UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
Updated Info-
1. It has been brought to my attention that some people may think that this is a $35 dollar tournament. It is NOT! If you pay before the tournament, the fee is $15... if you pay the day of the tournament, the fee is $20.

2. Unrelated to magic, at this tournament, there will also be side tournaments for $6.00 of Yugiyoh and WWE Raw deal. (CONSTRUCTED) Prizes yet to be determined but most likely packs for the winner.

3. The 1st Draft format tournament will begin at 12:00 not 10:30

4. WWE and Yugiyoh will begin at or around 12:15.

5. A paypal account will be up shortly. (I just set up an account, and Paypal said it takes 2-3 days for my bank to verify it or something so by friday there will be an account up and running).
As I get the news so will you. Hope to see some people there...

imo, it's to early for a lot of players to make it. starting that early pretty much limits the tourney to people who actually live in nj...

also, the entrance fee ($20) is pretty steep considering you're not even specifying which mox. hell, gamemaster just charged $20 to play for a lotus... and although they're already established, mox tourneys are a dime a dozen around here.

i can't make it either way, but i suspect for next time a later starting time and a bigger prize (since everyone and their mother has mox tourneys) will attract more people.

hope all goes well, and don't take this as me being a dick. it's just my opinion  as someone who lives in nj.

Lord of the Goats- The preregistration is $15 (if you pay in advance of the tournament) I have yet to specify which mox because I am waiting for the card shop owner who is a main sponsor of this tournament to get me one. Once I get that info I will post that ASAP. The card shop owner is From Westfield Greg's Sportscards if anyone is familiar, they know he is very reputable. As for starting time, Registration is beginning at 9:45, as long as you're there by 10:30 you're going to be in the tournament. we're just starting at 9:45 to avoind having to input 70 names at the last minute.  Hope this explains a lot.

Lord Drazinus- We're hoping for it to be a blast. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Mistershark- We'd like for this to be semi successful so we can actually do this on a more regular basis, maybe with bigger prizes as we go along.

LOTG- We have had discussions on other topics (Hulk decks etc) and by no means did I think you were being a dick. Thanks for the advice.

Double Post merged, try to refrain from that please.

GREG'S SPORTSCARDS!!!!  Christ!!!!  I used to go there every f-ing day when I worked in Westfield!  I don't know who started this thread but I take it you know Greg!  Tell him Brett said hello from Boston!  Also I can vouge for Greg being a reputable dealer and one hell of a standup guy when he's not saying "fuel" everytime you use a fetch-land!  Anyway I'd love to be at the tourny but alas I live in Boston and that may as well be Sri Lanka.  Send Greg my regards!

Also, maybe a later start time would help attendance?????

Lockdown-This tournament is a trial run to see if we can hold them regularly.  If it is a success, then we will hold them and I'll ask Zherbus for the Tournment organizer status. If it is unsuccessful we may have to scrap the idea after this tourney. This one is booked and set however.

Attmore- Yeah I know Greg, we play magic almost every thursday night either at his shop or the place where the tournament is (a group of us that is, Type 1 only).  Thanks for vouching for Greg.

As some of you have expressed an interest in the start time here is a message regarding it: Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the hall we booked (and paid for) they needed us to begin around 10 AM, so I started pre registration a few minutes early and such (for Mr. Pollack and the dealer tables to set up as well.)

The hall itself holds quite a bit of people, well over 150 and that is giving us room to breathe and walk around. It should be a very fun day.

Well, well, well.   At least there are 2 people that know of me thanks Brett and thanks to the LORD OF THE GOATS.  There have been questions regarding the entrance fee $15 in advance gets you a spot in the tourney and free autographs from artist Allan Pollack.  I have a store in Westfield where you can come in and pre register.  The address is 305 South Ave West, Westfield, NJ 07036. (telephone (908-317-6888))

We also have a type 1 tournament every Sunday at 2:00p.m.  We usually get between 12 and 20 people.  Entrance fee is $5 and prizes are determined by # of people.

If you have questions about the tournaments give the store a call.

Thanks,

Greg

It's great to see a big T1 tournament coming together locally.

Top 3 prizes (Mox, Forcefield, Abyss) are all super, and the 4th and 5th are more than worth the price of admission.  While this may not be a Lotus tournament, as someone mentioned, the entry fee is only $15, and a good opportunity for those of us still trying to complete our Power 9 (even if it winds up being one I have, it's a Mox... sell it and get what I need).  Regarding the mentioned prizes, I've played at Greg's, so I too can vouch for him.

Count me in, and I hope to see lots of other people there.  Seems like they are trying to get a solid turnout to make this a regular event.  Perth Amboy is a pretty straight shot via Turnpike/Parkway in NJ, and also easy for Staten Island.

Ineffible, please post more details as you get them.  Also, regarding proxies, what is considered acceptable and do we have to bring our own or will they be available on site?

Cheers

Update- I will be putting up a paypal account for anyone who wishes to pay in advance of the tournament. Once I get the info into the system I will post here and let you know the email address to send your payment.

There will be other news regarding the tournament coming shortly as those of us co-sponsoring it are meeting on Tuesday March 9th to discuss further details.
Thanks.

PS- Regarding proxies.  Arrow  I do know that there will be some Newbies there who do not have any power and may not know what some of the older cards are,(or do) so I would like to address this issue. We would like it if you could bring scanned/printed proxies of the card in order to stop any potential whining of what a card might be. If you pay by paypal, you can email me and I will print the 5 proxies out for you and give them to you in an envelope the day of the tournament. (However this offer stands only until 3/31. I will not be able to print proxies out after that date.
Thank you again...

Hey its cool that you guys are putting a T1 tournament here in NJ. It's also good to hear from Brett. (GREEEEEEG"S SPORTS CARDS) Remember that Brett. Too bad you cant make it. The 5 proxie rule is also cool as it allows people to bring fully powered decks. Now everyone can prepare for a powered meta.

As far as greg is concerned he is a good friend of mine and very reputable business man. Im sure he willl provide the appropriate cards. I hope not the mox emerald I'm trying to get from him Smile.

Hope to see all there.

I'm really hoping that vendors will have a strong showing at this tourney giving everybody (especially myself) a chance at picking up some singles that might otherwise be hard to find without scouring eBay and the rest of the online shops.  Hopefully trading will be happening at a brisk pace as well.

I'm also looking forward to meeting some of the faces behind the names here on TheManaDrain.  See everybody there!

April 3rd is a couple weeks away. Get in soon to get the discount rate. You can pay through Paypal or stop by my store: Greg's Sportscards and Gaming, located at 305 South Ave. West, Westfield NJ, 07090. You can call me at (908-317-6888).

We are going to have 4 tables of dealers and an area set up for artist Allan Pollack who will have art for sale and will sign cards. He has done around 75 in total ( Nether Spirit, Recoil, Force Bubble, 8th edition Story Circle, and the famous Island and Forest from Odyssey)

We will have 8 man drafts going all day that will start once we have 1st round pairings for the type 1.

Color printouts of cards for proxies will be acceptable, writing the name of a card on the back of another magic card will not.
Posting information about your tournament will be acceptable, posting in all caps will not. Don't do it again. Fixed.

Hi,
jnog- Yes refreshments will be made available at the tournament. We have not decided yet however on what kind.

firebird- we are hoping for a large mix of players aged 12-whatever... we are hoping for a number around 35-50. (some being Newbs, others being seasoned vets of type 1)
Hope that helped.

Ok we're coming up on 10 days to go before the tournament.
Here is what we have so far.

- Doors open at 9:45

-1st round begins at 10:30

- Solid prizes (top 5)

- Age will range from 12-?? (34 is the highest confirmed attendee thus far)

- Refreshments will be made available

- 4 Dealer tables including Artist/Illustrator Alan Pollack- who will be signing cards throughout the day at little if any cost to you.

- a range of competitive levels from Newbie to power decks.

- WWE raw deal and Yugiyoh side tournaments

- Magic the Gathering draft tournaments beginning after the 1st round.

-  paypal address of RSAB81@aol.com for prepayers

- preregistration fee is $15, but if you choose to  register the day of the tournament it will be $20

- 5 Proxies allowed, color preferred but black and white proxies will be acceptable - as long as the card is printed and slid into a sleeve.

I have read a few posts here on the newbie forum about stealing of cards, if you are caught stealing, you will automatically be ejected from the tournament and the building. If the person wishes to press charges he/she will be allowed to call the police and have matters taken care of there.

If you are suspected of cheating, you will be warned. If you are suspected a 2nd time by another player you will be DQ'd if the judges feel enough evidence is there to DQ someone.

If anyone has any further questions please feel free to contact me at Yawgmoths_win@yahoo.com or reply here.
Hope to see you guys there.
