This is my T1 report from wednesday, march 10 2004. I found a store in Tucson called Kards for you who hosts T1 tourneys, but not dci sanctioned. Better than nothing. Since I didn't bring my decent decks, all I brought was a cheasy sindbad deck. This is hilarious, so here goes:
Round 1: Played against Sam b/u Tog/hulk smash
Game 1:He won the dice roll so he played first. The first land he dropped was a polluted delta, at that moment, I already knew that he was playing Tog/hulk smash. A few turns later, he duressed me, i gave him my hand and he had a very peculiar look on his face, he saw what I was playing and it didn't make any sense to him. When my turn came, I drew a brass man and played it. He picked the card up and stared at it for a while, noting the eyes I decided to color in red. As the game went on, I took him down to around 12 life or so, he did the usual intuition, get 3 ak's and so forth. He attacked with his tog, and berzerked it. Game over. Game 2: I guess he got bad draws or kept a crummy hand because I won!! I topdecked 3 bloodcurdlers and a nether shadow, along with an unstable mutation. When the game was over, his face looked like a puzzled grin, as if someone has broken a bottle over his head. Game 3: Same as game 1, I was decimated.
Round 2: forgot the guys name, he was playing mono black + tendrils combo
Game 1: He cast a wrench mind, hoping to make me ditch 2, but instead I discarded a fountain of youth, his face was very puzzled as well. He topdecked 2 hypnotic specters, and wrecked my hand. Then he began to cast urzas bauble and cabal rituals and tendriled me for 10. Game over. Game 2: I got a sindbad into play, and began to use its ability, but I wasn't drawing any land, darn. He got his specters on my butt again, and then he tendriled me for the killing blow. Game over.
Round 3: Played John Jackson, some guy from Georgia with an accent. He wa playing mono black
Game 1: First turn, I cast a brass man, and my opponent stared at its eyes, yet another player with a puzzled look on their face. He casted a carnophage, but it wasn't enough to take down my brass man. After 4 turns of paying life to keep the carnophage untapped during his upkeep, he finally decided to play an innocent blood. After that, he began to summon specters and order of the ebon hand (ooohhhhhh). He beat me down quickly. Game over. Game 2: I had 2 fountain of youths in play, which kept me alive for a few more turns. But in the end, I was tore up by 2 specters and 2 order of the ebon hands. Game over
I had to pick up my roomate from work, so I dropped before round 4 started. Overall, even though I lost badly, I was very excited to have beaten even once a high end deck such as Tog. Shocking, isn't it? I asked my folks to send me my 'real' cards, hopefully they will arrive before next wednesday.
I have enclosed my deck list so you can laugh at its effectiveness. More reports to come. Greets to all the guys at C&J Collectibles.
