Many people have said it, and now I’m going to say it again. This summer could very well be the best summer ever for Type One Tournaments. Well, we have decided to make it just a little bit better. As it says below we have decided to hold a Lotus tournament up here in Maine and we are inviting all of you to come.

This is our third tournament this year,

You can read about our first one here (http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16699)
and here (http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16224)

And the second one here
http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17561
and here http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17563

Basically this is going to be run in the same was as our two previous ones, with a lot of the money taken in being funneled right back into prizes. Our goal is to promote competitive type one play in our region, and we see these tournaments as the best way to do that.

This is a NEW location, much much closer to the boarder, and ends up being about an hour and a half from Boston. For our “southern tournamentâ€? we have decided to pair up with a great game store called Choose Your Own Adventure. They have a nice big clean store with lots of table space, a nice knowledgeable staff, and plenty of parking.

In addition to snacks and drinks, CYOA will be selling sleeves, dice, singles, and anything else you could possibly want to play magic.

So come on down and help some fellow TMD’rs raise interest and awareness of our favorite format, and maybe win a Black Lotus in the process!

I hope to see you there

-Jared "nataz" Carter

Announcement: BLACK LOTUS Tournament

A Magic tournament will be held with a Black Lotus as 1st prize

-Heh, I think we’ll call this the North-EastCoast-NewEngland-TriState Type One Championship* Wink

Date: Saturday, July 10, 2004

Time:  Deck Registration: 11:00
Tournament Starts: 12:00

Place: Choose Your Own Adventure Games, 152 US rout 1 – Scarborough Maine 04074-8365

Format: Type 1 with UNLIMITED PROXIES. Normal Banned/Restricted rules still apply but you may use any number of proxied (fake) cards. Please make sure your proxies are legible and clearly marked.

The number of rounds of Swiss will be determined by the number of entrants with a cut to the top 8.

For the B/R list, please check the Wizards website because it changes frequently.

Prizes: Prizes will depend on the number of entrants, but if at least 40 people show up, first prize will be a Black Lotus in Very Good Condition! There will be many more prizes, including:

1. Black Lotus for First Place

2. A second prize of as much as a Mana Drain

3. Random door prizes during every round

4. A prize for the player with the best record and the fewest proxies in his or her deck (# points / # proxies)

In the event that fewer than 40 people show up, the grand prize will be cash based on the number of entrants.

Cost: The entry fee will be $25 or less depending on turnout.

Directions: CYOA is right off Route 1, and very easy to find. The easiest way to get there is to take the Maine Turn Pike (I-95) until the Scarborough Exit (Formerly Exit 6) and then take Route 1 north. CYOA is on the right.

For more exact directions from your own house, go to the CYOA web-site at www.CYOAgames.com and on the right side near the top just enter your location and it will spit out directions.
*MapQuest is a godsend

For more info, call CYOA at 207-883-2700

E-mail CYOA with your information and then will e-mail you back with instructions

Also, to help facilitate a speedy registration, Please e-mail your Deck List to cyoa@cyoagames.com if possible

thanks again

*Bump*

Okay,
More people have PM'ed me, and have subsequently been added to the list.

If you, or your friends will be here on the 10th LET ME KNOW!
PM me, Jake, or even e-mail CYOA, because we would like to get a feel for how many are going to show up.

I know a bunch of locals are going to turn out for this event, but come on now, where are the TMD'ers. I know there are more in the area, and this is for a lotus.

I mean, heck, think about your chances of wining a lotus (or cash equivalent) at Gencon or Origins, and then think about your chances wining it with us. Heck, HIGHLANDER took the Mox jet last time. :-p

So yea,

ummm...

Show up, and Fight for the Right to be the East/North/Almost In Canada/Maine Type One Champs.

I have even been able to secure the winner of the event a burger King crown!

Hope to see you there

-carter

EDIT*
It has come to my attention that at least one person is looking for a ride up here. So if anyone wants to help a TMD'er out and give slighguy from Brokton Ma a lift send him a PM.

If anyone else needs a ride maybe we can organize some kind of car pool.

-thanks

I've added more names to the list.

there has been a really good local response, and it looks like we will get some really good compitition.

I'd like to ask that anyone who is planning to attend please bring your deck list with you in order to save time, have on it your name, proxies, and card list.

hope to see you there

Damn, there are so many power tournaments so close to me and I finally have time to go to some.  I really wish I could go to this, but I'll be busy.

You should definitely have another later in the summer, but be careful with scheduling, since there are so many huge tournaments happening this summer.

If I can move some stuff around, I might be able to come to this thing.  I have a question about getting there, though.  The directions from the south have you take 495 until it becomes 95, and then kind of loop around north of the place and turn back onto Rt. 1 South.  Is there a simpler way to get from 95 onto Rt. 1 North somewhere south of Scarborough so you can just go right to it without going north first?

There is a simpler but long way to get there (only 10 mins longer or so), all you do is head though town from the south instead of coming from the north.

Take 95 to the Scarborough exit, go straight thought the light right off 95.
This will put you on a short connecter that will take you to route 1.
Take a left (north) onto route one at the light at the end of the connecter.
Follow route 1 north until you see the sign for CYOA, it will be on the left at what I believe is the third set of traffic lights.
CYOA is located in a little mini-mall type complex with about 4 or 5 other stores right next to it.

But really, either way you take, its pretty simple to get there, and not much difference in time.

If for some reason you are going to be late, but you are very close, CALL THE STORE.
You can find the number at their web site.

P.S.

Just wanted to share this PM from TMDer Bulls on Parade

“Hey I've been pimping your tourney locally and I'm bringing literally like 9 people. Can't wait until Saturday.

That’s pretty cool!
Seriously, from the people that have been letting me know, we should have a pretty good turn out.

I hope to see you all there, (and bring your friends too!)
As always, if you have any questions or you want to add yourself to the list, PM me on TMD and I’ll get back to you pretty quick.

Thanks for the directions.  I have one more quick question.  What needs to be on the proxies?  Is it sufficient to just have the name of the card and its casting cost if I also bring the oracle text of all the cards I'm proxying?

I think we would like to see all relevant text on the card.
name, casting cost, effect, type, etc, although bringing the o-rulings is never a bad thing.

we should have the latest rulings on the computer there with us, and we will have a good judge there too. (i think he is a lev 3)

Okay.  The only reason I asked is because it's hard to fit a lot of text on a basic land when you're writing in sharpie.  But for the deck I chose, I don't think any of my proxies need too much text, so it's fine.

I think I'll be able to move a rehearsal, so there's a very decent chance I'll be at this tournament.  I'm not going to preregister, because I'm not positive, but you can almost count on it.

just so everyone knows...

today on the drive up to CYOA i noticed that it is in fact 8 (as in NOT about 3 lights) traffic lights up on route 1 after you get off the turnpike (if you are for some reason following my directions two posts up, instead of going to mapquest like good little boys and girls).

but yea, other then that it is generally right...

either way, use mapquest!

also, I just got this last min PM

Team Norwood will be making an appearance it seems. This includes:

"Meddling Mage"
and Rich Shay "The Atog Lord"
and a mutual friend DA.

so the list is growing, and that is awsome.

Tommrow is going to be a great time, hope to see you all there, I cant wait to meet you.

please remember to have you deck list all written up if possible WITH a list of proxies you are using. We WILL have deck checks and it will make things run so much faster.

thanks to all who are making the trip Very Happy

Oh man, this tournament sounds like it's going to be good.  Naturally, I couldn't reschedule stuff, so of course I'll be busy during the unlimited proxy Lotus tournament.  My luck sucks.  Hopefully I'll see some of you guys in Salem next week, though.  Good luck tomorrow.

31 people showed up.

I came in second with Control Slaver.

Nataz won with Fish, defeating three Control Slaver decks in the top eight. The top eight had four total Control Slaver decks in it!

Expect more details in the near future.

lets see

well I won, so that is pretty cool.

I had to beat 3 control slaver builds in the top 8 to win, with the finals being between me and rich shay.

other decks that top 8ed were another fish, another control slaver, and a dragon deck.

lots more info coming, I know I'll have a full report and so should Shay and meddling mage.

A HUGE thanks to everyone that showed up,
mad props to Jake for giving away the lotus
And thanks to CYOA for hosting this event

Wow, this thing has been up for like 17 hours, and no badgering by Dr. Sylvan.  Is he on vacation or something?

So thats 4 control slaver, 2 fish, 1 dragon, what was the 8th deck?
