mean losing to it horribly.

I saw the possibility of using smokestack, but I thought it'd be too hard to abuse, good thinking with the teravus.

And how can people vote for xrizzo's deck having a cooler name than mine? It definitely hasn't........ nothing personal  Very Happy

I should have beaten Thrme in both games, he cant deal 20 to me before i get out the Crumbling Sanctuary.
Also, I should have beaten timeBeing in both games, I can always get the reactor out before he can because I get 2 mana per turn.

I think running this format again without artifacts is a great idea.  Thanks,

Gee, thanks...

I actually think my name is more interesting because it ties in the past 3CBs better.  Yours is simply about your current submission...

Ah well - at least my deck performed well in one respect.  Back to the drawing board for the next one...

Posted updates on the items so far.  Some people swapped places.  Do people like the deck-name competition?  I'm a fan (even though my pun has yet to get any results... I refused to vote for myself)  ((Does anyone get it))

I agree with we should run this format again, but ban artifacts.  Artifacts are fun in 3cb, but they really undiversify the format.  So, I guess start thinkin of ideas.  Don't submit yet cause I haven't come up with mine yet.  I'll announce when I'm taking submissions.

Even if you ban artifacts, City will be a problem, because it enables you to have 5 mana on turn 2.

City, tap (2)
Tap, (4), play island, tap (4U)

I say ban City, leave artifacts alone, and ban Ancient Tomb too, just in case.

What will you cast for 4U that will win the game?

You waste 2 of your cards just to drop a fast threat...

Does it even matter? Five mana on turn two is begging to be broken.

Damn, I read this too late. I thought up a great deck:

Lavaborn Muse
Viridian Shaman
Taiga

How about for the next cb3, you can only use cards from middle sets. I think that should signifigantly stir things up.
