OK, so I got some insuranc money for some stolen decks and bought power 9. Now i just need help with my scepter-keeper deck so Iwon't lose big-time like I did at the last T1 tournament Sad

Anyways, here's a decklist so far:

Mana:

1 Black Lotus
1 MoxSapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 MoxPearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Sol Ring
1 Lotus Petal
4 Polluted Delta
2 Volcanic Island
2 Underground Sea
2 Tundra
1 Library of Alexandria
3 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

Counter:

4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain

Draw:

4 Brainstorm
1 Fact or fiction
1 Ancestral Recall
2 Fire/Ice
1 Skeletal Scrying
1 Timetwister <--card #61, only in there for casualpimpnezz!

Search:

1 VampiricTutor
1 Demonic Tutor
2 Cunning Wish
1 Mystical Tutor

Broken/utility:

4 Isochron Scepter
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Balance
1 Mind Twist
4 Duress
1 Swords to Plowshares

Kill:

2 Morphling <---will be decree of justice as as soon as I get them!
1 Decree of Justice

Sideboard:

3 Hyrkul's Recall
2 Gorilla shaman
1 Tormod's Crypt
1 Disenchant
1 Coffin Purge
1 Stifle
1 Counter Spell
1 Orim's Chant
1 Diabolic Edict

2 others I haven't yet decided

Anyways, that'sit-I pulled out two intuion and four accumulated knowledge, but I'm considering putting them back in again... If anyone has some experience with this type of deck, help would be greatly appreciated! I've espicially had problems with Stax and gayfish. the Hyrkull's recall are in there for stax, but I'm still not sure what to do about Landstill and Gayfish... :-/

First thing you should do is correct you mana base. 22 sources (including Petal)?
At least one more Volcanic, Sea & Tundra and Wasteland and/or Basic Island. And no Petal.

Do you need Duress? Don't think you can support it without 4x Undergorund Sea (especialy with you mana base). And Keeper usually stays away from Duress anyway...

Lose Twister (btw, your deck is 60 cards if I'm not mistaken) and put Vampiric Tutor in SB. It's wishable.

Cards you could put in: Gorilla Shaman, another Scrying and Cunning Wish, Stifle...

As for Landstill, it'll become a better matchup with more Decrees and Wasteland.

I agree with the comment about going up to at least 25 mana sources, preferably 26, and cutting the Lotus Petal in the process.  I would say lose the 4 Duress to make room, and up the Tundra count to 4 if you want to reliably pay the kicker on that Orim's Chant in the sideboard.

Also, one way you can help yourself against Stax is by going up to 4 Fire/Ice maindeck to use with your Scepters.  They deal with Welders nicely, and when no Welder is in play, tapping a Workshop during his upkeep is a good idea.  Fire/Ice on a stick is also golden against those pesky weenie decks, and serves as an alternate win condition.

hmm, sounds fair :-/ I haven't had problems playing the duresses though, but you might be right in that they aren't all that playable:

Lotus Petal: I'm not sure why you want me to cut it...? It's fast mana and one more way of either putting out a turn-1 scepter along with being able to cast a mana drain turn 1.

Mana base: I may be wrong, buyt why change somethging that works? I rarely have problems putting out lands the first three or four turns and with the moxes and stuff, I'm generally never in trouble...? Also, more land=fewer active spells, and since all my cards are cheap to cast (except FoW which oughtta be free and the decrees which feed of drains), why would I need half a ton of land? To me it seems like it would just be clogging up the deck but, then again, I might be wrong...

I am losing twister, like I said, it's there for pimpnezz, I just play it when we play casual (anyone who owns power runs twister just for the hell of it around here- seeing 2 or 3 twisters resolving during a multiplayer-game isn't all that rare, but it does create a good deal of chaos!). anyways, it goes out for any tournament or serious play Smile

I'm working on obtaining more decrees and the wasteland, so that shouldn't be a problem, I alos need more fire/ise (yes, an uncommon, but a popular one at that!).

Here's what I'm thinking of doiing after your advice:

-4 duress
-1 timetwister
-1 vampiric tutor (for the sideboard)

+1 tundra
+1 skeletal scrying (the pain, the pain!)
+2 fire/ice
+1 gorilla shaman
+1 cunning wish

If anyone has moire comments/suggestions, please, let it out! Smile

Well, let's see.  To start with, I think you'll be better off with a 2nd Swords over a 4th Fire/Ice.   You also really need to at least change that Lotus Petal to a permanent mana source, probably a Volcanic Island in this case because of your reliance on Fire/Ice.

Don't worry about cutting Duress.  It really doesn't work that well in a reactive control deck.  I tried it myself once and was never quite happy with it.

For your sideboard, I recommend Rack and Ruin instead of Hurkyl's Recall.  I think you'll find its a much stronger card, even though you can't put it on a scepter.  I aslo suggest putting an Ebony Charm in there as well.

hey, that charm is definitelybetter than the old Coffin Purge Smile I'm keeping my STOP to one due to the fact that I rarely needit and if I o, there's always a cunning wiash to pick it form my graveyard. However,I like a rack and ruin in my sideboard, so now it looks like this:

2 Hyrkul's Recall
2 Gorilla shaman
2 Rack and ruin
1 Ebony charm
1 Disenchant
1 Stifle
1 Counter Spell
1 Orim's Chant
1 Diabolic Edict
1 fire/Ice
1 Swords to Plowshares
1 Abeyance <--this baby's hard to find, I've been using a proxie the last year or so!

While it's true that Ebony Charm is a great sideboard card, be carefull to overestimate it: While good against madness it has its weaknesses because it's a one time shot while coffin purge is somewhat duress proofed and gives you two chances to remove the dragon. But I really like Ebony Charm in Tog and GAT builds because the unblockability for one turn can be very usefull.

Cunning Wish won't get your StP back from the graveyard, it only fetches cards from out of the game, i.e. your removed from game zone or sideboard.

Charm vs. Purge is definitely a metagame call, as Phele said, depending on what you fear most: Dragon or Madness.  I haven't tested the Dragon match-up that much, but my limited experience shows that imprinting StP and then protecting the Scepter is pretty much game.    I therefore focus on that strategy against Dragon and go with Charms since I find them better against Madness, while also somewhat better in the Stax match-up that you mentioned as a problem.

Do you only have 22 mana in that deck?  Keeper needs at least 25 to function properly.

Although it has been said so many times, Keeper needs about 26 mana sources to function.  Or you have never played against Wastelands, then all the power to you.

Wait.  There's like twelve BILLION Keeper threads in this place.  Pick one of them, or better yet just copy a list and be happy with it since they are liable to be better than you are.
