On the bright side, maybe all draft monkeys everywhere will finally have to figure out exactly when SBEs are checked?

WORST RULES CARD EVAR.  I guarantee this is card the card designer freelance guy thought up.  What a stupid idea, but gameplay wise and storywise.  What is a thing that cannot exist?  And doesn't exposure to sun seem like something that should WEAKEN a parasite.  Whatever.  Dumbass card.

Oh and by the way Jacob and Matt should be the next freelancers.  They make GREAT cards.

Our cards are also almost without fail balanced within five minutes of coming up with the idea.

This card isn't THAT dumb - it's not like it requires its own special section of the rulebook (I will never understand why Sharazhad isn't banned along with Chaos Orb), it just makes you have to know the rules a little better. They're not particularly unintuitive rules, either.

The problem is, many of the less knowledgable players will see negative numbers in the P/T box and go "GUH?!?!!!1" and then they come to me. Razz

I don't mind being helpful, but the same questions over and over again withing 10 minutes can be a little disheartening.

I'm expecting another "Book Burning" type fiasco.

I'm also of the opinion that Sharazhad should be banned. Very Happy

The problem with that was that it was SO HARD to explain to people why they were wrong, and SO MANY people didn't understand it the first time they saw the card. I think there may be similar problems here--especially if people read it as 1/1 a lot.

Nah, humility is held together by everyone agreeing to pretend that we have rules duct tape strong enough to hold it together.

Sorry to p*ss on everyone's bonfire here but wasn't there a base 0/0 creature that just about everyone loved in the CCF a while back? At least this guy might survive on when cast without outside help. Anyway there are a number of Sunburst cards that can die when cast.

Can't say I would be too happy to see this in a pack I bought though....

Plenty of base 0 creatures exist.

Negative numbers can cause people problems for some reason.

I'm just preparing for the worst.

I seriously don't see the problem here. People understand 0/0 cards and this is exactly the same deal.

The morons who don't understand mathematics as simple as "-1 + 2 = 1" etc don't deserve your concern.

I'm just fearing the worst.  This set as a whole is looking to become a "lets break every rule we haven't broken yet" set.

Not only do we have a creature with a base P/T of -1/-1, we also have:

Play everything but lands as an Instant.

Skipping the Upkeep step.

Cards other than basic lands that can be played with more than four in your deck.

I'll have an anurism by the time the full spoiler comes out.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the confusion about abilities that say "Play this ability only any time you could play a Sorcery."

Skipping the Upkeep step. Wow. Haven't seen that.

Poor Jebus. =(

On the other hand, I've been waiting for four-copy-limit-breaking for a long time now.

I believe that card actually started out as having negative toughness but we came to our senses and made it like 8/0 or something.

The "Play this when you could play a Sorcery" mechanic doesn't cause too many issues.  I'm mostly worried about card interactions that may come up now that it would be easy to play everything at instant speed.  The Helix already caused one major issue.  I expect more to follow with this new Artifact.

See the excitement-about-instant-Chalice-or-Standstill post in the Open forum.

"No. Stop asking me that! Don't you have any questions about Drop of Honey or something?"

This is going to be the most awesome pre-release to run ever.

Ug.

As a player though, this shit's hardcore.  <3 instants.

Huh? Are you for real?

BTW, I'm kinda worried now about the PR I'm running heh. I'm going to get all this shit, even though CF thinks it's not that bad, a lot of people are stupid, and don't think for a minute.

We haven't seen the actual card yet, but a very good source (and some other supporting evidence) makes this card very likely.

Luckily, I'm not running any prereleases.  I do feel sorry for those that will.

From my experience, the main issue with prerelease rules problems are indeed those that don't read the card properly.

That, coupled with lack of sleep creates an environment ripe with confusion.

...what happened with book burning??

The issue that arose with Book Burning was caused by a combination of a few things.

A:  An inconvenient line break that caused people to insert imaginary punctuation.

B:  People's lack of understanding of commas and their signifigance in the english language

Book Burning reads:

"Unless a player has book Burning deal Six damage to them, put the top six cards of target player's library into their graveyard."

Many people read it as:

"Unless a player has book burning, Deal Six Damage to them put the top Six cards of tharget player's library into their graveyard."

What followed were questions asking, what exactly did it mean to have book burning?  In my hand, my deck, my collection?

The shear amount of people who misinterpreted this card (and Browbeat and other punisher mechanic cards) was insane.

I think this card is cool.

I think sunburst has a dumb name... and should be saved for Invasion2.
