If you don't mind driving an additional hour north, I'm pretty sure I'll have a place to crash.  My house is built for five people, and I'm pretty much the only person that lives here.  If you guys are cool with crashing here I might as well make a party out of it.

I assure you, being Champowned is far worse.  Not only do I never play Type 1, but I regularly make 2-5 mistakes each game.  It's very humiliating to lose to me.

And i'll have a lighter to burn people.  If I lose, I simply steal their deck and burn it.  Short and sweet.

There was concerns with there being so many people that I would have to turn people away. I've done a few things to fix that problem.

First I called the site and reserved the larger hall.

Secondly, I have updated www.overtheedgegames.com with more information.

You can now preregister for the tournament on the website.  There is also a list of nearby hotels I found on Orbitz.com that are ridiculously cheap.

As a side note, there will be a party at my place the night before for all the OTE people.  Please call me and let me know if you are coming.

There's a party going on at my place Friday night.  Whether you're playing or not, come on down and goof around with the rest of us.  There will be poker and alcohol involved for those of us that enjoy that sort of thing, as well as plenty of sleeping space.

Ok, I just spoke to Andy, and he wants me to make this clear in case there are any questions:

THE TOURNAMENT WILL OCCUR, REGARDLESS OF WEATHER!

Sam Antill brought something up...

Stok says he reserved a hall, but wouldn't that mean it's no longer at the address at the beginning of this thread?

same place as listed, now in the upstairs instead of the downstairs.  The upstairs is the level that has been used before for PTQ's and CT states.

Just a post to provide validation for my excuse for scrubbing out hard in a few hours -

I'm still awake, on "all-night-awake" duty because I don't trust my alarm to wake us up.  I've had way much more beer than anyone here.  In a twisted sense, I already won.  In a different sense, I'll have a wicked hangover and I'll be playing something terrible.

Even so, I blame my inevitable failure on Crazy Carl, and I shall call him out so I can lose with a complete lack of dignity.  Damn right.

This just in: Rich Shay (The Atog Lord) is the winner, beating Jacob Orlove in the finals! Rich was playing Control Slaver and Jacob was playing UG Fish.

That's all I know so far.

Eli Kassis got third with Hulk.
Workshop slavery got fourth.
One of the other top 8 decks was dragon, but that's all I remember. Smennen has the decklists, so I'm sure he'll be posting them in the not too distant future.

I should have a full report up within a few days.

One slight correction: ELD made top four with Control Slaver, not Workshop Slaver.

So, two Control Slaver decks made top 4, along with UG Fish, and Hulk. There were also a pair of Foodchain decks in the top 8, plus a Rector deck.

Brief report:

Mapquest sucks ass. We get lost on the way down since the tournament was in the middle of suburbia.

We get there, I meet cool people - I'll write more on this when I actually write a real report. Tournament starts like an hour and a half late.

A prelim comment - Isochron Scepter sucks ass. I'm pissed that I wasted 2 slots on it in the board.

Round 1 - Cool guy who seems to be of the AndyStok crew. (Dragon)

Game 1 - All I see is Intuition, blue duals, and Duress. I Mind Twist for 4, he concedes and I side board as if playing against Tog.

Game 2 - He goes off because it's not Tog, it's Dragon.

Game 3 - I draw alot. I have STP's, Coffin Purges, and all kinds of goodies.

1-0

Round 2 - FAKE ROUND SINCE THEY FUCKED UP

I sit on no lands for a while in each game. It was just dumb.

Still 1-0 since they messed up.

The Second Round 2 - Masked Rider of MTGNews.com (Scepter Keeper)

Game 1 - I beat his AK engine and Scepters with Mind Twist and Yawgmoths Will. I don't remember this much, but he had Scepter with Mana Drain and something else and I won through it.

Game 2 - I establish control, and win via superior draw. I draw 3 off Ancestral with FoW back up, 3 off Scrying, then the rest is arbitrary.

2-0

Round 3 - Slaver

Game 1 - I'm winning, and I want to make sure he has no answer to a Yawgmoth's Will so I Mind Twist him, which just loses me the game because he is soon able to use those things for Welder.

Game 2 - I keep him mana light, and win with Decree and of course Yawgmoth's Will.

Game 3 - We Tie since he can't kill me in time.

2-0-1

Round 4 - 20 Counterspells, 4 Phids, 4 Brainstorms, Disk, and B2B.dec

Game 1 - He Ancestrals turn 1, I have no FoW. He Time Walks into an Ophidian, and Force of Wills, Counterspells, Stifles, AND Mana Drain's me to hell.

Game 2 - He drops a LoA. I see no Wastelands until he's drawn like 8 off it.

I was actually pretty pissed about this match. Not because it beat me... it really should beat the current Keeper build sans Keeper with Chains, but that a deck like this was in my Bracket. Had we gotten different pairings, he would have had to played one of the 2 other Slaver builds and got crushed.

2-0-1

Round 5 - A nice guy from Mass with the 2-Stifle Version of my Keeper

Game 1 - He drops LoA, Wastelands my 2 first lands, and then gets a 3rd Waste before I ever get a 3rd land. He draws at least 10 from LoA since I'm just waiting to die with a Sol Ring and a Mox Jet. He Decree's for 4 1/1's. I get beat for a few turns. I finally draw something that makes blue - Cunning Wish for Vamp. At 5 life, I Vamp into a Balance, bringing me to 3 on my upkeep.

I Balance with him with a full hand, expecting to just move to game 2. In all his drawing and tutoring - he doesn't make sure he has at least 1 counterspell. Balance resolves - Mind Twists his hand, kills ALL but 1 of his lands, and wipes out the Tokens.

I recover from there and win with 2 Angels.

Game 2 - He does that LoA thing again, dammit. He makes 2 4/4 Angel Tokens. This time he has 3 counterspells for my Balance with 2 REB back up.

Game 3 - I play faster for time limit, I get out 7 Soldier Tokens. I hit him once, he decrees on his next turn for 3 for blockers. I Fire/Ice two and then Will. I Fire, Time Walk, Draw, and all kinds of good things and kill him.

...but I concede because I had just recently found out that its still another 2 hours before even cutting to Top 8. I'm getting called from my woman and the two guys I'm with already dropped. I decide that with those two things, my medicore record of 3-1-1, 2 DEAD slots in the sideboard (Scepters) and the long ass ride home that I should just leave.

That's too bad.  From what I was told when I was tryign to win my last round so I could make top8, Rich was outside trying to bribe a 12 year old to concede to let him into the top8.

Hulk, I'm surprised that a respected member of the community such as yourself would make these strong accusations based on what you may have "heard." These accusations are completely false. There was no bribery of any sort, nor anything illegal.

Here's what happened. In the last round of Swiss, my opponent was undefeated, and would have made top eight if he won or lost. I had one loss and needed to win to make top eight. I asked my opponent if he wanted to concede.

He was concerned about making top eight, and said that he would only concede if, should he somehow not make top eight, he would have my spot in top eight. I didn't think this was allowed, so we checked with a judge. The judge said it was not allowed, so we just played our match.

If you really want, there are several people who watched the match being played.

There were too many people for a 7 round tournament. Things got very screwed up with whoever ran the computer and basically all the competent players there were at the mercy of the fates for a top 8 position.

I left early after the problems first started and Andy's people were perfectly willing to give me and my companions full refunds, so that I appreciate.

There were a lot of problems with how this event was run and I'm sure you'll hear more on that from others.
I would attend another of Stok's tourneys because I know Andy is a good guy and I don't believe he would let such incompetency happen again.

This is complete nonsense with absolutely NO factual information to back that statement up.  I was physically there, watching Rich Shay before the match and during the match, and I can safely say I saw NOTHING that could be described as shady, or foul play.  In addtion, I also watched the match, and saw TAL's opening hand of Mox, Sapphire, Land, Land, Drain, Thirst, Brainstorm and then proceed to bash the hell out of the opponent.  Furthermore, I don't think that the kid deliberately misplayed or anything, so I don't know where these allegatons are coming up.

Listen- I didn't just hear it from 1 random person.  MANY people said it was going on, and when I first heard about it I was more then 10 minutes into my match and looked around and noticed that Rich was in fact not sitting down anywhere playing.   He was outside.

Just because Andy eventually made him play it out doesn't mean it is right, and doesn't mean he shouldn't have been disqualified from the tournament.

Hulk, your concern for the rules is most admirable. Indeed, you are a courageous person; myself, I would not be brave enough to publicly denounce someone for something I did not even see. Was I a bit late getting to the table? Yes, I was doing math to see if I could draw in. Now, Samite has already said that he watched what happened, and that nothing illegal happened. Perhaps you could direct me to someone who actually saw anything illegal?

This is getting out of hand, and any moderator would be justified in ending this thread for being off topic. Please, message me if you have any further concerns.

I had no intention of saying anything but I am forced to at this point.

There are Vintage Adepts involved in this situation, and there is a certain integrity that being an adept is. I am not saying that anyone is right or wrong, but what I am saying is that there are people who worked very hard to get the respect that being an adept entails, and would not want that respect ruined or tarnished based on the actions of others.

Once again I am not accusing anyone of anything, but I ask that everyone think about what they are saying-- who knows the truth-- and that if there is a bluff to be called, what that would say to the community about us Adepts.

In order to show that there was no bribery whatsoever, and that everything was handled above board, I am going to give a full and complete account of what happened in the final round of Swiss.

Going into the last round, my record was 6-1, and that of my opponent was 7-0. At first, I thought that I would be able to draw into top eight. My opponent offered me a draw, and I accepted. However, I then studied the standings further, and concluded that I could not possibly draw into the top eight, and that my opponent would certainly make top eight even if he lost.

I went to the judges to ask if I could change my mind and play the match. I was told that since the result slip had not been signed, I could change my mind. I was also told that we would be given a small time extension, because I had taken too long in doing the math. I did feel bad about making my opponent play, but he would still make top eight, win or lose.

We sat down. I asked if he wanted to concede, since he would make top eight no matter what. He told me that he was still concerned about not making top eight. My opponent proposed that he scoop to me, and that if he somehow fails to make top eight, that he take my place. I didn’t think that this suggestion was legal, so I went to the judges’ table. They told us that it was not allowed. So, we sat down and played our match.

All of things that are explained in the previous post by Rich are correct. That is how the situation occured as best I saw it.

I hope that this helps to clarify things for everyone, and anyone who has spoke for or against The Atog Lord understands that there were some mistakes but ultimately nothing was done that wasn't permitted by the tournament officials.

I was actually one of the people watching as well, and I can conclude the same as Mykeatog.  In fact, I was the second person to do the math out to make sure Rich didn't mess it up (it's easy to do with the incorrect number of rounds and peoples minds still mushed from round 1.5)

Ahhhh this brings back memories of last summer.

My recommendation to all parties: Forget about it, move on, and keep a close eye on anyone you believe to be "shady, sketcy, suspicious" even, etc etc.

That's all.
