Arnway's Archers

Summon - Elf Wizard
Arnway's Archers can block creatures with flying.
Arnway's Archers gets +2/+2 when blocking a creature with flying.
2U: Target creature gains flying until the end of the turn.

The thing is that it's both a good blocker and a way to get around a ground lock.

Bubble Spider may block as though it had flying.
Whenever Bubble Spider blocks a creature with flying it gets +2/+2 until end of turn.
2U: Target creature gains flying until the end of the turn.

Mechanically, I see how this works, but from a flavour standpoint, this seems kind of weak. Why exactly can Arnway's Archers cause my creatures to fly? Couldn't you give them an activativated ability, "   : Arnway's Archers gets +2/+2 until the end of turn. Use this ability only when Arnway's Archers is blocking." |

The ability isn't designed to be just for blocking, it can be used for attacking as well. From a flavor standpoint, perhaps the creature type should be changed to: elf wizard. In fact, that's what I am going to do. I need some help with the flavor text, something that make the card a bit more understandable.

This looks horribly underpowered except in Limited where the Flying ability is golden. As it is I think you could make it a 2/2 (hell even 2/3) for 2GU or a 1/2 for 1GU. It would be apt if the Archers couldn't make themselves fly, shooting arrows whilst flying is difficult. (See Aven creatures and the Flash Gordon movie for proof)

The flavor text could indicate that it traps it's prey in bubbles or something stupid like that, which could account for making your creatures fly. Which version do you like better?

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

Not so, Upinthe. The oracle text for creatures, such as Giant Spider is, 'may block as though it had flying'. Interestingly enough, this change from the old text (which, incidentally, hasn't been used since Fifth Edition) means that Giant Spider can block Treetop Rangers, which says it may be blocked only by creatures with flying.
