I was talking with Dr. Sylvan about the currently ongoing Magic Invitational.  I think that we should elect Zherbus to the next Invitational as a write in.  My reasons for this are simple:  the Invitational is for people that have made a contribution to game.  Some people did this through Pro Tour winnings, but some people like Dave Price and Jon Finkel are continual elected for their role in the community.  Kibler and Zvi are similarly elected for their writing.  Thus, performance on the Tour is not the sole qualification. As such Zherbus, who has made a HUGE contribution to Magic, should go to the Invitational next year.  While Steve and JP and others have also aided the Vintage community, this site, thanks to Zherbus is the hub of the Vintage community.  He runs this for free and we all benefit.  As such I think we should make a concerted effort during the next election to get Zherbus there.  He should be a write in and we should use our collective resources to get him there.  What are your thoughts?

Zherbus is too puss-puss to accept. We all know he doesn't show up at big events.

Sounds good I would like to see him elected for what he has done.  This site kicks ass.  By the way what is the format of the invitational?

It is like four or five different formats. They aren't the same every year, but can include every format, and decks from Type 1.

They moved it to MODO, so Type 1 is unlikely unless they abandon MODO for the invitational.

*sigh* ... T1 gets the shit end of the stick yet again. Is there a reason why Modo hasn't been upgraded to support T1? Is it too much work, or... what's the issue there?

Well, I don't think they want to sell Virtual Packs that aren't in print.

That, and they have their hands full getting the cards they have now to work right.

I will seriously quit MWS and go to MODO if they add T1.

For one thing, iirc whenyou collect a full set of modo cards you can trade for reals, and they can't print new reals of type one cards. So adding type one forces them to break a policy.

Adding type one would be more than a phenomenal amount of work--it verges on incomprehensible. Look at the bugs they have now, and just imagine what would happen if they had to program in older cards that MODO wasn't designed to handle: Humility doesn't work under the real rules, so there's just NO WAY to get the computer to understand it.

A little card like [card]Vedalken Engineer[/card] took a lot of work to code.  Now try to code some of the older cards like Dominating Licid or Volrath's Shapeshifter...

To bring it a little back on topic, how many did Finkel or Zvi (popular votes?) get? IE, how much support would have to be raised to get Zherbus in?

Support? Probably just about anyone who uses these boards. There'd be a lot - and even if Zherbus didn't get voted in, it'd still raise T1 awareness.

Count me in for this one. Assuming Zherbus wants to play...

Just so everyone knows, about 10-12,000 people vote in the random polls at the end of articles on mtg.com.  That's about 10x the people on TMD :<

I understand that the Type 1 World Champion should go, but that should be for next year.  This year, after Worlds, we TMDers should descend on Wizards like a plauge of locusts.  The idea here is that if Kibler and Zvi, who have not exactly been tearing it up on the PT can get elected by popular vote for their contributions to the community, aka writing premium articles for CRAP ASS Brainburst, then Steve, who does this shit for FREE, should get a nod.  The other thing that would be cool would be seeing one of us WHOOPIN' some non-Vintage player monkey ass.  I think if Steve can still win big tournaments with a jalopy like Keeper or Germbus, he has enough skill to compete with Zvi and Kibler.     At worst it would be a free mini-vacation for a guy that basically saved a format.  Steve, JP, and Karl would all be good people to send, as they too have done alot, but in my mind Z stands out as the big contributor.  Furthermore, if we are going to make a statement then we need to consolidate our support and vote for one guy.  Deciding who is better or more important among Steve, JP, and Karl (and others) is like trying to choose between Lindsey Lohan and Jessica Simpson--it is impossible.  But with Z we have a clear candidate.

As a logistics issue, I think that any of us that write pieces from now until after voting closes should put in a quick note about Zherbus for Invitationals.  Also I think that passing out a pre-made "candidate" flyer at big events like Pre-releases would help.  I will see what I can do about making up such a flier tonight.  Any other campaign ideas?

A lot of tmd people are at college. Go to your comp lab and vote once from each comp there. Since most schools have more than 10 comps it will easily outweigh our numerical disadvantage.
On a more serious note though I bet there are a lot of T1 people out their who read the star city (and other sites) articles even if they don’t frequent TMD and some of them might vote.

You need a DCI number to vote.  That's how they prevent people from voting 100 times.

I'm in. Just let us know who we are trying to vote in. I think both Zherbus and CrazyCarl should get voted in. Next year, it should be Zherbus and this years winner of the T1 Event.

There is no set recurring date.  They are pretty much yearly.

This year's is going on right now.

I think this is a great idea to have a prominant figure from the vintage scene possibly attending an invitational.  Count me in and I will also spread the word across the 1.5 community as well, as Steve has done a lot for us in the past.

I would support many of the major contributors to this site if they wanted to play in the Invitational.

This could be Zherbus, Smemmen, JP Meyer, etc.
