But as a player of a game that follows a set of concrete rules, I would be even more pissed if it was left up to anybody besides the DCI to decide what rules we do and do not have to follow.  If the rule is there, it needs to be followed.  At a certain point, people could say, "just let it go," but then who's the judge of when and when not to just let it go?  The judge of the event, hypothetically, should never let it go if it's agains the rules.  So people who let stuff go are essentially saying that some rules do not need to be followed, but there's no authority as to which are said type of rules.

Were you playing proxies? Ask the DCI what they think about that.

I was speaking in general terms about sanctioned events.  At a proxy tournament, there is an understanding that no other rules are compromised simply because of the use of proxies.  You're now bringing up a completely seperate issue that I didn't even begin to touch on.  And as it would be somewhat off-topic here, I won't start now.

I'm not closing this one too, on account of that it's a tournament report, not an annoucement thread that went horribly wrong.

I'll start a topic where you can all discuss anything that happened in the event.
