I'd seriously consider doing cut to top 8 playoff.  In Game Univere's first tournament we cut to top 4 and we haven't had the same attendence since because many people were mad about not making it.  Top 8 is 100% better, even if you have only 20 people.

If there are more than 16 people playing in it you should also run 5 rounds.  It gives players a chance to recoup from 1 bad matchup easier.

I will not be at this tournament unfortunatley because I'm out of town.  Some of my friends from Milwaukee might come to it but I doubt anyone from Chicago or Illinois will come due to the late start time.

Eau Claire is pretty close to Madison.  I'd say its within 2 hours so you should have no problems getting there.

After a few posts and PM's I wanted to reply to make sure people understood this: Normally for our tournaments we have an attendance of 10-16 people and have been working well with 4 Swiss rounds and a top 4. We hold tournaments every Friday Night just as added information if anyone is looking for something to do in Wisconsin on Friday Nights. All of the information is on our web site.

We will definitely be making the adjustments necessary for the expected larger turnout. The tournament will most likely be 5 rounds with a top 8 playoff pairing. Prizes will be given to the top 4 players after the playoffs. When you come expect to be there possibly past midnight if you have what it takes to top 8 !

The decision has been made. This will be a 5 Proxy Type 1 Event and will not be sanctioned because of the proxies allowed. A reminder to those in the area: We hold Type 1 Tournaments every Friday and hold one Sanctioned Type 1 Event each month. More Information can be found on our website.

All the details have been finalized. This will be a 5 Proxy Tournament with 5 rounds of Swiss. There will be a top 8 playoff with prizes for the top 4 places. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of new people from the Wisconsin/Minnesota Area for some great Type 1 Fun.

Any thought to having power tournies on Saturday instead of Friday?   Driving is minimal on a weekend for alot of people whereas it may be hard to get there during a normal workday in time.

My thoughts exactly....also, care to have it in the morning....having it e a 3 hours drive, it's kind of a pain in the ass when the tourney ends at like past 10. Anyways, I may or may not make it. I know I@n will make it though, and hopefully he'll rep for Madison.

Future Power Tournaments will definitely be planned for Saturdays or Sundays. This originally was intended to be an area Power Tournament for our Local Players and then it was suggested to put the word out and so that's what happened. We have Type 1 tournaments every Friday Night, one of which per month is a Sanctioned Event. We'll see what is to come  Cool .

It will be a late night for me also, but it should be a great time to be had by all. Our Gaming group for this area sometimes completes the night with an Axis and Allies Game til 6 in the morning. We try to have a blast every week.

I don't think you can call Ian a Madison player.  He's an honary member of Team Showercap, after all.

I won't make it.  I have a wedding this weekend, otherwise I'd hit up the three tournaments (Eau Claire for a Mox, Burnsville for a Lotus and Minneapolis for another piece of power) this weekend.

I think Joel will probabally go.  Nick will probabally be there too.  Joel will win it anyway, in my absence, using ultra Team Showercap tech.

Good luck, and I hope you have a tremendous turnout.

By the way, the time of day is a little inconvienent.  If you could make your big tournaments the first saturday of the month, for example, your turnout would be huge.  Maybe you could get the Madison and Milwaukee guys to come up and get beaten by all of us Dreamer's regulars.  I'd probabally be easier if it was on a Saturday or even Sunday.  I know it would make a huge difference for me.

Again, best of luck to all.

The day began at 5:30pm when Type 1 players from all over Wisconsin and even some from Minnesota began showing up to register for the tournament. In all there were 36 players. All through the store heated Magic Players were going at it with the ferocity only seen when Power is up for grabs. Luckily, half-way through the tournament some guy with an Ice Cream Cart rolled on down the street and half the attendies took advantage of him.

After 7 1/2 hours of grueling Type 1 goodness the Mox Ruby ended up in the hands of Gregg Seaverson from Milwaukee, WI. The NM English Legends Mirror Universe went to Luke Ojala from Brainerd, MN. Here are the top 8 decks for this evening's tournament.

Do you have the pairings for the top 8? I'm curious to see who played what, and who lost to what.
